Books and Dolls and Books

It's been great getting a new shelf at the right level to work on my Golden books and get them in order. I managed to spend most of a week working on this project. We hiked and did a few other interesting things too but when I close my eyes I see books! lol

I have a wooden doll house so I put it in the center of the shelf below the books...all centered up, of course! And I put just a few things in front of my books. I don't want to make it hard to access the books. I don't want to 'what not' every shelf to death. heehee! I love putting cutesy things here and there but when you have too much, it looks cluttered.

I've enjoyed your stories about the Golden books you had and the memories of reading them to your kids too.  I still have a few that were my sons but most of these I've bought for a nickel or a dime at the thrift store or library book sales.

Have you ever seen a Golden book with a dust cover? I bought one at a library book sale a few years ago. It's from the 1940s.

The cover and dust cover are identical. I don't remember ever seeing one before!

And recently I bought another one from a shop on Etsy.

Thanks to all of you that leave such sweet comments. I collected my dolls and books over many years and enjoy them all. I probably wouldn't start a collection now. But hopefully I'm preserving some things that someone else can enjoy when I'm too old to play.
TOO OLD TO PLAY???

I hope that day doesn't come any time soon!

(no dolls were harmed in the making of the Golden books shelf....really! I promise!!!)

I'm joining Angie for Mosaic Monday HERE .

I don't remember ever seeing a childs book with a dust cover. this is a first. I knew you had the dolls but did not know about all the Golden Books. I do know I picked up a golden book at Walmart a few months ago and was shocked at the price. when I bought them in the 60's they were really cheap... my boys were not interested in books, and still are not and neither was their dad or my husband now. My dad never read a book but the Bible and commentaries on the Bible. my mother and I devoured books from and early age... your collection is impressive

She’s prolly just playing and not breaking her neck. No, I have never seen a Golden Book with dust jacket. That’s pretty cool!

I have never seen a Golden book with a dust cover...pretty neat! Oh that doll house is so sweet....I had a big one when I was a little girl and I wish I still had it I do have the Fisher Price Doll House that belonged to my children. I should use it at Grimmwood as decor.

I had so many Golden Books as a child and then for my boys. Sadly I lost them in a flood a few years ago. Lots of memories of the wonderful books. Thanks for sharing.

Golden Books were my first readers. I'm very grateful that my parents bought me a Golden Book each time we visited the Five and Dime, which wasn't often. I have a small collection of books that I gathered along the way as you did. I've noticed around our home that stuffed animals and dolls have been coming out of their hidey holes. :-)

Diane - I am sure that some people would say that my house is sparse with its decorations, but I prefer to think that it is nice to actually be able to see what's on a shelf. And less to DUST! Speaking of, I have never seen a Golden Book with a dust cover - I wonder if they are worth more? And so glad no dolls were harmed with your make-over - we might have to report you to the authorities! Thanks for supporting Mosaic Monday!

Oh my, I missed this yesterday. Love what you have done with your bookshelves and Little Golden Books and beautiful dolls. I remember the prayer books for children. I am sure I had that at some point for our children. I need to send you a picture of the few little Golden books that I have. They are in sad shape I am afraid. Love your upside down doll too! So cute. And that little red wagon! Love it. I do hope we are never too old to play. What a sad day that would be.

Too old to play? Perish the thought. I dread the day when my youngest grandchild decides she is too old to play with me. xo Laura

Hi there girlfriend, how's your week coming along? Wow, your Golden books look AMAZING all up on the shelf newly arranged now, love it! Did YOU COUNT THEM??!!--HOW MANY??? Of course I love any post of yours with dolls and books. I've never seen a dust jacket on one of those either! The Golden books used to be so inexpensive, and easy to give the kids if they had behaved while grocery shopping....now they cost so much more. Like everything else i guess...(sigh). Are y'all hiking any this weekend?
