When Barbie dolls were introduced in 1959, I was a little girl that loved dolls! (link HERE) I remember getting some of the very first Barbie dolls and going straight to the Barbie clothes at the Dime Store to see what new outfits were there. My Aunt Wilma made Barbie doll clothes and I had quite a few of those too. I don't have dolls from my childhood but as all of you know...I have dolls! heehee! And I hit the jackpot last week when I made a quick stop at the Hospice Thrift Store.
I bought 2 Barbie Doll cases! No dolls or clothes but I'll be happy with these for now!
I have a few reproduction Barbies and of course I'll keep a look out for vintage finds.
I even called the Thrift store the next day and told the manager Jeff how pleased I was to have them! (and casually asked if they found any dolls or other Barbie things after I left. It doesn't hurt to ask! heehee)
Do you remember Midge (link HERE)
or Skipper? (link HERE)
I've had fun doing a little research since I bought these cases!
Don't forget to take time to PLAY!!!
I thought this would be fun for Wednesday Wee Ones
and I’m joining Thankful Thursdays.

Oh, you are killing me. I love them. I had a black one with the red headed Barbie on it. I know it was early to mid sixties make. I just threw it out about a year ago. It was NOT in vintage shape. I had played with and then my daughter had played with it until it was in horrible shape. I almost was not able to throw it out even though it was broken. I was a Barbie lover. I still have some of my old dolls though none of them are in great shape. Lots of play time. I have a P.J. and a Malibu Barbie. I had the red headed one, but lost it along the way. I have tons of 1960's Barbie clothes. There was a Western Auto in Monroeville, Alabama that sold clothes. I always loved to go in there and pick out an outfit. I actually have several of those framed.
GREAT FINDS.
What a find!!
I had the original Barbie in her black and white striped one piece swimsuit. Also the blue Barbie case, the dream car and the Barbie house. Also Ken, Midge and Skipper. Let's just say my Grandma spoiled me. :-) Sure wish I would have kept all of that.
I still have my original Barbie and clothes and case. I have so many clothes for Barbie but almost none for Ken. I really should pull them out from the back of the closet, just to relive my childhood. Have a lovely day.
What fabulous finds! I was too old for Barbie, but my little sister had one of the first. I don't know what ever happened her Barbie and I don't know if she ever really played with it. But Step grandma did crochet clothes for the dolls; in fact, I think that she was one who bought the dolls for the little granddaughters, too. I am always trolling the thrift store for really nice or unusual Barbies as it doesn't not seem that the newer ones are as nice.
Oh I remember those cases Diane. One of my friends had that black one and I so wanted one too!! Congrats on the great find.
What a fabulous find, Diane! I had one of the original Barbie's too...the one with the pony tail and wearing the black and white striped bathing suit. I still have her although most of her hair has fallen out...lol! Too much combing and styling, I guess! I also have the rectangular case like the round black on you have. I remember making outfits for her out of the smallest scraps from my Mom's stash of fabrics. Such fun memories and yes, I do remember Midge! :)
Hello, my sister and I had a few Barbie dolls. My mother used to love making clothes for the dolls. I remember those cases too. You never know what you will find in the Thrift stores. Happy Wednesday, enjoy your day!
Oh my, what darling cases! The black one is simply delightful :)
Have a wonderdul day. Hugs!
I loved by Barbie dolls! I had some store bought clothes but mostly my Mom made clothes for Barbie. Sara has these now (I hope). If she doesn't want them I'll send them to you! Hugs!
I've been asked whether I was named Ken because my mother played with Barbie dolls. Sorry-- I was 2 generations too early for that! Maybe my youngest sister and certainly my granddaughters did have Barbie dolls. (By the way, I also antedate the "other" Kenneth Cole-- he is the "knockoff" of my brand, not the other way around!)
I remember them all so very well. But, being the oldest of four girls by the time the Barbies got thru all four, they are pretty much worn out. LOL
Good finds,
Judy
Great finds. I still have Barbies oacked away downstairs that our girls had. The granddaughters aren't interested in them at all
Oh I LOVED Barbie and would have snatched these wonderful cases up too. A great find! Have a wonderful week filled with sunshine.
Oh what wonderful fun - these are just the things my girls loved when they played Barbies. I used to make them baskets full of clothes for their Barbies - I even knit tiny sweaters on double pointed toothpicks - and they still have the Barbies and clothes. They had Midge and Skipper too - and lots of fun times. What a treasure you've found, my dear. Enjoy your fun!!!!
I loved Barbie and remember these cases. My mom's friend made the BEST doll clothes for my doll when I was young. Have fun - great find!
I've never had any of these dolls but it does look like fun.

