Muhly Grass

Or at least that's what I think it is! I always come home from a hike and get the Bird ID books AND Wildflower books out.

And even that doesn't help sometimes.

But looking out into the Halpata Tastanaki Preserve, we saw the most vibrant pink grass!

And I think it is Muhly Grass.

It's amazing at the unusual things you see in the wild.

And things are constantly changing from week to week.

I also saw this one yellow flower that looked different from the others and I think it is St. John's Wort.

I love the pretty flower, don't you?

I take this old shed pretty often. I love the rusty tin with the pretty wildflowers blooming around it right now.

This is a part of an old fence out in the middle of nowhere.

Now for some mosaics!

Thanks for joining me on another Fall hike!

Highs in the 80s this week! Dress accordingly! lol

Is your weather more Fall like?

I'm joining Angie for Mosaic Monday HERE .

I'm linking with All Seasons at the Jesh Studio,

AND my Monday post HERE.

Diane, I like the mosaic of that pink grass. I would not mind having some of that growing here. LOL. We had a day or two with the AC back on. Crazy temps. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

Good pictures. St John's wort, at first I wonder if it's a shrub daffodil. Weather here, Champlain Valley, lower elevation, this morning the windshields were frostyish.

Your photos are beautiful. I love the pink grass. I planted some a few years ago and it never grew. Boo Hoo. That photo of the little old building is really quite lovely with all the wildflowers surrounding it. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

Diane, I have missed your hikes. I love all the soft autumn colors and the vibrant remnants of summer. I think that the shed looks quite promising and would be fun to explore further! I'm your newest follower (once the button works for me. I'm having a small issue with it!) ♥

Looks like the Muhly Grass we had planted out front of the house we built. I id a major relandscaping of the from to honor my Mom in 2014. No longer live there, but nice memories of it.

I don't think of flowers blooming in this time of year but living where you do, I guess that's the norm.

That pink grass sure is pretty! And the tree by the old fence is wonderful, I'd love to give it a big hug! :)

I love the muhly grass. We had it in our last garden and it was always so pretty at this time of year. It looks especially beautiful in your mosaic.

I don't know what I may have imagined that Florida looked like, but never anything like what your pictures show me. You are the first person who has made me interested in visiting your state. I had no idea that nature there was so accessible, interesting, and beautiful.

At first glance I thought your title was mushy grass and I thought what kind of mushy grass has she seen. I love that Pink Grass whatever it's called and it is in a lot of the Yards here lot of people use it in their landscape and I have always wanted some and never got any. Your photos are just gorgeous today those flowers are awesome

I did the same thing Sandra did. I read mushy grass. I thought maybe you had lots of rain...lol It's really pretty. I've never seen anything like that

Oh don’t let those chilly Fall temperatures get you down haha. I’m not too envious (yet) ...it is in the 70s here and the rain stopped yesterday. When I was a little girl I once got a severe lecture (in front of the whole class, boohoo) for coloring the grass red. So every time I see those grasses I channel my inner child and go nyah nyah nyah ,..., ).

I just went back and read the comments on this post! The one from Inger is perfect for your blog. You always describe “the other Florida” so beautifully. What she said is exactly how surprised I was when we first came to Fort Myers for the Winter. So surprised at the beautiful natural areas ... and that’s why we kept coming back!

I've never heard of that kind of grass before, but I've seen the pinkish grasses along the roads in some places and it is so pretty. That yellow flower is lovely...and all your pictures are just wonderful. I love rusty old sheds, especially with wildflowers blooming all around them. Perfect fall scene. Thank you for sharing with us. I look forward to seeing what you will discover next time!

The Muhly grass looks so pretty. That's neat that it's a pink color. Your mosaics are pretty cool. The fence photo is charming, and looks like a post card.

Have a good week, Diane.

ps.....just wanted to tell you that I didn't go to the pumpkin patch. It was just Jess and her family. But it would have been so fun to see that little one's face when running around the pumpkin field. I'm glad I got some pics from Jess though. ; )

Whatever the grass is called, it is beautiful, and so are all of the photos you shared!

Diane - you and I share this love of finding something unfamiliar to us, and then the hunt for identification! Lovely shots, one and all! We have had a sudden change in weather - rain has finally returned, and with it, cooler temps. In fact, there was a dusting of snow on the hills near here this morning! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

That fluffy/frothy pink stuff sure is pretty, whatever it is. It looks very mysterious from a distance doesn't it? Like a pink fog..... That yellow flower sure looks like a cousin to daffodills doesn't it? I loved all the pictures. Hope your week has started off great. Yep...still SO DANG HOT.........HA HA. I'm so ready for a little coolness how about you? I want to open the windows back up to fresh cool breezes and my sweaters and shawls are ready and waiting........ hugs!!

Grass and flower is beautiful. And so is the old shed. I have a place like that but it is too destroyed nowadays and not fun to photograph any more. :( The forest takes over it.
Love your mosaics :)

Our plants are beginning to wither. It's that time of year!

I think maybe some people take St. Johns Wort as a supplement for depression (don't quote me on that). But I'm thinking the pretty bright yellow of the flower is enough to cheer me!

Beautiful Mosaics, Diane!

We may have a wintery mix by the weekend. ;-)

Muhly grass is so pretty. I've never seen anything like pink grass. It would be beautiful in a landscaped garden. So glad you are out hiking again. We've had a day of wild wind and lashing rain. It's not very warm here. I'm glad to be tucked up on the couch with a fire burning!
Have a good week, Diane.
