Follow me to Cross Creek!

Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

DSCN6520

We had an adventure....to Cross Creek...the 'real' Florida!

DSCN6521

First we watched the movie, (It's WONDERFUL!)

my hubby did some research on the computer...

and off we went to Cross Creek!

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings moved to this rural part of Florida in 1928.

This 72 acre orange grove and her Cracker neighbors were the inspiration for her writing. Her best known book, The Yearling won a Pulitzer Prize in 1939 and was later made into a movie.

We took the tour of the house and I just had to include a few photos of this!

Her writing table and a bed for summer time sleeping...on the porch!

I found it interesting that she had so many famous people visit her there, Gregory Peck, Margaret Mitchell, Ernest Hemingway and Robert Frost.

Her Bedroom and private bath had it's own entrance from the back porch!

I love this linoleum! My Dad had this same pattern in an old cabin he owned in North Carolina!

I loved this sweet table in her dining room!

Her garden...

and a trail we hiked

to see the Cypress Knees (it was not swampy...which surprised me!)

My husband and I both have copies of the book Cross Creek from the library

and we are enjoying learning even more!

DSCN6518

What a neat experience....to watch the movie, visit Cross Creek and take a tour of the house and then to read the book for even more stories and details! What a blessing to live in a country so rich in stories of the past!

I hope your week is filled with adventure! sun

Does anybody really wear those?

That's what the lady asked me when I was paying for this pretty little apron at my favorite Thrift Store.

DSCN6360

I told the lady that I wear one every day of my life! I had one on preparing lunch before I came!

DSCN6374

She said she could remember seeing her grandmother wear one....this from a lady old enough to be MY mother!

This is another pretty apron I love to hang on my pantry door....

DSCN6367

I love the detail! It even has eyelet fabric as the lining!

DSCN6369

I have some pretty aprons but what do I normally wear?

DSCN3218_thumb[7]

Or this one that I made using a pattern and fabric my sweet cousin, Cindy gave me....

And now a question for all of my best girlfriends in blogland!

What do you do when you feel blue?

I don't mean way down deep depression...which I know is real and deserves attention.

What do you do when you feel melancholy or low?

I clean.

Is that normal?

I put everything in order..and clean as I go. My study/sewing room is all cleaned up. Every scrap of paper is filed, patterns folded and put away, fabric on the shelves, thread and scissors in the sewing basket....trash emptied!

Now what do I do? I guess it will be easier to start a new project now! lol

Here's a little bag I made to put inside my beach bag for small items.

DSCN5917

I still have other ideas for this fabric....but that will have to wait! I'll live in my 'clean zone' for a little while longer and try not to feel blue!

DSCN5914

So what do you do when you feel blue...and how do you snap out of it?

Hope you'll comment and share your thoughts! (I think this is my record number of questions in one post! lol)

"Wednesday Wee Ones" Summer time dolls

June is my MOST favorite month of the year!

DSCN6569

I love lots of warm sunshine and spending time outside!

 DSCN6570

This precious girl makes me think of summer fun!

 DSCN6571

I have a new turquoise blue shirt for summer and a cute new necklace called Through the Looking glass, handmade by Juanita! Her prices are great and everything is unique!

DSCN5765

You can visit her blog HERE...and her shop  HERE!

I think this pretty girl looks sweet in her little pink and green pinafore!

DSCN6566

These are both Lloyd Middleton dolls!

DSCN6568

I love June and wearing cool clothing that I like! I  wear capris most of the time...but today I have on shorts! It's HOT here in Florida!

What do you wear in the summer months?

Enjoy your day! Take time to PLAY...and stay COOL! sun

What did I do with my shells and Who is the winner?

I love seashells...there are so many ways to use them in decorating!

DSCN6323

My hubby gets credit for cleaning my shells and putting them on the table to dry....

DSCN6290

he also made me this sorting box! Thanks Honey!

DSCN6333

I found this big shell bowl at the thrift store and I think it is just what I need for displaying some of the larger shells. It looks like someone glazed and fired it...it's not perfect which makes me love it even more!

DSCN6325

The purple shells...or lavender...are my favorites so I put some in a little 'Made in Italy' ceramic box to place on my table in the lanai along with the book I just finished, Remarkable Creatures by Tracey Chevalier. It is one of the best books I've EVER read! I hope you'll look for it and let me know if you read it! I absolutely LOVE it! It almost makes me wish I had been born in the early nineteenth century...almost! heehee! ♥

DSCN6346

I found this little pure white dish at the Thrift store, too....

DSCN6314

and filled it with shells! Perfect!

DSCN6324

DSCN6316

DSCN6317

This little green bowl would be perfect for sea glass...

DSCN6330

I need to go back to the beach!

DSCN6313

And the WINNER IS.....

Lallee's Cottage !

Send me your address and I will get the book in the mail!

She has a delightful blog and lives close by! I'm delighted she won and hope everyone will put this book on their summer reading list!

DSCN6376

It's wonderful!

Enjoy your day! Happy Blogging!