I remember Barbie and Midge and Skipper, Diane. I did not collect them though. My sister-in-law still has all of her's. You found some great things. Enjoy them! ♥
I saw your Barbie doll post on my side bar, and came right over to see! Wow, what a great find, Diane! I am a Barbie doll lover, and I used to have my Barbie case from childhood, but I left it at the house when we moved, and felt terrible about that. I really like this black case. That totally looks like the original style. I didn't realize they came out in 1959. What a nice aunt to make you clothes for your Barbie. Oh Yes, I remember Skipper, as my sister had Skipper, and I still have my Barbie today. : ) This case was meant just for you, Diane. Enjoy!
love, ~Sheri
Diane, I don't think I remember Midge but I do remember Stacey. Love the Barbie cases!
I was probably 8 or 9 when I got my first Barbie...maybe a bit older. Along about 1963-4-5. My mom would make clothes for them. I either had skipper or midge, along with Barbie, but I don't remember which.
Loved my Barbies.....LOVED, LOVED, LOVED them. We really could not afford for me to have store bought clothes for my dolls and I felt so wronged. But you know, I was not cause like your aunt, my mom made all mine. I had a hard case suitcase full of handmade clothes that my friends just made over! Thanks for sharing.
Oh what a thrift store dream! You scored big girlfriend! You know I love your dolls!
xoxo

How fun, I love the black case! Would be neat to see the inside, I'm guessing there's a spot for two dolls? Have a great day:@)
Que bonitos!!! me encanta ese aire retro....
My daughters had Barbies. (they came along after my doll days). Ever who invented Barbie really had an idea that all little girls loved. Gee, I hope they got royalties for every Barbie sold. Now, that would be a pile of money!
I loved my Barbies! What fun nostalgia to find such a great treasure! I love it!
Diane, I bought my two little sisters a Barbie with my baby sitting money. I was not into dolls...probably lipstick then..well it was the sixties..My own daughters had Barbies, Midge, Skipper..I don't recall if they had a case. But oh my goodness I made plenty of doll clothes. We did live in simpler times. I long for those good old days. :) Blessings , xoxo, Susie
I loved Barbies, and my daughters did as well. I still have a very old (early 1960s) Barbie and Midge. I also had Skipper - and later, my favorite was Francie. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Great finds ...
All the best Jan
I love this! I had many Barbies growing up and spent much time playing with them. I gave away my Barbies/clothes/cases when I got too old to play with them. I wish I had kept them! LOVE these cases. What a great find. Thanks for linking up today and have a great weekend!
OMG I had both of these bags. I had forgotten all about them until I saw your photos! I was more of a skipper fan but did play with Barbies. A blast from the past!

Not a doll person at all so although I remember the names I never owned any. I did have a Madame Alexander doll when I was really young but I'm sure it didn't last long....everyone soon realized I was not a doll person. I liked trains but I never got one! Still working on that! LOL!
I bet those would fetch a good price on Ebay!
What neat finds! I love going to thrift stores. I used to love playing with Barbies when I was little still have some stored away and my girls liked to play with them too, but they have a pretty good collection of their own too. :-) They both like American Girl dolls too, though my oldest has packed hers away. I always liked the history/stories with those. Have a wonderful weekend!
Blessings,
Jill
I had one of the black Barbie cases, but I think it was just for Barbie. My poor Barbie (the one with the black and white striped bathing suit) got a lot of use and her gorgeous blonde pony tail was in pretty bad shape the last time I looked. I actually bought a set of wigs for her!
My sister had Skipper and possibly Midge also. Do you remember Jill dolls and Ginny dolls? I had a Jill but no Ginnys.
