I did an update on my post yesterday to show how we hung the ‘fish plates’ on the wall…HERE.
I reached for a book on my coffee table to provide a dark background and then asked if anyone recognized the book.
The book is vintage….I got it from a library book sale a couple of weeks ago and probably most of you have seen the movie (if you are anywhere near my age! lol) and one of the characters is Moondoggie!
It was a surprise to me to find out it WAS a book first and from the reviews I’ve read, it sounds like a fun summer read.
Do you remember the first movie with Sandra Dee? Oh how I loved it and all of the others, too!
Gidget by Frederick Kohner, written in 1957.
Have you read it or watched any of the Gidget movies?

I didn't even know there was a book. I have seen one of the movies it was a long time ago.
Great find! And I love the fact that the hardbound comes in color blue ;)
PS I love your quilted cloth in the background hehe
Yes I used to watch it...didn't they always show it in the summer time? The book is really pretty.
I haven't thought about Gidget and Moondoggie in a long time. I think I might need to share that series with Emma.
I loved the Gidget movies when I was a kid. I think that's part of the reason I've always loved the beach so much. Your book looks to be in great condition.
Oh how I wanted to be Gidget...or at least have her life. To be blond with blue eyes and go places. Not a red-headed freckled faced girl, who was not allow out of the yard. xoxo,Susie
No to both questions, but I did love Tammy movies. Are they from the same genre?
Hi Diane!
Oh...Yes! I loved watching all the sweet and wholesome teen idol movies. Gidget was one of my favorites. What a wonderful time in our lives to remember, my friend.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment on my blog.
Have a happy day, my sweet friend.
Blessings,
Carolynn xoxo
I also didn't know it was a book! Fun find. Enjoy reading. :-)
I do remember those movies, and did not know they were a book first. I shared a new(used)baby doll on my blog today...thought you might like to take a peek :) Blessings
I didn't know there was a book first either! Oh my, I LOVED Gidget and wanted to be her and I could go on and on! Now I want to find that book and see the movie again. Well so much for the 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' guess..LOL!
hugs,
Linda
Oh yes,, Gidget was a big thing
when I was a girl...
You spoke of how our bathrooms
look so much alike.. I planned
on taking down that huge mirror
and called a glass cutter to
come cut it and remove it.. I
was afraid of it.. he wanted
$250 to come cut it for me..haha
It will stay a big longer.
Thanks for your visit
Sandy
I remember watching those movies and wanting to hang out with Gidget and her friends at the beach but I don't remember if I read the book. My first thought when I saw the book cover yesterday was Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Missed that one. :0)
I saw the movie years ago on tv, but I LOVED the tv show with Sally Field. As soon as I read Moondoggie, I knew it was Gidget. No way to tell from the book cover, I was thinking Old Man and the Sea because of the sea gulls lol xo
Good Afternoon Diane, Oh dear, I must be the only one of your friends who does not know about the film Gidget or the book Gidget, but I can see it was very popular. Oh but I do know who Sandra Dee is, as I remember the song from the film Grease, "Look at me I'm Sandra Dee".
I will have to look on the internet to see what I can find out.
Best wishes
Daphne
I remember the movie and loved it, but I had no idea there was a book! How fun!
Great find :)
Xxx
How interesting that it was a book before it became a movie!
How cute, I didn't Gidget was a book first!
Gidget, OMG, I do remember her, I think I saw some of the movies...Ah the good old days!
Carol
I think I saw all the Gidget movies but never read the books. Fun find- xo Diana
I have not read the books, but I've seen the movies.
hugs,
Cindy
Oh yes, I remember Gidget movies. I am glad you like the postcard I sent you. I got mine yesterday, and love it also. Thank you so much Diane :)
I love the Gidget movies, and no, I didn't know there was a book. You will have a fun summer read :)
Hugs,
Laura
