“Wednesday Wee Ones” find a better use for the ironing board!

Did you really think we were going to iron?

On a nice summer day like this in Florida?

IMG_3912

How do we get this thing in the water?

Let's go surfin' now
Everybody's learning how

Wendy says it’s time for a trip to the beach!

IMG_3916

I mean how much fun is it to play in the bathroom?

Mr. Tortoise has the hang of it already!

Might be FUN!

Take time to PLAY!

11.08 is the magic number

That was my grand total for all of these ‘treasures’.

$11.08

IMG_3843

That’s actually about the most I’ve ever spent at the old thrift store in one visit but I got so many great things….oh and one thing I ‘needed’. Shocking I know! I’ll save it for last! lol

IMG_3831

I sure had fun and stood in line with another thrift buddy that I am on first name basis with now. The two ladies ahead of me were buying the 5 cent clothing and they had all they could carry.

IMG_3848

The little deer was in the package behind the Santas.

It’s all great fun for me and I buy what catches my eye. So sometimes I’m surprised when I get home and find out something is really nice.

IMG_3846

This tea cup set didn’t have a chip or crack on it and I loved the pretty design. I knew the price seemed a little high for the old thrift store but guess what?

IMG_3841

It’s Haviland Limoges!

OH MY! I am SO in love with it!

IMG_3847

And the other thing strange that happens to me all the time…when I find something neat or unique, I’ll find another one the next time I shop.

IMG_3755

I bought this sugar cube server last week. I’ve never seen one before and the price was right. ($1)

IMG_3756

You guessed it….I found another one today.

IMG_3838

For loose sugar, it even had the scoop!

I need to find tongs for the sugar cube dispenser.

IMG_3884

So what did I buy that I needed?

This little tabletop ironing board looks like new and still had the sticker on it. I’ve never had one before and it will be handy for sewing. (it was $3) I better get back to making tiny animals!

IMG_3853

This old apron was 10 cents.

IMG_3885

See anything you like?

Come to Florida and we’ll go thriftin’!

When nice things happen…

You can’t wait to tell your girlfriends!

I’ve learned so much these last few years of blogging.

palmetto

I’ve always taken a lot of photos…I have photo albums filled! And now I have lots of folders on my computer with digital photos. I’ve learned the joy of ‘tweaking’ my photos, too.

I entered a few of my ‘watercolors’, photos edited with the waterlogue app for IPADS and one of my photos was chosen this week by Brittany at Pretty Handy Girl. I am so honored, Brittany! Thanks!

Biltmoreside

(this was the one chosen)

I told Podso about this car I photographed when we were traveling and I loved the way the water color effect worked on it. She said, “Post it!”

VWbug

That’s what girlfriends do. They encourage and support you all along the way.

Here…have some grapes for always leaving such sweet comments!

Let’s go Trackin’!

Even on the days we’re hiking and don’t see a lot of wildlife, we see HUNDREDS of tracks.

tracksmosaictwo

Some we’ve identified and others we haven’t.

I mean, this one is a feline but what exactly? Possibly a bob cat.

IMG_3574

And the same goes with the canines. Coyotes, foxes all live in the forest.

IMG_3610

This one was a mystery for awhile

IMG_3323.

A three toed sloth perhaps? Or a flock of wild turkeys that are very common in our area! lol

IMG_2970

I did get a photo of a beautiful sight but only by accident. I stopped to take this photo and hubby said, maybe some deer will run across the road…CLICK! (I cropped this one photo to give you a closer look at what we saw!)

deerfullIMG_3406

They did and I DID!

deer2IMG_3406

We just stood there for a few minutes in shock!

deerIMG_3406

What a fun sighting!

So far we’ve seen 11 white-tailed deer

at the Halpata Tastanaki Preserve.

Friends and Food “Corn Chowder”

We got the crock pot out to make something NEW this weekend!

Nana Diana’s Easy Crockpot Corn And Potato Chowder.

IMG_3631

Her instructions are HERE and I’ll include the recipe at the end of this post.

IMG_3625

I used this Applewood Smoked uncured bacon and it fried up crispy.

IMG_3626

I probably used a little more onion and a little less celery.

IMG_3627

And I used red skinned potatoes but I followed the recipe pretty closely. (I thickened it at the end like she suggests.)

IMG_3628

Even using this secret ingredient, Thyme!

Nana Diana's Easy Crockpot Corn Chowder

Ingredients:

1# bacon

2 large potatoes- baked in microwave until done.

2 cans Cream of Corn

1 can Niblets Corn

2 large celery stalks- I used one- chopped

1/2 cup chopped onion

4 to 6 cups of whole milk OR 2 cups half and half and 3-4 cups of milk

1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon thyme

1 teaspoon salt-or to taste

Pepper to taste

Directions:

In Crockpot- Mix together 2 cans cream of corn and 1 can niblets corn.  Add milk (or half & half and milk.  Stir in Thyme and salt and pepper.  Stir in 3/4 pound of the bacon.-reserve a couple pieces for garnish.

Meanwhile:  Bake 2 large potatoes until done.  Peel skin off and cut into bite sized chunks.

Saute: chopped celery and onion in 2-3 Tablespoons of bacon grease.  When translucent transfer then to the crockpot..  Heat through on low and serve.  Makes 4 to 6 servings.

Note:  For some reason this demands more salt than most soups.  Add salt until it tastes "right" to you.

If you want a thicker chowder (which hubby likes) take about 1/3 cup flour and mix with 1/2 cup milk until smooth.  Slowly stir into hot chowder and let cook until thickened.

Garnish top of bowl with a few bite sized pieces of bacon.

Thanks Nana Diana!!! The whole house smelled incredible all day as the soup simmered and ‘came together’.

IMG_3632

We crumbled some of the crispy bacon on top and shared a garlic bagel from Delancey’s bagel shop.

IMG_3634

OH MY! Do you know this pretty lady?

Diana

If you see her today…

give her a BIG HUG for me!

IMG_3633

This chowder was incredible!!!

(and yes, it was the first time I’ve ever made it!)

I’m joining Penny for Tasty Tuesday!

It will be a favorite from now on! Is it a soup you like?

Let’s don’t go straight home!

We drove into town to go to the new Michael’s Craft store. It was so much fun to walk around to see what’s new. Hubby needed boxes to organize things on the new shelves he put up over his desk. I needed important things like pink felt and buttons for bunny and bear eyes.

And on our way home, we drove down a street that has a small pond. A good place to get out and walk around.

pondIMG_3745

It was a beautiful setting.

ebigIMG_3744

And when we got out of the car we saw an eagle soaring overhead.

eagleIMG_3738

What a beautiful sight.

eagleIMG_3742

It’s not a rare sighting here in Florida but it’s very exciting for us to see!

eIMG_3744

Sometimes it pays to go the ‘long way’ home.

(we still have so many wildflowers blooming, too!)

Florida Horses

We drove down a white sandy road on our way to a trailhead and I took a few photos.

The horses were ahead of us and I took this through the windshield. (It’s the original unaltered, through the glass!)

IMG_3174

And then we got out and walked around

fenceIMG_3197

to get a few photos of the barbed wire fence…

fencecloseIMG_3198

and the gate.

gate2IMG_3202

It was a beautiful, bright sunshiny Florida afternoon!
