"The Bridge to Nowhere" Old Town, Florida

We took a day trip to Old Town, Florida on one of our camping trips for a hike to the Suwannee River.

And yes, we walked across the "Bridge to Nowhere".

It was a beautiful sunny morning but the trees along the path provided plenty of shade and this was my favorite photo of the day.

Of course hubby and I got into the picture with that beautiful background!

There's so much history on the internet that I will add some links if you want to learn more.

This one HERE told of the supply ship that brought lumber to build the bridge. They sunk the ship when the delivery was made. That seems so odd but you can see the sunken ship sometimes.

Another good article HERE.

We took our time and took photos from both sides of the bridge.

Of course the Suwannee River is a beautiful river and we had a quiet morning.

There were very few walkers and bikes and no boats on the river.

It sure gave us a peaceful time in nature.

There were a few houses and this one was right on the river.

Another house had a longhorn cow and a donkey.

We saw hummingbirds feeding on the trumpet vine too.

These were purple martins I think.

This sign was at a residence along the trail.

It's an out of the way place to visit.

Just what I love!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

  and Mosaic Monday HERE !

Looks like a fantastic walk. Beautiful photos along your way.
I just read Grandma Gatewood's Walk and thought you would like it. She was the first woman to walk the complete Appalachian Trail alone.

the bridge to nowhere... wonder if it's more peaceful there. I so want a donkey. Some of the places we're looking at to live in France allow donkeys.

Looks like a great place to walk, very tranquil - and I suppose you could add your own little piece of 'art' to the bridge if you wanted to.

When we used to go to Florida I always looked for the sign for the Suwannee River and sang a few words of the song. It looks like a beautiful place. Love your Hummingbird shot.

When I see rivers like that, I cannot help but think of what kind of fishing it has. Love that area, so much to offer an outdoor enthusiast.

What a beautiful place to walk while out camping, Diane. Bridges like that are fun to research as well as cross. The hummingbird at the trumpet vine is a stunning photo. Have a good week!

Wow, this is a BEAUTIFUL PLACE to visit, so glad you took us along! love all these pictures and I LOVE OLD BRIDGES. I've been on one or two that are closed down, and they are so amazing and historic, and usually in the smack dab middle of nowhere, LOL! Which makes it even better, as long as you can hike to them. (some are eerie too, LOL) Very neat you can still see that ship underwater, now THAT is something really neat to see! Hope your upcoming week is great my friend! KEEP HIKING!

This is really an environment where you can unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle is also good for the body and mind. You took beautiful pictures and also read some information which was also interesting to read. And also the movie was beautiful. Every now and then I come to read and now I also leave a comment again. Then you know I am still following you. But due to lack of time I don't always respond. I am also not much on the internet, because i has also another life just as evrybody had what is important. Greetings from a very rainy Netherlands, Tine

What a peaceful place to visit. Lucky people who live along the river. Seeing the hummingbird is extra special to me. The town next to us has purple martin houses in many yards. It's special to see them swooping through the intersections of the town at dusk catching insects attracted to the street lamps.

This was a peaceful and serene walk in a great part of Florida! The River is so beautiful and quiet. I was surprised to see the animals there, so I guess there is a farm place on the River. Thank you for this special hike on the Suwanee River. Have a nice Memorial Weekend. Love, Aunt Helen

Wish you a blessed day too, dear Diane. This River looks calm. But I believe, he can be wild.

Another round of MosaicMonday in the middle of May... and I'm looking forward to your contribution again. More pictures this week that tell the story of your surroundings, of nature, of your everyday life. Pictures that also tell a story.

Thank you for your participation. Have a good time, hugs from Heidrun

Love this hike! That's definitely a purple martin apartment house. I'm not sure why they like to live that way. (I live in an apartment too part of the year, and sometimes I'm not even sure about that!)

Yes, I like to read more of this Park. Thank you for this link too, dear Diane. This Park looks like a small paradise and it must be wonderful to walk through this ways.

Thank you being Part at MM. Hugs by Heidrun

Yes, it is a Purple Martin entering the gourd house. We have houses set up in our field where we can watch them from the front porch. They love eating mosquitoes.
