Yes, you read that right!
Straight from my 'Southern roots' we have fried okry!
I'm sure there are healthier ways to cook okra but there's no better taste than the early crop of okra, cut in small rounds, rinsed and shaken in a bag filled with a mixture of yellow corn meal and white flour...with salt and pepper. And then fried in canola oil until crispy. (and eaten with your fingers! hahahaha)
I couldn't believe it when I found it at the Farmer's Market last week. The first Florida crop of tender okra.
The tomatoes have been amazing. I made BLTs this week and had a glass of iced tea in a vintage glass.
I even found Swiss Chard which is one of our favorites. You cook Swiss Chard just like Spinach in a very small amount of boiling water just a couple of minutes. (no pics...we ate it)
Corn on the cob is delicious and I cut it off the cob one day just for the fun of it!
I’m joining Mosaic Monday HERE
and the 100th Cooking and Crafting with J & J HERE !
What are you looking forward to finding 'in season' this week?

Hello, I never tried okry! I do love BLT's or tomato sandwiches. I am looking forward to some sweet corn on the cob. YUM!
Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!
Okra is not something I see in the supermarche here in France although I think you can get it in the UK where it's known as ladies fingers I believe!
I have all the ingredients in my fridge for a roasted vegetable terrine that I had planned to make today but time is running away from me so it will have to wait until tomorrow.
Bon Appétit
I don't know if I've had okra -- maybe in gumbo or jambalaya. But I am an expert on BLTs, although I usually swap the L for a B -- BBT (Bacon, basil and tomato sandwich!) Yum. And possibly on today's menu!
Fried Okry and Creamed Corn along with a slice of tomato is just about heaven.
You are making me so hungry! Fried okra is one of my favorites and I bet it's been 25 years since I had some!
I can't say as how I've developed a taste for okra, being a west coast girl we just were never exposed to it, though one time we met a lady who made quarts of soup and canned it, and one of the ingredients in it was okra. It was absolutely the most delicious soup I'd ever eaten - I've never been able to reproduce it completely - but I can remember it well. All your fresh food looks wonderful. We will soon be getting fresh vegetables and fruit from the local farmers - I look forward to it. Have a wonderful, happy week ahead my dear.
You really got me excited! Okry! Yes, you can still hear people call it that in Texas! We are growing our own this year and fried is the only way I like it! Ruth Ann says you can prepare just as you wrote and then freeze it in bags! Then just fry it up as needed! That's what we plan to go once the plants start producing. So far we have just a few little pods on them and Louis Dean thinks they will be too tough to eat. Okra likes hot weather he says and then they start shooting up and produce like crazy! I'm looking forward to it!
Not a fan of okra, but this post is amusing as I had it Saturday night. It was actually marinated and served like you would dill pickles. I liked it!
I've never had okry, Diane. Oh my gosh, I love that vintage glass. It reminds me of one that I've seen growing up, maybe at an aunt's house or neighbors. I bet you enjoy your time at the farmer's market and get lots of goodies. Your BLT sandwich sure looks good. And I just had corn on the cob last night hehehe.
A happy week to you, Diane.
love, ~Sheri
Hi Diane,
I never had okra before and I'm sure it is just delicious fried up! I will have to look for this at the farmers market.
Thanks for joining in our 100th link up at Cooking and Crafting with J & J!
Enjoy the week.

I love fried okra. Thanks for posting how you make it. Mine never turns out good but I don't think I make it right.
Glad you had a feast of your favorites. There is nothing in season here. Our farmers have not been able to plant because it is so wet so if we ever have anything in season, it'll be a miracle.
Fried okra is one of my favorites! My mother would fry up okra fresh from her garden. Yum! Fresh corn on the cob too. What pleasant memories you have given me this morning.
Fried Okra is a favorite of mine! Tomato sandwiches rock in the summer. So good and fresh corn, now I'm hungry!!
YUM YUM YUM.... My 'southern-ness' is coming out... I love Fried Okry!!!!! ha..... Fixed just the way you did it for sure is delicious... Probably not the healthiest veggie --but OH--so good...
I also love corn-on-the-cob... Summer veggies are so GOOD....
Hugs,
Betsy
Diane, It sounds like you are enjoying some home cooking. :):) I have a seasoning called spicy lime for corn on cob...oh my goodness it is delicious. I am ready for fresh tomatoes. There's nothing as good as fresh. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
I love fried okra--I even grew the plant up in New York when I lived there years ago--enjoy-
enjoy the moments, di
Yay for summer -- I love fried okra, but have never tried cooking it. (Learned to love it on our travels, didn't grow up with it in the Pacific Northwest).Love Swiss Chard and used to grow it in our garden (in Oregon, our previous life). It grows so well and so fast there ... the garden was outside the window to the boys' bedrooms and our son once said (joking I think) that he was afraid that the Chard would come into the window and smother him one day. I swear you could pick the row and watch it grow back before you got to the end. Good thing we all loved it.
I giggled when I saw the title of your post ... I do love fried "okry" and the fresher the better. B,L,T -- the taste of summer! Yum! Happy Monday!
I love it all--although I have never had any Okra before--must try on your say so. We grow mostly Tomatoes, peppers, onions and Garlic and lots and lots of flowers.
Your images are wonderful.

