I've had to hike in the mornings this summer because of the heat but now we are getting some nicer temps and it's always fun to see if there's something out at different times of day.
On a morning hike this week I saw a beautiful Sharp-shinned Hawk.
He holds his body so straight!
It's usually easy to ID him, even from a distance.
And then when I went out right after 'noon' I saw the most beautiful Fox Squirrel.
It's not the one I usually see!
It was a golden color and had less black on it's head.
Let's hope the two get together!
He...or she is big and the tail looks like a fox tail!
And then I went out after dinner one evening. I had hoped to see some deer but instead I saw a Kestrel with some of the best markings I've ever seen.
He wasn't very close and I was losing the light...
but I was happy with the photos!
I've hiked extra this week and been on the computer less! I'll try to catch up this weekend!
Are you having some nice weather too?
I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE
and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Those are BIG squirrels and such a pretty color. Our squirrels at Grimmwood are more gray.
Hi Diane. First line here in a very long time. Tomorrow we will be wishing for a sunny Florida get away since a major storm is on its way, though we never know how accurate the weather forecast really is. Great photos of the hawks. We have both of those hawks here, but they are not as easily photographed. Have a great weekend.
a fox squirrel. I don't believe I've ever seen one.
...the Fox Squirrel is new to me. I can see how it gets its name.
Hello, great sighting of the Hawk and the Kestrel.. The squirrel is cute. It is great to get outdoors for the walks with nature. I enjoyed your photos.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Enjoy your day, wishing you happy weekend.
that squirrel is gorgeous! he is twice the size of our tiny tots. and so bushing and beautiful... super shots of him in the sunshine... hope the hawk doesn't eat the squirrel.
Awesome pictures!Hugs!
Your photos are amazing! I like seeing what you see on your hikes! I will be walking again (I don’t hike!) after I get my knee replaced. I miss my walks although they are no where in the same league as yours!
Oh my, the photos are wonderful. I love the squirrels, outdoors that is. I love watching them play and hunt around for food. I did not realize that there was such a thing as a fox squirrel. Very interesting. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.
Really fabulous close=ups, Diane!
A handsome fellow that hawk, but the fox squirrel freaks me out. He’s huge! 😏 Glad that you are able to get out and enjoy the days when you’d like rather than to needs go in the early morning cool times.
The weather is so nice here. Perfect for hiking, but I have been so busy I haven't had much time for it. Hopefully I will be able to get out this week. How, fun to get out at different times of the day and see new things. xo Laura
I've never seen a fox squirrel either! Love your bird pics!
Captured some wonderful photos on your walks.
Glad you were able to go when you wanted and not have to deal with the heat!
You can add me to the I never seen a fox squirrel either list. :) He/she is a beauty. The birds pics are spectacular.
Have a wonderful weekend!
And day you encounter a couple of raptors is a good day!
Wonderful pictures especially the fox squirrel. It is nice to be able to walk at something other than very early morning again.
Great hawk photos and love the squirrel too! Great shots!

the squirrel looks amazing. I can see why it is caleld foxsquirel. :) Love the hawk.
I don't think the fox squirrel was as impressed with you as we are impressed by him. He seemed to be bothered by your camera. Next time tell him to smile.

Nice that you are able to get out at different times of the day. You have seen some wonderful creatures. Love all the photos
Great photos, as always! I LOVE that fox-tail squirrel. How beautiful! Our temps are cooler but the humidity is still suffocating. Looking forward to better walking weather! I need to work my knees!
Always enjoy your bird photographs. Take good care!
Glad that you're getting out hiking at various times of day. Beautiful bird captures, and the squirrel fox's tail is amazing!
When I first read this I thought it said "a sharp SKINNED hawk" ha ha ha LOL! Oh my goodness..........I've never seen anything like those fox squirrels ever!!--they are so amazing. I had to show them to Mr. Front Porch too, we are just so intrigued by them---they look HUGE!! I dont think we have those here. Love the pictures you get of them. I'm pretty sure I'd never even heard of them until you showed them here on your blog about a year ago, maybe?
You really captured the size of that fox squirrel there Diane. And that wonderful tail. And it's always good to see birds of prey, big or small.
Your hawk & kestrel images are magnificent Diane.
Thanks for stopping by I'd Rather B Birdin and sharing your post. Your visit is appreciated!
I have had a sharp-shinned. The kestrel is amazing. I have yet to photograph one. Nicely done.
Great photos!
Wonderful long tail on the squirrel - such a beautiful creature!
Love the Hawk, too! And the gorgeous Kestrel - I've never seen one in the wild.
Have a blessed day!
Beautiful photos! I did enjoy the photos of the fox-tail squirrel! Wonderful! Have a grand week!
We had Fox Squirrels in Texas and Illinois, but never one with such face markings and extraordinarily long tail. Beautiful Sharpie and kestrel. Last winter we had essentially no kestrels. We usually have three on separate foraging territories. So far I have seen one and hope all will decide to spend the winter here. We get out early, 45 minutes before sunrise to beat the heat. This gives me almost a half hour to post on the lake and listen to the sounds of nature waking up. (We may be heading to Charlotte NC around Thanksgiving to join our daughter and husband as they go house-hunting)
A majestic looking bird and a beautiful squirrel.
cutie pies
i don't think i have ever seen a fox squirrel, it's coloring is so pretty. you captured some really fun shots, he looks exceptionally pretty with the green and blue. beautiful captures of the hawk and the kestrel, looks like it was a super good day for you!!
The hawk is amazing and I would so love to see a fox squirrel... could you send one to Ft Myers please? (But not until December, when we get there, thank you )))!)
We have grey squirrels, I've never seen a fox squirrel, it's beautiful and what a gorgeous colour.
All the best Jan
Hi, Diane. I popped in from a blog party---(one you posted an adorable doll tea party) and found your lovely blog. So, nice to see a blogger in the 'now' and not 10 weeks ahead jumping into the latest trends or holidays. I hope to enjoy your 'neck of the woods' when we are covered in cold and snow.
