Aliens from outer space....close to home!

The 'close to home' part of my title concerns our weather.

With the storms this month we've hiked close to home and went on a camping trip close to home.

The Alien?

Don't you love this beautiful Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly?

He was very photogenic and stayed around long enough for me to shoot a whole roll of film!

I guess back in the days of film cameras, I wouldn't have gotten this many photos!

The month of October has been stressful from the storms and restful with the camping trip.

And I won't complain about staying close to home.

Our weather has at least been good for the mushrooms! Lots of moisture, heat and humidity!

We didn't have any damage from Hurricane Milton! I'm keeping everyone who did in my prayers. And we continue to pray for those affected by Hurricane Helene. It's been a tough Fall for this part of the country!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

  and Mosaic Monday HERE !

I don't think I've ever seen one of those kids of butterflies before! That is beautiful! Wow! Yes, I agree, the old fashioned cameras just didn't quite get all the best shots in. Our cell phone cameras are much quicker, but not always as well defined as a "real camera", but my digital camera is a bit slower and I do get frustrated waiting for it to focus, so I often just go for the cellphone instead, but can't get the good long distance shots that way. So it's a toss up. I am glad you still use a real camera. Is yours very heavy? I find that mine is too heavy to wear around my neck anymore, and so more and more I am leaving it behind. I can't afford a different camera at this stage, so I guess I just have to make some sacrifices. I love your pictures and the fact that you are walking in our beautiful woods in this part of the state. I am also thankful to know you didn't have any storm damage. Neither did we, except for one small pine tree that was diseased anyway and needed to come down. We are VERY thankful. So many are suffering. We keep them in our thoughts and prayers for certain. Take care my friend. Keep walking!

This was such an interesting post thanks for sharing. It's always fun to tag along on your hikes. Of course it would be more fun to do it in person but this is second best. Have a nice day,
Connie

I am happy to hear that the storm passed you by. Many, of course, were not so fortunate.

I for one sure changed my photographic habits with digital cameras. Electrons are free! Film, and developing are expensive!!

Great pictures of the butterflies and fungus. Sorry it's been a stressful month with the storms; but glad you were able to get out and camp and hike close to home to have some enjoyment time...it helps to get through the stressful times.

Very good news to hear you had no storm damage. Ours, thankfully, was minor.

What a lovely collection of photographs! Hoping to get out soon and enjoy our "autumn".

I'm glad to know all is well at the Casa Viola! Yes, it has been a hard month or so in Florida, but your post shows well why we still go there in spite of everything. We probably have some water damage in the Canal Cottage "basement" and someone is coming to look at it next week. (The resort is open and there was no wind damage, so at least we know we have a home to go back to)...it's so weird dealing with it all from clear across the country -- again. Not as bad this time though. .... anyway, really glad you are well and got in some camping and hiking. The butterfly is wonderful and your bluebird header shot is fabulous.

Dear Diane,
I'm very glad that you didn't have any damage from the hurricane. This year the weather is going crazy all over the world and climate change is having a stronger impact everywhere. But it seems to have been safe near your home and it looks like good days in nature - that makes me happy!!! And you brought wonderful photos with you!

(In our country there were also storms and bad floods with a few deaths, but it's not comparable to the US hurricane damage. And we were also lucky not to have been affected by the bad effects of the storms. Now the weather is cool, but nice again in our part of Austria.)
All the best again and hugs, Traude
