I love to sew and decided to try embroidery again after all these years.
I visited Prairie Patchwork Quilts and saw her precious pillowcase doll HERE and found the kits on sale on Amazon.
I’m starting with a regular pillowcase to see if I remember the basic stitches.
But if all else fails, there are videos galore to view online. Keep your IPAD handy!
I’ll try the pillowcase doll next.
Some of these old transfers were my Grandmother’s. She could sew, crochet and quilt better than anyone I’ve ever known. I hope just a little bit of her talent was passed on to me.
When I went to the thrift store last time, I found this sweet little doll.

As a child and even later, I did a lot embrodry. Then cross stitch. Then crochet. You will have a good time and it is relaxing. There are so many great tutorials on Youtube. Be sure to share your work with us. And you can find transferes at Hobby Lobby, too.
oh I think more than a " little" wore off on you!! You do beautiful work! Love the new little doll, she must have been the inspiration for sure with her embroidery hoop!!!
You probably remember more than you think. And, yes, isn't the internet handy?? I bet your grandmother would be proud of all your sewing projects!
I used to do embroidery as a young girl as well...those vintage patterns really spark sweet memories of my mom too as I can recall her sitting and stitching away. Year later I did some cross-stitch and even tried my hand at crewel. And what was the one called where the design was made my creating french knots? I seem to have forgotten. Can wait to see the little pillow case doll! :)
My 85 year old Mother still embroiders pillow cases. I told her I would bring her some pillowcases when I visit this weekend. Off to TJ Maxx to purchase some!

I love to embroider too! And Aunt Martha's patterns are sold in Walmart in the craft section if you are looking for many different kinds. Just iron them on. Happy Spring!

How wonderful that you are embroidering again. I can do the basic stitch, but that is about all. I must confess that embroidery is not my favorite... I truly admire you and your talent, dear Diane.

Your embroidery is very nice, Diane. wow, your mother could sew and embroider and crochet! My sister can knit and crochet and sew also. I've always thought it was such a talent.

Reminds me of some tea towels I got out to dry dishes this past Easter Sunday, with all the little embroidered corners.

How precious is the pillowcase doll? I love the old vintage embroidery patterns and it looks like you have a ton of them. No one in my family did needlework except my aunt did crochet afghans and sewed. My Mother was a career woman and so was I so there was little time for it. But now I am teaching myself all kinds of things and it is fun! I love the little girl you got at the thrift store!
I love to embroider. Those old patterns are real jewels!

I used to LOVE to embroider. I haven't done any of it in a long time. Do you know Shirley over at Shirley Stitches? She does the most fantastic embroidery and she is FAST at it. Amazing woman.

I learned to embroider when I was 7, and it is still one of my favorites - so relaxing. I like seeing each stitch build the design. How wonderful that you have your grandmother's transfers, and that little stitching doll is just too cute. Happy stitching my friend.

Those old embroidery transfers are so sweet. I have some of them too. Embroidery is a wonderful project for on-the-go or just to pick up and do in the evenings. Looking forward to seeing the results of your efforts.

I did all kinds of handwork when I was younger and I loved it but got away from it for some reason. I've been eyeing cross stitch again. I will have eye surgery this summer and I am hoping that I'll be able to see those little holes again and take it back up.

Cute little doll and yes you inheirited alot of your grandmother's talent. I embroider off and on...just something simple and just the back stitch for the most part. Once I get the threads separated it is so relaxing! :)
