The “Glad Books”

I made a ‘quick’ stop at the library this week and came away with some wonderful old books from the lobby ‘book sales’.

DSCN1470

This was my favorite, Dora Deane. Isn’t the cover gorgeous?

DSCN1478

And I had no idea there was a whole series of Pollyanna Glad books. Did you?

DSCN1480

I love the covers and illustrations in all of these books and still find it amazing to be finding books that are printed in the 1800s and early 1900s in such good shape.

Collages

I also went to the Arts and Crafts show at the Palm Grove Auditorium this weekend.

Can you find me in the pics?

I bought a copper chain and two beautiful silver rings, made in Thailand. The lady that had them for sale actually visited Thailand and brought them back with her. I got a little quilted eyeglass case from the ladies at the quilt club.

And hubby surprised me with 2 of the sweetest little clip on charms. I didn’t even know that he had bought anything! One has ‘diamonds’ and a little heart and the other a flip flop with a tiny dolphin.

Did you have a good weekend too?

I’m joining Mosaic Monday HERE .

Those old books are wonderful. I am still holding on to a few I can't bear to let go. I didn't know there was a Pollyanna series either!!!!

I love your new treasures....especially the books, what beauties! I didn't know there were THAT many Pollyanna books! I'm so glad you posted the rest of the titles....I'll look for them where I can. On Librivox I enjoyed an audio book read by Phile Cherezz (thats not the correct spelling of course) and I'm not sure but think Phil may have read version two of Pollyanna. It was superbly read, how I loved it. I think in version 2 Pollyanna gets hit by a vehicle but oh so so good. Have you seen the dvd version of Pollyanna from Masterpiece Theater....with Georgina Terry as Pollyanna.....very very enjoyable. Have a nice day dear friend, and yes, I spotted you in the picture pretty quickly, what fun you have!

Spotted you instantly, such a great smile is hard to miss. Love the books from the Library, so precious. The Thai jewellery is so pretty, how sweet of DH to buy the charms for your new bracelet. the flip flop is so cute & perfect for a Florida girl.
Have a wonderful week.

Don't you love craft show season? You look adorable in the crowd. :)

I love old books. The illustrations in them are so beautiful! They are treasures. Never did read the Pollyanna books. She gets kind of sneered at for being so cheerful, but it seems we could use a little more of that these days. xo Deborah

You've been a busy woman and doing well for your economy! I loved the Pollyanna movie as a kid. We'd play Pollyanna and I'd be Jane Wyman. The sale looks great and what wonderful things you found at both of them!

What a fun post - and that art shopping had to be a riot!

You look happy in that environment.

Funny those vintage books? My mom had one exactly like yours - the one that says The Young Folks Treasury. I am really not sure exactly what the estate did with the family library. I know all the books were donated somewhere - kinda wish I hadn't been so engrossed in grief to really pay attention.

You have some real treasures there, my sweet friend. Hugs.

Diane, Oh I love the hair style on the woman on the Dora Deane book cover. It must have taken a long time to really have one's hair look like that! What wonderful books and jewelry that you discovered!

Yes, I found a smiling lady right away. Glad to see such a nice photo of you. Both your husband and you look to have had a good time. I was forgetting about Pollyanna but her name soon brought me back to my childhood when savoring reading experiences. Such antique editions are treasure.

Yes I had a good weekend but not as fun as yours, I love the old books with women's faces on them. I missed my last library sale, which is good I usually can't carry all the books I want

Your sweet face was the first one I saw when I glanced at the photo. And what fun you had. I love the old books - though not considered rare books by most people, I find them so enchanting. We had a great weekend - the snow is melting and I got pictures of 14 different kinds of birds in Birch Bay. Hope your week continues to be great. Hugs dear friend. I'm going to bake cookies tomorrow - why don't you stop by.

hello my friend, I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS POST!! you know how I love the old books too, just like you. I could (and sometimes DO!) spend hours going through old books. I love to find children's and teen novels from the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and sixties as well. As usual, we "are ticking on the same tock" as I had just began a post about old books so when yours popped up I just smiled and thought how much alike sometimes we are, LOL My post isn't ready yet, maybe in a day or so. And I did so love yours!--and some of those books I"ve never heard of. I love the old illustrations and the old covers too, don't you? So old fashioned. I'm glad you liked my "once upon a time" post....I just added my own pictures to the novel excerpt, it was fun. Well sometimes I just have to pretend to put on a long swirly white dress, like you said---and pretend to dance at a big ball---to block out the horrific things going on these days. That----or play with my DOLLS!!! LOL LOL ha ha
