“Way down upon the Swanee Ribber”

I didn’t know HOW hard that would be to spell

WRONG! heehee!

DSCN3687

But that’s where we were according to the song,

8_Old_Folks_at_Home

which is the state song of Florida!

DSCN3710

(I was surprised to read the words to the song

and will have to admit it will not be a favorite of mine!)

DSCN3709

But we DID go to Manatee Springs at the Suwannee River!

We aren’t having Mosaic Monday this week

Best-7

but I still made a mosaic!

The fish were amazing to see....

Have you ever seen the Suwannee River or a Manatee?

We didn’t spot one here but my husband and I saw one

on the Gulf Coast in the wild earlier this Spring!

It was EXCITING!

Hope you enjoy your Monday!  island

Hello Diane! Happy Easter! I'm sure you had a great time in the Swanee Ribber (hahaha!)I love the lush greenery, the water and of course the alive fishes! They are pieces of heaven's nature on earth. The place is my ideal vacation place.

Lovely post. Foster also wrote "My Old Kentucky Home" after visiting cousins in Bardstown. That's where my dad lived before he died.

I visited the Swanee Ribber as a kid on a family vacation...so that's been a loooong time ago. Love your beautiful pictures!!!

I hadn't realized all the use of dialect before until seeing that music. Hmmm... Kinda fun and I had no idea that the Swanee Ribber was the Suwannee River. I'm learning a lot today. (This was always great fun to sing in music class. I loved it!)

What a CUTE mosaic, I'm glad you made it and shared, I just love seeing the great outdoors here in Florida.

Now, I do have some good news for you! It never should have taken SO long, but in 2008, the Florida Legislature designated a revised version of the lyrics be the official version.

These pictures are amazing Diane, and no, I have not seen either..the river or manatee. It's interesting to note how clear is the water :) Happy week ahead Diane and missing you a lot. I may try to stay off blog land but blog land is always haunting me haha!

When we drove past the Suwannee River 2 years ago, I said, "Wow, that's from the song!" I started singing it and got so excited!

And the same year, we drove past the Chatahoochee (Alan Jackson's song) and also the one from that song from the 60s about how Billy Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahatchee Bridge....What a river year, huh? lol

I really envy you living in Florida. I just love the flora and fauna! Lucky you to see a manatee. We did see the huge crocodile on Sanibel Island about 17 years ago. They told us last year that it is still around, but kind of shy.

Pat @ Mille Fiori Favoriti said...

I have seen neither, but I hope to one day! I remember so many of these old songs from their use in movies. I was singing "I've been Working On the Railroad" to my grandson last week...lol!
