The Freedom Library

If you've visited me over the years, you KNOW that I love public libraries! I was fortunate to have a best friend, Jeannie Carol who lived across the street and also loved to read. She was just a couple of years older so I was able to tag along with her and walk to the library, especially during the summer months. We would spread a quilt under the Silver Maples in her front yard and read to our heart's content! She helped me with any words I didn't know and we even played 'school'. I went back to school in the Fall knowing a little more than my other classmates as a result! Aahhhh! Such good memories!

 Wendy can read!

Of course you probably knew that already! hahaha
(I've sure had fun with her lately! Thanks for playing along!)

So what did I bring home from the library this week? I'll start by saying that I check out books online and read them on my IPAD now using a program called Overdrive. FREE from the library!

But this week was the Book Sale!

I'll make some mosaics to share my 'finds'!

$7 bought everything you see here!

No wonder it's so hard to pay $5 for a Golden Book. We bought them for 39 cents back in the 'olden days'!

And I picked up some new bookmarks,

And got some good movies to watch,

And the latest Ocala magazines were in the lobby!

What a haul! And in case you wonder! I don't 'hoard' all of my children's books. I donate a lot of them to the family room at the Legacy Hospice house where I volunteer doing patient visits every week.

Have you used your library card lately?

I’m joining Angie for Mosaic Monday HERE

I am actually heading there today. I love the library. We moved to town in the sixth grade and there was nothing better than going to the library for me. I have a lot of those Little Golden books in my stash and I spy that Hiawatha book. I am pretty sure I read that same one back in sixth grade. I need to check if we have the online option.

I was about to ask in my comment why all the childrens books, but then you answered the question before I asked. that is QUITE the haul. wow on the prices.. I use my library card but never go to the library. the last time I wa there, was 2 years ago when Irma the hurricane took out our cable for a week and I went to borrow movies to watch... I log in on overdrive and check out my books and send to my ereader. I have been doing that for over 5 years now... my favorite part of overdrive is I can put my name on the hold list for all my favorite writers.... they email me when the book is mine

I discovered my love of reading back when I was learning to read. It has been my companion through my life. I love the story of you and your friend next door reading under the tree. A perfect childhood to my way of thinking.

I am a sucker for bookmarks and they look pretty interesting. And yes, both Miriam and I are frequent visitors to the library.

Hello, remember walking to our local library when I was young. I do love using the online library and downloading the ebooks. It is so easy and they have a great selection. You found a nice collection of children's books. Happy Monday, enjoy your day! Wishing you a great new week ahead.

I love vintage children's books. (And new, too, for that matter.) You have some real treasures here.

Great finds. Please let me know how you like the movie Zoo Keepers Wife. I have not read the book yet, I have it on my list to read.
Did you read Lilac Girls? The author just released her second book, Lost Roses, that is what I have been reading. :-)

I'm jealous of all your good finds at the library sale and the price you paid for all, Diane! My library has sales but they charge $3 for a hardback book and $1 per paperback. Antique books are even more! I do love Eloise Wilkins illustrated children books and have many Golden Books that were illustrated by her.

When I was a child I could also walk to the library. I still go often--it is truly a happy place for me!

I love visiting the library too Diane. When I was a teen my first job besides babysitting was working at our local library in the children's department. I have not used the library in a while since I receive books from my daughter for Christmas.
I hope you have a nice week.

Oh, look at all the children's books you bought! You got many Golden Books, which I love. Were they really 39 cents back in the day, oh my gosh. I didn't realize you enjoyed reading even when you were little. How sweet that you had a best friend who loved to read as well. That is wonderful that you donate some of your children's books to the Hospice House. I think I like reading them more than regular books hehehe. Such a delightful post, Diane.

My heart beat a bit faster just hearing about your book sale :). You found some wonderful books and many of them I recognize from my own collection. I need to get to the library in my new town and get a library card.

Oh a book sale, what fun.
I love libraries too and remember walking up town to the library when I was just a little girl.
Every time we move one of the first things we check out is the library.
I LOVE our small town library. They may not have all the books, but they will get them for you.
I still prefer to have to actual book in my hand to read.

I worked across the parking lot from our main library and never went in it. Shame on me!! What a beautiful thing to do, donating those children's books to the Hospice House. Thank you for that. I have had four family members blessed by Hospice in their final days.

Hooray for libraries! You really were able to snag some great bargains. It's so nice you share your good finds with others. Wendy is a so cute reading. I'm sure she's like you and loves her books. So do I! Have a nice week.

I love Lark Rise to Candleford. I have it too. And Poldark, of course, is great. So are all the books you got, and libraries are wonderful. My dad took me to my first visits. In those days all the books were bound in red binders. This was a large city library in Stockholm. I will never forget our visits there. And what a great way to get a child interested in reading books.

What an amazing collection of books you got at the library! I love the Little Golden books, what a treasure to share with the Hospice you volunteer at! I too love the library, although I don't have much time lately to read, but I spent many an hour there as a child, and while my children were growing up. The movies you got look very good too! Have a great week :)

Diane - I might just have to run downstairs and see if we still have "Good Night, Little Bear". How many times I must have read that to our kids! I also recognized the Night Before Christmas book. Oldies but goodies and worth every penny! I have tried reading books electronically, and it just doesn't work for me - I need to feel the heft of the book and be able to manually turn the pages. Call me old school! I used my library card just last week, and one of the books I checked out is fiction written by a local author about Glacier National Park - loving it! Thanks for linking up to Mosaic Monday!

I love this post and you sure found some great books there! To me...books are treasures. I've always been this way, LOL. Yep, I have a library card and use it regularly. I love to go to the library and the on line service of ordering books is great too for when you don't have time to go in to look. I still love children's books, like you. They are just so nostalgic and bring back memories of the old days and being a little girl. I love to enjoy them and also share them with our granddaughter, I love to read her books that I enjoyed as a child. Hope your week has started off well, hugs, my friend!

Diane, I love libraries too. You found some wonderful books and movies! I spy an Eloise Wilkin book. I just love her illustrations!!

The summertime memories with a little elder friend of yours is a treasure. And your generosity donating such lovely books, too. Young children learn to read and then read to learn soon. I have a couple of public libraries not so far. I went to one of them recently, not only for books but also for cherry blossoms blooming along a river where the library is located. Have happy days ahead.

When Mother told me to go outside and play and get fresh air-I took a book and a blanket and read under the tree!!! I took bags of books home from the bookmobile before the library arrived! I love my library here and read four to five books a week! When I travel I read on IPad/Kindle! I became a teacher in my 40's and until retirement, encouraged the kids to read!!!! Never a waste of time-always learning and tons of fun!!!

What a fun sale. I have such a hard time saying NO to books. I use my library all the time (or did when I had time to read). lol I think it is wonderful that you donate books to the Hospice program. When I quit working that is on my list to volunteer for-along with my beloved VA. xo Diana

No, I haven't used my library card lately and I am ashamed. That is something I can easily fix today when I am on my way to the grocery store. Thanks for the prod.
