Bits 'N Pieces Puppet Theatre comes to Freedom Library

I was so excited to be at the Freedom Library (the branch of Marion County Public Libraries) last week to see 'Rumpelstiltskin' performed by the extremely talented Jerry Bickel, the founder of the Bits 'N Pieces Puppet Theatre.

He really made the puppets come alive with the music and voices he used for each one. I wish I could tell you how cute the dog was and how funny he did the voice of the baby.

The dog was my favorite...I think!

So much detail in every doll!

And lots of action!

Everyone enjoyed it!

He took his time after the show to talk about the beautiful dolls they use and explained about the process of putting on a show.

Then he met the kids and gave each of them a little kit to make some puppets at home. (Oh, and he gave me one too!  I think I was the only adult there without a child.)

But you know fairy tales aren't just for children!
He even said that in his introduction!

Thanks to the Friends of the Library for bringing this fabulous show to our library. And a special thanks to Jerry Bickel! Hope you'll come back soon. We would LOVE to see the giant puppets you've created!

I'm thankful to live close to such a wonderful public library so.... I’m joining Thankful Thursdays.

Diane, You'll have to show us your puppet. :):) I hope the children went home and assembled theirs. That was so good of Mr. Bickel to give kits out. That will help the children talk about the puppet show. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

Libraries have so much to offer. When my sister was raising her children the library in her town let you check out paintings. She had a wall in her home where the art changed every two weeks. gave both of her kids an appreation for art.
I would have enjoyed that puppet show!

How fun to see such an entertaining show! I can imagine it was absolutely enthralling with Jerry's skill of bringing each character to life with his voice and actions. It is a huge skill to be able to do such a thing! And definitely such fun shouldn't be just for children, not at all :)

What a wonderful thing you were able to see at your library. I bet there was as much wonder on the adults' faces as the children. How fun for him to give everyone a puppet kit! You do the best things!

You've got a very good selection of photo's here.
Puppets and puppet shows are wonderful, and everyone seems to enjoy them so much.

Local/public libraries are such an important part of a community.

All the best Jan

I took puppetry classes in college but never got so far as marionettes. This is a delightful post -- what a treat to enjoy this!

Libraries are lovely places!! I could live in one! However, I was a volunteer once upon a time and found that I was very good at doing the book covers. It was not very much fun since I was stick in a room all by myself. That volunteer work didn't last too long.
I will be watching for your puppet to make its grand debut!!

So interesting, Diane! For some reason, I get a little nervous around marionette puppets. I even don't like to watch The Lonely Goatherd part of the Sound of Music. Yikes!

I bet all the children loved the show. Seeing it is so much better than hearing a story. It was nice of him to give the children kits to make their on puppet. Have a great weekend and thank you for your prayers for me. The surgery went well.

That sounds absolutely wonderful! I wonder if he has anything on you tube. Hope you are having a great summer...bet you are! It is warm and muggy here in our part of Pa. One morning I woke up and looked out the front window to see what I thought was a dog on our porch. Turned out to be a very brazen ground hog! The bunnies have near ruined our flowers and its so dry...I think thats why things aren't doing well too. blessings to you!

I love that you went on your own -- fairy tales and dolls are definitely not just for children -- have you made the puppet from the kit yet? Can't wait to see it. I adore libraries both here (we're home in Oregon now) and in Fort Myers and they are high on my thankful list too.

This puppet show is such a treat to see. I didn't know the libraries did this. I would have loved to seen those sweet puppets and their costumes. This is something that both children and adults would enjoy. You're right, fairy tales are not just for children. ; )
