"Grandma Gatewood's Walk"

I'll begin with a quote from Grandma Gatewood's Walk, " I want to see what's on the other side of the hill and then what's beyond that."

Grandma Gatewood's Walk by Ben Montgomery is a fantastic book to read whether you are a 'hikeaholic' like me or not! Just to read about a woman that at the age of 67 took off on an adventure is exciting from start to finish.  I keep my book list in my journal (and another one on Goodreads) and I save the highest rating for the best books I've read. This one gets the very highest. I've read a lot of good books this year but so far only 2 have received ALL the stars! (the other one is The Kingdom of the Blind by Louise Penny)

In 1955 this amazing woman hiked the Appalachian Trail....at age 67! She kept a diary and the author was able to share a lot of what happened to her along the way. She went on to hike it again...and again...3 times total, along with other famous trails. It is a story of strength and courage and one I think anyone would be inspired by.

I'm very thankful for good books and public libraries.

Have you read a good book lately? Do you think I would like it?

I'm still practicing my 'art' too! I sketched and then painted this little bunny with watercolors. Have a blessed week!

Hello,

Grandma Gatewood sounds like an amazing woman. She is an inspiration to us all. I keep a list of my books on Goodreads too. I am very thankful for my library and that they have a great selection of ebooks. Louise Penny's books are some of my favorites too, I read them all. Happy Thursday, enjoy your day. Have a great Easter Weekend!

I was all set to write how much that book sounds like my kind of book and I simply must see if the library had it when I saw that adorable bunny you have created. Oh my word...he is so cute! Your practicing is paying off.

All the books I read are free ones that I can get on my kindle. Some are good some not so much but then what do you expect for free...lol
Love the bunny you painted. You're really good at that

I will add that book to my 'must read' list - Thanks for the review!
You might enjoy Rick Bragg's 'The Best Cook in the World.' He tells stories of his mother and grandmother and includes recipes for good country cooking.
I, too, am very thankful for public libraries!

She sounds like a remarkable woman! I feel similarly when in a car, not on foot. 🙃

Seems to me that one of the fundamental differences between humans and other animals is that we are always curious about what is on the other side of the hill. For a lion, or a chipmunk, an eagle or a shrew as long as there is food, shelter, safety and a place to breed, the sensible thing is to stay put. Let others worry about what's on the other side of the hill.

I'm going to look for your book. I am reading He Used A Stone by Andrew Mullek. It has been a huge help for me and has shown me how we all have giants (ours right now is cancer) but our Lord is so much bigger than the giants that torment us. It's the story of David like I've never read before and it is so inspiring. Hard to put down.
Happy Easter and thank you so much for your prayers . . . believe me when I say that all the prayers have touched our hearts and we both are so very grateful. It's wonderful to be loved and prayed for:)

That sounds Great! I loved "Kingdom of the Blind." There was a great article in a paper somewhere in Canada, I think, about Louise Penny and the "real" three pines. You can probably find it on google! Makes me want to go back to Quebec!

Sounds like an interesting book. I always think hiking sounds like a good idea, but then I remember how much I'd rather be comfortable and read someone else's adventures. LOL

That books sounds really good and interesting. I love when I read a book I just love! I just finished the Goldfinch and I love it. I really love the cute bunny you made. Have a wonderful Easter.

How encouraging to read about Grandma Gatewood and that adventure can begin even at 67 or older. I keep a list of books I've read. Louise Penny is always at the top. I really enjoyed The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley; it's a different genre, but it's a story that's stayed with me. Happy Easter, Diane.

I've read articles about her and I'm thrilled to see there is now a book about her. I can't wait to read this. Well, if she can do it at 67, then there is still hope for me too. LOL.

I read that book a while ago and loved it! I think I might own it on Kindle....if I do, your post talks me into reading it again! I check out library books for my Kindle so I don’t go there as often as I used to, but I too am thankful for them.
