I saw a tiny bird in our front lawn (pics at the end of this post) and grabbed the camera. Of course by the time I got out front, it had flown to the back. So through the house, and out the back door I went just in time to see a 'bird fight'!!!
Five or six Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers were flying in and out of the trees out back, going up and down the tree trunks...faster than I could aim my camera.
AND THEN....two of them came crashing down onto the golf cart path....
feathers flying!!!
What I captured on their way down!
I think this one stayed 'down' awhile!
I've never seen anything like it. But it seems that 2 males were not part of this happy family and one was determined to be dominate.
It was loud and crazy!
So what happened to the tiny bird I was looking for? I saw him the next day.
It's a Palm Warbler and they have been regulars this week!
Have you seen anything out of the ordinary this week?
I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE
and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Nature is fun too watch. You are quite good with your camera.
Wow...bird fight!!:)
Hello, cool capture of the bird fight. They do not want to share their territory or woman. Great series and sequence of Sapsucker photos. The Warbler is pretty. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
wow.. capturing those feathers in flight was amazing!
That is a great series!
Such interesting pics of the fight. I bet you were excited to capture it. Have a great weekend.
Interesting pics you captured of the sapsuckers fighting. I bet you were excited to get those pics. Have a great weekend.
You do get the best photos of nature. I saw a really pretty butterfly earlier this week!
Diane, We have those sapsuckers here too. Woodpecker are very vocal. Every time a group of sparrows get into it....I tell Ted it's bird gangs and they can't get along. Glad you caught the warbler . Plus those unusual bird fight shots. Blessings for a fun weekend, xoxo, Susie
Wowee - that is amazing. Love the little bird too - it seems so gentle and quiet after the bird battle. Great captures. I was photographing a Flicker on the deck and just when I snapped the picture another Flicker had flown in - it was a great surprise picture of two. Happy weekend my dear.
I thought "yellow-bellied sap suckers" were from a made-up cartoon bird!
You mean they are a real actual bird????
My goodness, we learn something every day, don't we?
Thanks for the knowledge. I am so surprised, haha.
Hugs.
Good to keep that camera handy. Nice shots.
Cool capture of the Yellow bellied Sapsucker we have the Red bellied here. Funny huh. Sweet little bird you 'finally' captured

Oh my gosh, was that poor bird that fell to the ground ok? They are so pretty with their yellow bellies and red heads and necks. I don't see them around here. I've never seen a bird fight before, but I have seen them try to stand their ground, especially when there's food on the ground. That must have been a sight for you, Diane. Nothing out of the ordinary this week, but I did see a tree with a red bow tied to it. : )

He's a stunner. But poor thing. I've never seen one of these and the closest thing to a bird fight is the feeding frenzy out Lizzie's window. But Wow!
You had a ringside seat at that fight! Nature is not always kind, is it?
Was the bird hurt, Diane? I hope not. He is so pretty!
Wow!! those are amazing pictures! I dont think we have those here, but they have very vivid colors, they are pretty! Hope your weekend is going nice! we've got two long walks in already with the cooler temps. Been out walking, and making pictures and that's about it. Trying to think if I've seen anything unusual this week....I dont think so....just alot of halloween decorations around town.
Beautiful birds and there's always excitement and interesting events wherever you go!
Amazing photos of the bird fight!
The little Warbler is a cutie
Have a wonderful day!
Wow! Very strange behavior! Loved that yo0u caught it...what if you had been out front capturing the cute little palm warbler, and missed the whole thing! Neat that you were able to do both because the warbler flew to the back.
I bet that was a lot of fun to watch. I'd have probably been so busy watching that I'd forgot to take photos. The little Palm Warbler is cute, those tiny birds fascinate me.
Nasty thought here...got salt & pepper? Fried sapsucker. Shame on me!! Great photo action Diane! And love the warbler.
It was great visiting today and I appreciate your linking with us at I'd Rather B Birdin' this weekend.
Those birds are real action figures! I don't see many birds here but this past week as I took some letters out to the mailbox, a large group of crows came in and they were flying all above me. I scurried back into the house because I didn't want to get shot at, if you know what I mean. They may have just eaten.
Hello Diane
Were you tempted to interfere with the bird fight? It is my first reaction always. It is always a joy when a new breed of bird arrives. I met a celebrity chef in Ireland this week, does that count as something out of the ordinary?
Have a great week
Helen .
Those are amazing pictures. I have only ever seen one bird fight and that was not pretty. It is funny how even sweet little birds have a 'fight' gene!
Hope you have a great week. xo Diana
The Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers were causing quite the commotion! I love your photos. Fun post! I haven't seen anything unusual around here, but Trip went to our lake cabin yesterday and he thinks he found a fox den under our crawlspace!
What a great capture of bird behavior! Wow -- a turf war. The bird you were looking for -- the warbler -- is sweet. You really scored with your birds this week!!
Wow! Great job capturing it for us to see.

Very impressed; by the time I get to taking photos of wildlife, all I end up with is an empty shot! I have never heard of a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker - it sounds like some kind of insult - but it looks amazing. I know nothing about birds, but few of those in the UK have really colourful plumage.
Wow! I have never seen such a thing...and it is amazing that you were able to capture it.
wow, on the bird fight.
You just never know when you may need your camera!
You got, and shared, some very good shots here.
All the best Jan