Now you're cookin'! We love fried okra! Cooked exactly the way you do, except later on in the summer I chop up a green tomato and mix in with the okra. And we have several summer meals with no meat, just the fried okra, fresh corn and tomatoes, and watermelon for dessert.
Okra is not my favorite, but I'm glad you were able to enjoy it. Now, your BLT would definitely be a favorite! Add corn on or off the cob and I'm happy. I can't wait for our local farmer's fresh produce to be available. Fresh tomatoes would be my favorite! Enjoy your fresh produce, my friend. ♥
That is what I grew up hearing it called and nothing better than fried!!!
I've been in Florida for almost 28 years but I have not acquired a taste for okra. I just can't eat it. BUT, I sure do love fresh tomatoes and we have been enjoying corn on the cob for a few weeks now. Yummy!!
I love okra!! We do not have the opportunity to have it often. Send some North! LOL ;-)
We had our first lettuce of the season this past Friday. Yummy!
I love BLT's and we will be eating a lot of them once our tomatoes come along. I just planted them a few days ago so they are just little things yet. We can't plant them till June 1.
Okra is not something that I had growing up. I do enjoy BLT's! Looks like you scored at your farmer's market! I'm looking forward to nectarines and plums!
Oh, my! You are talking about manna from heaven! Love fresh okra...and love it fried. we like it fried till it is amost burnt!
And have you ever tasted pickled okra? I found a little jar at the store one time and it is very edible...but not near as good as fried okra.
I love okra when it is prepared right, and it certainly looks like you know what you are doing! I am also a big fan of Swiss Chard with a touch of butter. Salivating now ....
We just love going to farmer's markets. There is just something about all of the beautiful colors, let alone the yumminess of the fresh produce! And I love me some fried "okry" too! Aaron grows some in his garden every year. Have a blessed week, Diane...hugs!
Looks delicious, Diane. I don't think I've ever had okra before. xo
Even though I'm a Yankee...lol....I like okra! I like it fried or added to stews and gumbos. We also love swiss chard. I saute it with onions and peppers and then add cooked sliced potatoes at the end--so good!
I like okra cut up and grilled on the George Foreman grill with a steak!
I love okra in Gumbo but have never tried it fried... Thinking I might just have to:@)
I'll pass on the okra! LOL! But the rest looks and sounds wonderful!
Cherries and asparagus are what I hope to find. Okra reminds me of my husband, who was from the South and a fabulous cook. I would have no idea how to make it, so thanks for the tip.
Well I love fresh corn & tomatoes but I won't eat Okra. I bought some once and made my daughter try it because it looked (slimy) to me and she didn't like it either. Perhaps I cooked it wrong but I just can't bring myself to try eating Okra.
I must admit I prefer my corn off the cob, Okra is something new to me.
All the best Gordon.
I had okra once, many many years ago while traveling through the southern USA. I can't say I enjoyed it - it was soggy and slimy - but I'd try it again if it were fried and crispy!
These days, we're enjoying lettuce, radishes, asparagus and strawberries from our garden. Delightful and delicious!
I love to have them:)
I dearly LOVE CORN ON THE COB!! And BLT"s too!! and fried green "maters"---we have green so far to fry....no reds yet but it looks like real soon they will be turning! Y'all getting any of this rain? It's been raining here all day
I am not a fan of okra. My husband likes it though. Poor guy, I never cook it for him. He always has to go to a restaurant to get it.
Enjoy all your fresh veggies. Isn't this a great time of year to get all this good food?
I love them
Big hugs x
Your Farmer's Market is brilliant!
Such a great selection of vegetables and so pleased you found Okra.
Enjoyed your post.
All the best Jan
I've never had okra - always wanted to try it, though! BLT's are one of my faves and corn on the cob, too. Now I am hungry......haha! xx Karen
always glad to see you've stopped by on the porch! Are you liking your new haircut? And you DO NOT LOOK dorky at all in your hat! I have lots of hats and would be so glad to share if we lived near one another. I have several new ones I am so looking forward to wearing this summer. I think you would really look great in a small straw type hat like the one in my sidebar, the one with the white bow. Its simple and matches everything, I reach for it again and again.
I've never had fried Okry, but since it has salt on it, I would like it! All your fresh produce looks wonderful! All of our is still being shipped in so not so fresh. Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing this recipe at our Cooking and Crafting with J & J and I featured it!!
