Til the Cows come home...

...not at all sure what that means! I should have searched for it. What if it means something important and relevant to my post? What do you think it means?

I was on my way to the Farmer's Mkt and I took the street we call 'nature trail' because we see so much when we travel that section of road.

And I happen to see the cows all in a line...

walking up the hill....

to a fresh bale of hay that was being unloaded.

Probably not what you expect to see in Florida but Central Florida has a lot of cows! And horses!

I stopped at the library pond. We named it that because....wait for it....

it's close to the library!

And there were a pair of Osprey flying over the pond.

So beautiful!

This is probably a common Grackle but it sure made for a pretty picture!

Lots to see around here in the Spring!

Are you enjoying some pretty Spring weather?

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Great shots! About a mile down the road from me there is a field with cows and we get to see baby cows a couple of times a year.

You are correct! I don’t associate cows with Florida. Alligators, yes! Cows not so much. Nice to see them, though.

Hello, I love seeing the cattle and horses. I would enjoy the nature road too. The Osprey photos are cool. Great critter post. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend. PS, thanks for visiting and leaving a comment on my blog.

I have no idea the official meaning, but to me it represented how they would stroll in each evening to be fed at my grandparents. It was clockwork.

I enjoyed your photos!
To me 'til the cows come home' means all day long, as in some job or chore that seems endless. Sometimes used as 'you could talk to her till the cows come home, but she would not change her mind'
Have a great weekend!

Living in the country (southern middle Tennessee, USA) we see the "cows come home" in the evening when they are ready to be milked. They do walk in lines following the lady in front and walking on the same worn paths. There is comfort in the daily rhythm of nature.

they follow the food and til the cows come home means they know what time it is and come to be fed or milked at the same time. I think that is what it means.

Cow do have a hierarchy. There is the herd cow, the boss and then there are the baby-sitters. My brother has cows like the ones saw--Mexican wild cow (at one time)or Corientes. When I last visited I commented on how all the babies were sleeping and a couple of heifers were watching standing with them while other cows were grazing--they were baby sitting and they take turns.

Fabulous osprey photos. Isn't the country route to market fun!

Possibly from the fact that cattle let out to pasture may be only expected to return for milking the next morning; thus, for example, a party that goes on “until the cows come home” is a very long one.

"Alternatively, the phrase may have a Scottish origin,[1] and may derive from the fact that cattle in the Highlands are put out to graze on the common where grass is plentiful. They stay out for months before scarcity of food causes them to find their way home in the autumn for feeding". you must have know i would google it!! hehehehe

i like "them there cattle" especially the last one!!

the osprey are beautiful, you captured them so well!! you name your bodies of water the same way we do. i agree, whatever that bird is in the last picture, matters not, it is beautiful!!!

We've still got some dreary spring weather but it's better than more winter! We have many osprey up here on the Northeast shoreline - love them.

I sure enjoy having cows as neighbors. : )
Looks like Debbie answered the question about the cows coming home.
I haven't seen any cows around here with horns.
Pretty picture of the library pond.

Beautiful photos of the cows and osprey. When it comes to Florida, I think of all the gators and snakes so it is nice to see some cows. :)
Enjoy your day!

Gators and snakes? I've lived here for a long time and don't see gators unless I go to a preserve and rarely see even a harmless snake. I hope I can continue to blog about Florida and give everyone a better idea of what it's like to live here.

I think your bird is a Boat-tailed Grackle not a Common Grackle.

I looked up the saying once but can't remember how it started.

I didn't expect cows to be part of the Florida landscape so I learned something new. Love the photos of the osprey.

I think most people don't know that there are huge dairy farms in FL. I always thought that Til The Cows Come Home meant a long time...mainly because when you go to get cows from the pasture it takes forever to herd them back home and into the barn. xo Diana

Love the pictures of the flying birds. I was looking at the cow picture and thinking "well there they go in a line...looks to me like they are headed in for their supper". Then I read that yep, the hay had been brought to them, LOL! Loved yesterday's post too, that picture of you on the dock is so cute! I love the beautiful colors in your waters there, the CLEAR BLUES AND GREENS. We sure dont have that here. I am always fascinated by the springs when we visit Florida, they are so amazing! AND MERCY.....SOOOOOOOOOOOOO COLD!! ha ha LOL Hope your weekend is going well. Hugs!

I think of everglades, swamps & reptiles in Florida...you sure put me "in line" on this one. Love the soaring osprey & grackle photos.
Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your post with us at I'd Rather B Birdin' this weekend.

I gather coining of this colloquial phrase isn't known. It is a long-standing expression and the earliest example if it in print comes from the late 16th century. John Eliot used it in Ortho-epia Gallica, 1593.

Having said that lo=vely set of photos, love the Osprey.

Have a good week Diane

Beautiful photos, as always! Aren't we blessed here in central Florida to have such diverse beauty all around us!

Lovely photos! When i was younger I used to collect everything to do with cows :-) Decorated my whole house with them, needless to say my tastes have changed through the years, lol. Hope you have a great week!

These days cows are not allowed to wonder into the residential areas or on the roads and if any is found, the local council will round them up and take them away. The cows will leave behind their pooh which we call land mines.

I just got caught up on your posts. I loved seeing those children books and illustrations...instant nostalgia! I always loved books and I always say my library card is the most important one in my wallet. Yes, I did know cows were in Florida having seen so many there which was a surprise, and then learning how huge the beef industry is there.
You have such beautiful trails and vistas all accompanied by such beautiful weather. I know you are enjoying every minute!

My son Atticus thinks Grackles are so funny. They nest in a tree by his bedroom window. He can hear and see the babies all Spring long. ;-)
Fun photos!! You really have a gift for photography my friend.

I've always wondered about that one too! I think it means a long time because face it, even motivated cows don't move fast!
