Great Crested Flycatcher

Do you want to see something really really cute?

cropIMG_7927

It was a rainy day and we walked by the big window in our living room and looked out into our courtyard and saw THIS!

At first glance we thought it was a baby duck!

But it’s a baby Great Crested Flycatcher.

We have little cubbies under our mailboxes and I had seen some babies a couple of weeks before.

And the adult was on the mailbox when I walked by another time.

Then I saw one in a tree keeping an eye on the nest!

But this little one just wandered into the courtyard on a rainy afternoon….

confused and slightly wet and LOST!!!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

Hello,

Wow, the poor thing does look wet. They are neat birds, you are lucky to have them nesting nearby. Great photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend! PS, thank also for the comment on my post.

Diane, I am such a softie...I hope that baby found a dry place to hide. Fly catchers are nice to have around. Enjoy your weekend. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

What a bunch of great captures. You really could create a coffee table book with your amazing photos of birds. So well done! We had two sets of Robin, one set of Blue Jay and the best surprise Oriels all nest and we got to see the babies this summer.

You know I think I saw one of those last year here. I didn't know what it was and only got a passing glance at it. Very cool!!!

Ahhhh---how cute... We don't have them in our neck-of-the-woods I don't think.

They really have made themselves a little home in and around the mailbox... CUTE!

Betsy

Oh Diane, how perfectly precious. I always notice feathered cuties popping up all around us in the most peculiar places at times. It's like a wink from heaven.
Although I won't be posting anymore (I tried but I'm just a tad tired after so many years), I will continue to visit with you here, sis. I so enjoy your adventures.
Happy Sunday.
xoxo

What a lovely bird! I've never seen it here in Northern California and don't know whether we have them here (I think not). I hope the lost looking baby found back its parents and place.

He does look quite bedraggled and miserable … glad momma/daddy were looking out for him! And impressed that you could make this identification when he was not looking his best!

Jeannie said...

SO CUTE! I don't think he was lost but was being naughty and looking for trouble while his Mom was away collecting worms.
