It was a cool and windy afternoon but the sun was out bright so we took a brisk walk! (hike #42)
Right when we got to Caney Creek a Hawk flew in front of us and landed in the tree along the path.
We’re pretty sure he is a Red Tailed Hawk but if you think otherwise, let me know.
He was a little smaller than the ones we’ve seen lately in Florida so at first we thought he something different.
I got good photos of his back, breast and head though.
I think he’s looking at me here! lol
We also saw a big fat robin and other song birds on the trails.
We noticed that we were walking at a little faster pace with the temps in the 50s and a 20 mph wind. It felt great though!
I’ve lived in this area for many years and it’s always like coming home. I love it!
Fletcher Park still had it’s tribute for the Veterans out so that was nice to see too!

Hawks seem to be abundant this year. we have seen three that hang out together at Grimmwood. I love to hear them "call" to each other.
Wow, that hawk is giving you the evil eye! But, how fortunate to get such closeups of him/her. It's got to be thrilling.
Walking in the 50 degree weather sounds perfect! It was in the 80’s here yesterday!
Just as we were leaving the ranch Thursday, a hawk was sitting on the gate as we drove up to it. Which I could have got a photo of him.

Great pictures of the hawk. Fletcher Park is a nice place to walk, because it is flat and not mountainous, like Dupont.

Diane - the hawk is dazzling; I can't get over the feather patterns and his bright eyes! I love the area around Asheville - the way the mountains overlap each other makes for great shots. Can't wait to see more from your trip!

We have lots of hawks here too - I have to worry about the chickens because of them and only let them free-range nowadays when we're out working in the yard or farm.
I love the pictures of your hawk. I remember the first picture I took of a hawk that was in my backyard. He was so big and I was so excited that my camera shook. You would have thought I had found a wild animal or something. There is something about nature that excites me and makes me happy.
It certainly is much cooler here today. (32) and we got 3 inches of rain last night and now have a boil advisory for three days. UGH!
Well, I better get that turkey out of the freezer and let the Thanksgiving preparations begin! Enjoy your time in NC.

It's the wind that makes it seem colder although 50s will feel great around here in another couple of months. Love your hawk pictures, it does look as though he's looking right at you!

That Hawk is sure a nice looking fellow. The Robin is my beloved bird. He doesn't scare easily like the others and lets me take his picture. He's a peaceful bird, and so special. Your hikes always end up meeting some unique critter in the woods. : )
