The Joys of the Library! “Literary Friday”

Come on! Hop in! Let’s run over to the library!

On these hot summer days I love to read.

It takes me back to my childhood. Growing up in Arkansas, I walked to the library on hot summer days to check out books. Then I would spread an old quilt on the grass under a tree and read all afternoon.

I’m reading two mystery series and loving them both!

Maisie is a wonderful character in this series by Jacqueline Winspear.

And if Inspector Gamache wasn’t already married…I would propose! (oh, did I forget that I’m already married, too? hahaha) Mysteries by Louise Penny.

IMG_5399

We’re watching the Cranford series thanks to the library and so many of your suggestions!

IMG_5390

Oh, and do you enjoy a free magazine as much as I do?

I’m joining Ricki Jill for Literary Friday HERE!

What’s not to love about your local library!

What are you reading?

Have a wonderful weekend! Island with a palm tree

Oh I can just see you lying on your blanket under the shade tree. That is what I always wanted to do growing up....but I had to entertain and watch all my little siblings on a shade tree blanket.....at the time I hated it, felt so stifled. But I would go back to that time , well for a bit, just so all my family could be together again. Well I am sure you know what I mean. Blessings for a fun weekend, xoxo,Susie

We just got new library cards in our new town and they have such a nice library. It even has a pretty New Mexio fireplace in it. Haven't checked out any books yet but we have checked out the Anne of Green Gable series on dvd. Libraries are a wonderful place for a family. Your books look very interesting. :)

Lovely post! It's fun to see what you're reading. I should be back to blogging full time next week! In the meantime, have a lovely weekend, my friend.

I love libraries too and it began as a small child visiting the children's room, with my mom, who was a librarian. Guess what career I chose? Yup, librarian. I adore Maisie too and bought the first book in the Louise Penny series. Do you read the Donna Leon mystery series, set in Venice? My husband and I love that series too.

What a nice memory to read outside on a summer afternoon. Think many kids do that today??

I love going to the library. Even better, I love ordering the books I want on line and going to the library to pick them up! Louise Penny is a favorite - that Inspector Gamache is quite a dish, isn't he? I've been watching the Land Girls DVDs obtained at the library, and reading a book about local history. Time for another murder mystery I think. Have a good weekend.

I love libraries. I grew up in one mostly when I was a child. I still prefer a real book to one on a computer.

We made weekly trips to the library when I was a kid and then also went to the mobile library in between. I always had a stack of books to read. I still have my original Chicago Public Library card. I think it's considered an antique now. :-)

I'm often reading 2 or 3 books at the same time too.

I would love to go with you to the Library! I could easily spend hours there :) We have several fire places in our town library so it's a perfect place to go during the winter to curl up with a book.

Enjoy your weekend, friend! Hugs

Ah libraries! Where would we be without them? Granny always counted her loose change on our outings so that we could treat ourselves (yes, you paid for borrowing books in my hometown).
Cranford is a favourite of ours, Diane. I hope you enjoy it too!

I too love mysteries. The book that I am going to start is Buddha in the Attic, by Julie Otsuka. I'll let you know how I feel about it. Gearing up for the week end, getting ready for guests this week, so lots of cleaning to get done. Wether is really nice hear not too hot, not too cold, just right. XXOO

Fun post. And I agree, so many wonderful things to read. :-)

Oh I did lie on a blanket this afternoon looking at the clouds. It wasn't comfortable enough to lie there and read, though. I need a chaise lounge! Thank you for your sweet encouragements to read!

I loved going to the library when my daughter was little and we would both pick out books to read! I miss those days and I might start going back again. I used to work in the children's section of our local library and it was my 1st job.

Thanks for popping over to my guest blogging post too.

I will have to write down these books. Have a wonderful summer weekend reading books! Stay cool.

Julie

I used to love laying in the grass in my past home. Now I'm too old, maybe I need a chaise, lol!

I'm surprised they haven't dedicated a chair in the library to me I'm in there so much. Louise Penny has a new one coming out in August. xo Laura

I've been sneaking in my reading here and there! So tired at night I'm falling asleep before reading much. Another few weeks and Mom should be settled and I can get to my TBR list! I have read a few Louise Penny books and want to read more Inspector Gamache stories!!

Hi Diane, I have always loved books and going to the library was a special day. I used to spend time at the bookmobile in our school parking lot in grade school. It would come every Thursday and we would line up to go inside and checkout our selections. What fun!! Looks like you have a great few books to read.
I just started a third new write from Leila Meacham called Somerset. She is a new author from Texas who's first book Roses and the second book Tumbleweed were best sellers.
Have a great weekend and enjoy reading and going to the library.
Hugs

I've always loved to read and now in retirement belong to a book club that meets the first Monday of the month. Being retired is like having summer all year. :)

Love mysteries and will check out the ones you are reading...

I loved spreading a blanket on the yard when I was a kid!! Glad you're trying Cranford. Tomorrow night on PBS the second season of one of our favorite mysteries begins at 9 your time. Endeavour. We love it. Other than an occasional British mystery, there's nothing worth watching on TV. Have you read the Dorothy L. Sayers Lord Peter mysteries? They're really great.

I didn't know you were from Arkansas....where abouts? I'm in North Central. It sounds like you spent your summers the same way I spent mine...reading lots!
I love Maisie Dobbs books and I'll have to check out Louise Penny. I always love your suggestions. Enjoy!

Whoops- also meant to ask.. I'm not familiar with the Louise Penny mysteries. Is it a series - i.e. should they be read in a certain order?

I love reading, too. As a kid, my whole family went to the library weekly. Now I get my books at Amazon. com for my Kindle. They have a good library of free books for Kindles.

We have a brand new library just down the street from my home that I haven't been to yet. I need to go! Summer is the perfect time to read. Thanks for the book suggestions.

I'm on my 3rd Masie Dobbs story - a good read from Jaqueline Winspear.

I rode my bike 2 miles to get to the library and, like you, would sit under a tree and read for hours. I'm currently reading War Brides by Helen Bryon. It's out July book club selection. Sadly, I'm not thrilled with it, but it's okay.

I also love to read and I was thrilled to find a "Little Free Library" box in my neighborhood. I've found so many wonderful books in it that neighbors have read and I place books I'm finished with for others to read. My last book was a non fiction book about how the California Wine Country began in Napa -- very interesting!

I wish you could see our library Diane! It looks like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Teeny, tiny...and you drop off your books in their open mailbox when they're closed! It's a real throwback :).

I'll have to check into your author's as I haven't read them. I tend to stick with the same ones most of the time.

And, that's my HONEY on the magazine. Good old George; he just gets better and better although he's giving up the touring, I hope he'll still record some new songs.

xoxo

You are the sweetest, BTW….I've heard about the Louise Penny series….I need to check-out Chief Inspector Gamache, methinks!

Thanks so much for your support of Literary Friday. I appreciate your encouragement. I've needed it lately!
