We've had a lovely Spring with perfect hiking weather and lots of pretty things to photograph in the forest.
This is a trail I take from hwy 484 through the woods in the direction of Shangri-la.
Shangri-la is a trailhead and a campground and it's a favorite destination too.
This particular trailhead is only 3 miles from my driveway so I go there often.
And of course there are trails that take off in several directions so every hike is different.
One day I photographed these Blue Lupines in full bloom.
They are scattered throughout the forest and really are a burst of color among the pine needles and old leaves.
And then another day I spotted these white Lupines!
I had never seen them before so that was amazing!
I watched a little Black-capped Chickadee high in the tree.
The leaves of this tree are a pretty Spring green.
And then there were two Red-bellied Woodpeckers chasing each other.
I think it might have been a Spring ritual too.
Lots to see and do! I need to take some 'energy pills'! haha!
Have a beautiful weekend!

Sharnkla is a paradise for sure, so beautiful
Love seeing the trails, Diane! Great pictures of the woodpeckers-- we have them here but they are hard to photograph, to me anyway---- they move so fast! Those wildflowers are so pretty, we have purple ones here, and yellow this year, I enjoy them so much.
You are a lucky person. My little chickadee! Aloha
What lovely photos from your wanderings, Diane. I loved seeing the blue and white wild lupines. And what great photos of the woodpeckers - they are such gorgeous birds. Happy Weekend!
It's all lovely but those blue lupines just scream spring!
What a pretty trail that is. I would love to have something like that close to my house. Those lupines are beautiful. I especially like the blue ones.
Happy Hiking!
Beautiful pictures, the birds are always a delight to see.
The woodpeckers look so fatnastic
The trail looks like a great place for walking.
Great photos of the wood pecker.
We have a couple of pileated woodpeckers that live out back.
Great photos and the lupines are so pretty! I really like the white ones! Happy weekend!
Lovely photos and interesting hike - thanks for sharing!
Lots to see on your walk. Love the lupines - they will be here in a month or so. The Red-bellied Woodpecker is a cheery sight!
Beautiful pictures. I love the lupine.
Hello Diane,
I love the Lupines, they are really pretty. Great captures of the Woodpecker and the Chickadee! It is a nice trail for your hiking and views of nature!
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great day and a happy weekend.
Hello Diane :=)
It was worth the hike just to see the pretty lupins bedecking the forest floor. We have yellow ones here but I prefer the blue. Wonderful sightings of the Red-bellied Woodpecker and the Black-capped Chickadee. No monsters this week, perhaps they were in hiding :=)
Have a happy weekend
All the best
Sonjia.
Beautiful flowers!
Great bird photos!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Diane,
It sounds like you've been having a wonderful time exploring the natural beauty near your home this Spring! The presence of both blue and rare white Lupines must add a delightful splash of color to your hikes. It’s fascinating to hear about your encounters with the local wildlife, like the Black-capped Chickadee and the Red-bellied Woodpeckers—Spring really does seem to bring the forest to life. Your close proximity to such a diverse natural area is truly enviable. Keep enjoying those vibrant trails and capturing those beautiful moments. Have a fantastic weekend filled with more adventurous and picturesque hikes!

Beautiful spring hike photos! The lupines look stunning, especially the white ones you found. Sounds like a great place to explore. Maybe caffeine is all the energy you need!
Beautiful photos! We saw the same woodpecker and the chickadees this morning on a walk in our Michigan woods, but the trees are very bare and the temperatures were pretty low. Your spring looks lovely.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
isn't it amazing how flowers grow in the forest without any care from humans. the lupines are so pretty, i wouldn't mind having those in my gardens!! your bird captures are lovely!!
The Lupines are lovely. I have tried growing them with little luck.
I like the trail to Shangri-la and hope it doesn't disappoint.
Have a great week.
The lupines are pretty. I like woodpeckers!
beautiful birds and plants..... love nature...
# we used to see woodpeckers at our backyard.... lovely bird.
What a beautiful place to walk.
The Red-bellied Woodpecker is really amazing.
Greetings Irma
You found a lot of beauty close to home!
Happy Sunday!
Once Lupines take hold therapy are tenacious and prolific and create a wonderful display.
These kind of look like the flowers on my post today, but not sure. The woodpecker is always a delight to see. He visits me often at my house. This looks like a nice woodsy trail. That second photo is pretty with all the green.
Have a wonderful week ahead.

Beautiful hike! I really like the blue and white Lupines! The flowers are such a pretty shape, like bells!
Thank you for sharing these beautiful photographs of the birds and flowers.
Such a lovely time of year.
All the best Jan
What a wonderful series of great photographs! Felt like I was right there with you.
Where do I find these "energy pills"??
I enjoyed the walk through the woods! Loved the Birds and the close-up of the white Lupine. We could really see how intricate and beautiful it is. It is getting warmer now, so be sure to wear sun-screen and a hat when you hike! Love, Aunt Helen
Always love your bird photographs. We've been having a great spring and the tulips are fabulous. We've had some rainy days, but that's why the tulips are fabulous.
Such pretty birds and flowers!
Indeed, dear Diane, close at home there are many wonderful birds and plants. I agree with you so much.
There are lovely scenes indeed. I enjoyed reading. Today is comment - day, it`s raining outside ... and I thank you for sharing at

Me ha parecido un paseo genial, me encantan los pájaros y las flores. Besos.
cute little birds
Perfectly named place! I've been "hunting" woodpeckers lately too. They come out of hiding even here in our resort about now -- I don't know if it's because so many people have left or because it's just the time of year, but either way I'm always so happy to see them. ...
White Lupines... oh my, I love them. Our lupine will bloom here in Wisconsin in June.
:-)
I didn't realize lupines grew wild. Well, duh. I guess everything grew wild once or we wouldn't have it today. They are beautiful and look better than anything in anyone's well tended garden.
