Beautiful Birds at Blue Run Park and berries at HTP!

Summertime hiking in Florida? I wouldn't recommend it!

I can't stay in the house all the time so I've gotten out some.

But the hikes are fewer and shorter and earlier!

The vegetation loves the heat and pop up showers we have in the afternoons but it makes it a challenge to get good photos.

The Black-crowned Night Heron was a good sighting though.

And this Great Blue Heron is trying to beat the heat under a tree with Spanish moss. (and you know I always imagine what my critters are saying)

You know if you climb up here you'll sink us.

See what I mean.....your end is already sinking!

Hmmmph!!!

Are you still here?

The Rainbow River is very beautiful and definitely 'old Florida'.

I zoomed in to see this house on the river.

Oh, look! Here comes a river boat motoring down at a leisurely speed.

Life is going at a slower speed. So what can you do?

Oh, let's see....put on long sleeves and go out in the heat and pick blackberries at Halpata Tastanaki Preserve?

There are a few wild blueberry bushes in the berry patch too.

And it's not too hot to cook in the oven for an hour to make a cobbler, is it?

Life is good! Even in the heat of summer!

Stay cool and safe this week and enjoy each day!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Hello,

Love both the herons, great captures. The weather here has been hot and humid, not nice weather for hiking. Your cobbler looks delicious.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend.

Great pictures, Diane!! Thanks for always taking us along on your hikes! It is almost too hot to go from the house to the car!! LOL Happy weekend!! xo

It is hot, but I do love the slower summer days. The heat makes us slow down.

Hot here in Mississippi, too. A cousin has blueberry bushes (tame, not the wild ones), and we went to her house yesterday morning to pick them. 7am and it was already hot! But now I have 9 quart freezer bags full of blueberries. I add a few to my morning Cheerios almost every day.
Great photos! I especially like the ones of the Black-crowned Night Heron.
Have a blessed day!

You may be surprised, Diane, but I always enjoy the times when you are beaten back inside by the heat. Have you made changes in the lanai? Made some new clothes for the dollies? I liked seeing the baking very much. I bet it was extra delicious.

Haha ... perhaps the turtle was seeking shade beneath the heron. Extreme heat is a challenge endured by many across the globe nowadays.

We appreciate our life in Michigan in the summer! The whole country has weather trouble: heat, drought, fire, floods... I think your weather is at least normal for Florida summer, and I hope you don't have any hurricanes!

What heat?

Terrific pictures of a summer outing on the river. The cobbler looks wonderful. I've got some ice cream for it .....

It is awfully hot here in Italy too, at the moment.
Hot and dry. Unfortunately. Poor critters!

Love your blackberry cake.

Happy weekend! 🌈

Hi Diane. I didn't know there is a "Old Florida" but when I thought a little, I could make sense of it. I can imagine why you go out early in that humidity and and to escape the heat of the day. After all, it's only Englishmen who go out in the midday sun!

I can only imagine how hot it is to be out in Florida this time of the year. As snowbirds, we left about 2 weeks ago back to Pennsylvania. My husband often points to things and calls it "old Florida"... I thought it was only him.. Well, I did enjoy the shots you got to the birds. Thanks

I know first hand what the heat is like there, I got sunburned one weekend when I visited St Johns Island and it was not even June. Did not help I got eaten by Mosquito's in one of the parks I went to. Nice spotting of that heron, I saw one flying over our village today

It is rather cool here in Toronto today but the heat is to come back this week and it will be nothing like you have. Love the heron shots and that river house.

Well if it was a challenge to get good photos . . . then I would say you certainly succeeded. I haven't visited for a while and now I'm going to look through some of your past posts to see what I've been missing.
Enjoy your cobbler it looks amazing :)

When you're staying inside more, we are venturing out more. Or at least some people are. You did find some pretty birds. Those berries look good and the cobbler is making me hungry.

Ideal weather for me is around 19 to 23 degrees, so your weather would just about do me in. Yesterday we met young friends of ours with their new 3-month old son, their first child, and we walked about 5km together. The birding was great, the wildflowers prolific, and the weather was nineteen degrees. Perfect!

We had heat a couple of months ago, it's really chilly today!
I quite like the heron and turtle action!

i would imagine hiking in your area during summer would be somewhat difficult because of the heat. the black-crowned heron is gorgeous, what beautiful images. it's funny how smart animals are, always hanging out in the shade...the heron is so pretty!!

we use the grill a lot during the summer, but for a cobble, the oven would be quite acceptable!!

Hi Dear, I'm glad you didn't stay in the house - you brought wonderful photos! The herons were willing to have you take their picture - I think the Great Blue Heron was very distracted by the turtle ;-) Your berry cobbler is whetting my appetite - I'd love to have a piece of that now!
All the best from (recently) also hot Austria - and thank you for always paying so much attention to my blog posts! <3
Have a great new week!

PS: My husband and I also read the book The 100 year old man who climbed out the window and disappeared with enthusiasm and amusement :-D

I am a Florida girl too. The days are currently sweltering. We affectionately call it "Swamp heat" (laugh).

Love the photos on your walk. I've always enjoyed casual birdwatching. Great photos.

And love the cobbler with the wild berries.

Stay cool.

Best,
Velva

Hello my friend...so nice to have already heard from you. It has just been such a difficult time here and so much to do and so HOT and HUMID. Your pictures are so pretty and that Ferry boat was so neat! I take it that Florida is having a heat wave too. Our daughter and her husband have lived in Florida for about 7 years. In the morning they will leave Florida with all of their belongings. Concerned about my health as well as needing some time with family, they made the decision a month ago and SOLD their house the first day. I hope you are doing well. Oh yum on the berry cobbler! Never too hot to fix a ggod fruit cobbler. I made one today with fresh peaches and raspberries~

We just returned from a 45 min walk and it’s only 6:30 am….we too try to beat the heat over here. Although we didn’t see quite the number of interesting birds you did. The cobbler looks delicious!

I understand you. Too hot makes you stay indoors. But close to lakes it is often good anyway. Your cobbler looks tasty :)

Your blueberry cobbler looks scrumptious, and with a cup of coffee, even better. What a view for the people that live in the house on the river. And the name, Rainbow River, is such a sweet name. Try to stay cool. It just started to warm up here, but up until now, it was chilly in the mornings and I had my heater on. It made me so sad to hear of all those homeless people who died from the heat. It's a scorcher in some areas, and unbearable. Your bird photos are nice, and that little Night Heron is so cute.

Have a good rest of the week Diane.

Zooming close up to the house was interesting. They were definitely porch-sitting people - just like me! Some people's front porches are only for looks but these people love sitting outside. You can tell by all of the chairs and how they are arranged.
