One Horse and One Good Fence!

We stopped by Ross Prairie on our way home from another hike just to see if there were any horses there. They have a nice big grassy area to park and unload right next to our parking lot.

This lady was nice enough to talk to us and tell us all about her horse.

It was a young horse and very playful! He kept trying to put his foot in the water barrel!

DSCN0825

Have you ever owned a horse?

It would be a lot of work but very rewarding!

I’m joining Good Fences today!

I spent time around horses as a kid and always wanted one, but my life went in other directions. They are such magnificent creatures. (can be stubborn as all get out, though)

I was once in conversation about a favorite animal. Most said cat, dog. Me? I said horse and everyone looked at me as if I were nuts. Still today I would choose horse. Yes they are expensive to feed and require a lot of care, but they are grand creatures. You had good day!

Never much of a horse person. They are amazing animals though. I have ridden a few times but honestly was scared and didn't the horse know it!! Hugs!

Yup, I had a horse and our daughters had a horse...then our daughter went on to Hunter Jumpers....
Expensive and scary!
I am glad these days not to have horses...
However, for my birthday I got to drive a cart with a mini horse pulling it...that was fun....

Diane, When I was a kid every kid wanted a horse...now they want electronics. LOL. Ted's family owned a horse and it would run under the apple tree and knock the kids off it's back. LOL. That is a pretty horse. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

What a beautiful horse! When I was a kid, our neighbors behind us had horses and my sisters and I loved them. One day we were riding in the field next to our house and horse got spooked, sideswiped a tree and I fell off. The neighbor girls all ran after the horse, leaving me lying there on the ground! Can you believe that?? After I got over that experience, we continued to go horseback riding every now and then. I was surprised to see a link to Good Fences...I didn't realize someone took it over. I sent Tex an email the other day to tell her I missed her and she sent one back...sure do miss her, don't you??

Aren't horses such magnificent creatures. Across form our neighborhood there is Tate Farms and they raise horses! There are some mares who will be giving birth soon and I will get to see some foals.
I have always, always wanted a horse...
Happy Day!

I've had a small horse farm for the past 27 years - indeed it's a lot of work and takes real commitment. You really have to love the animal to do what we do daily - and it's a 24/7 commitment. I find the work therapeutic and rewarding and my children have learned the responsibility of taking care of something other than themselves as well. The horse is in your post is very well cared for and it looks like you've got some great riding trails in your area - what a gift to riders!

Oh wow....that would be awesome to own a horse that beautiful! How nice of her to let you take some photos. She must be very nice. I was only on a horse once as a child, and scared to death. I loved being a shy wall flower with my toes on the ground. =) Our daughter (as an adult) took lessons with a huge show horse and she said it scared her to death. Plucky of her to do it though and good for photos...hahah. Sending hugs and a wish for a pleasant week. Maggie Ann

Nice looking horse. I adore horses and rode a lot at stables when I was younger, but never owned a horse. I know they are a lot of work to care for.

I would have loved to own a horse when I was younger and same goes for my daughters but they are expensive to keep and take a lot of time - still they are wonderful animals and we love horse riding when we can!

Beautiful horse and she rides with an English saddle; I never sat on one of those. When I was a teenager and we lived in Tuscon AZ, I got an after school and Saturday job at a stables exercising the horses. Best job ever! It was like owning horses and getting paid to ride them, but none of the expense of boarding and feeding. Nice work if you can get it:)

What a sweet horse. I used to own a quarter horse named Ginger. She was retired as a parade horse and she was wonderful. She could prance and high-step and was just beautiful. My ex-FIL sold her for cash when I was working. A good reason for him to be an EX FIL. I was broken hearted. xo Diana

That is a very nice looking horse and a good fence. It was neat that the lady talked to you about her horse. - I've never owned a horse and only ridden one maybe a few times in my lifetime. I'm rather afraid of horses but think they are beautiful animals.

I have always wanted to have a horse!!! I grew up in the suburbs, and my parents were not horse people. When my girls were young I took riding lessons with them and loved it - but then we moved... sigh... this horse is beautiful! I love that he's so playful!

No--I've never been around horses much at all. In fact the only time I got ON a horse was at a park when I was in high school. I do like them though ---and enjoy reading other's experiences with horses...

This horse is a beauty! Every year we go to the fair just to watch the horses in the horse shows, horse races, and pony pulls. They bring in the big draft horses in semi-truck and trailers every night from neighboring Indiana. These horses cost around $60,000 a piece so they are very protective of them. They are beautiful animals. When I stand beside them, I feel as small as an ant.

On Face Book I shared a video of a horse that would not go into the creek. After he was coaxed into the water, he kept splashing and playing in it. It was so cute!

Horses are beautiful animals and that young horse is really good lookin

We had a horse when we lived in Kentucky, my oldest daughter loved to ride and loved horses. The horse bit her on the back of her upper leg and it was a horrible ordeal.
I was so mad I went in the house to get the rifle to shoot the horse and my husband screamed NO DON"T SHOOT IT,its to hard to move a dead horse. He moved it off our property that day.
That was our last horse LOL
Everytime I read where you went for a walk I think I should be out walking also

Hi,
My aunt Sally had a riding stable for many years. It was called Enchanted Oaks Riding Stable. It was located in Central Wisconsin.
As always, great photos.

Hi Diane, what a beautiful horse. So nice the owner was happy to share and talk to you. I bet it was fun to see the horse being playful. The weather looks to be gorgeous and that blue sky is amazing. Thanks for stopping by and your kind comment. So nice to be back and working hard to catch up.
Have a nice weekend sweet friend. xoxo

Where I grew up we were surrounded by farms and luckily a riding stable where I spent a lot of time as a teenager. They had two gorgeous palominos named Bonnie and Clyde but they were too feisty for me. I didn't want a horse of my own as I was happy to pay the money to ride an hour or two each week.

I always wanted a horse. Not too practical in Chicago tho. LOL. Have a good weekend. xo

I think horses may be my favorite animal, Diane. This one is very pretty, and I've never seen a brown horse with a white tail, how striking. Oooo, his back side and legs are white too, how interesting. When I see a horse, I just want to get on it and ride away hehehe.

The horse looks like a great riding buddy. I used to have a horse, Scamp! She was Quarterhorse/Appaloosa and a really gentle soul. Her colour was "strawberry roan" ... doesn't that sound nice? My sister and I would take her on all-day trail rides along the Bruce Trail here ... lots of high look-outs and rocks and trees. She was a great trail horse and we would share the riding. Even our dog Emily would trot along with us all day long. Scamp also liked to sneak up to the door leading off our living room and listen to me play the piano through the open door in the summertime. I don't think I will ever know a horse quite like her. My daughter took up riding when she was about 8 years old, and has taken lessons ever since then. Now that she has to pay for them herself, the lessons stopped (?!). I hope she'll get a horse of her own one day as she really loves them too...plus she has all the equipment sitting in bins in the garage ha ha!

I only rode a horse once - when I was 16. It decided to lie down on a hillside next to the road - with my leg caught between the horse and the hillside - and that was enough for me. I do adore seeing horses - and my dream is to see wild horses running free sometime in my life. Happy trails sweet friend.
