The Mystery Bird is a Mourning Dove

 Well, I know it's a Dove....

but what kind of Dove is it? It's a Mourning Dove!
Thanks to all the experts for the help!

We couldn't get a different view of him...he sat very still!

We see the Mourning Dove frequently here in Florida.

And sometimes we have this cute little Ground Dove visit our feeders.

But when we were at the Pruitt Trailhead the other day we spotted this pretty soft brown dove on the fence rail. I have a couple of ideas but I'll leave it open for your suggestions and hopefully be able to come back and put an ID on it later.
The weather is perfect for hiking right now and it's something I can do even with a headache! Thanks for the sweet comments on my owl post and for your concern over my headaches. I'll keep you posted! I know you can't wait to hear if I have a headache today. I'll ask my hubby! hahahaha! (and they can't be ALL that bad if I'm laughing and hiking)

Big flocks of Sandhill Cranes are still flying overhead and we put out an extra feeder in our courtyard this week. The little Chipping Sparrows, Bluebirds, Warblers and finches are in abundance.

I was standing very close to this Black and White Warbler.

Have you had a good 'critter' week too?

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

no idea from me, i can only tell a cardinal from a jay, that is pretty much it. he/she is really sweet and oh so cute. I love doves and their cooing noises. sorry the headache is hanging on, I once had slight headaches almost all day for a couple of months, they finally went away, i guessed them to be sinus related..

About your headaches, has anything changed in your diet? A friend told me years ago, her doctor ordered an allergy testing. Turns out she was allergic to her favorite sandwich.
Pretty photos. I hope somebody knows what dove it is.

That dove has a beautiful light brown color. I do not think I have seen one like it. Lots of gray ones in our area but this one is a sight to see.

It could be that the light makes a difference - early morning or late afternoon light sometimes gives a kind of glow that fools the eye. I think it is a Mourning Dove facing the sun. The wings have the color and look usually associated with Mourning Doves.
Have a blessed day!

you marked it mourning dove, i think, or perhaps that is one of your guesses. it is a mourning dove, exactly like the ones i see here!!

i have so many birds at my feeders, especially today. it is cold and raining here...a real nasty day. it is suppose to clear up later, i hope it does!!

i hope the headaches have gotten better. stay safe, be well and have a wonderful weekend!!

Hello Diane,

Pretty captures of all the Doves. I think the Ground Dove is sweet, it has a pretty beak. I am taking a guess at your first dove and say Eurasian Collared Dove, may be a first year? The B&W Warbler is a great sighting and photo. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thanks for leaving me a comment.

such a sweet bird the dove. Of course I don't know what kind of dove it is, but I so enjoy its picture. And all the rest of them too.

All of our weeks are good critter weeks, I suppose. Nothing new but the same critters that live here & share our woods with us. We're all residents on this land, co-existing in harmony, as we wait out this virus. We're all safe and that's the only thing that matters, isn't it. I love your pictures so much, my friend. Thank you for posting them and I continue to pray about your headaches. ~Andrea xoxo

It's definitely a mourning dove. It'd say it is the sunlight that is confusing you by color.

Thanks for sharing your post with us at IRBB this week.

No matter the dove, it's lovely.

Ps...ya, it could also be in breeding plumage. Doves have broods/mate two or three times a year.

Interesting. All I see here are mourning doves. I love their cry.

Have you considered a "juvie" of your Ground Dove?...jp

No idea on the sweet little brown dove.

As for your question regarding critters...squirrels, millions and zillions of squirrels. 😣

I enjoy the dove families. We've about 15 mourning doves here. Once-in-awhile the pigeons from the nearby farm visit.

It's probably a female mourning dove. Doves come in gray and brown. Did you know that doves and pigeons are the same family. Doves are a bit smaller than the pigeons. Your photos are wonderful. Enjoy your hiking, hugs, Edna B.

First, I totally love your 'Elf' in the ice cream cup...header...so cute!
We have 3 pair of doves (mourning) living out in the spruce trees. They along with the squirrels keep our little bird feeders' piazza clear. They are so sweet and practically tame now. In the winter they often visit on the porch and under the furniture if it is terrible vial out.
Love all your photos---we have heard cranes still forming flocks for going south...just this week. When they are high in the air, they look the same as geese, but the chittering?? cry is pretty distinct. It will be mild again---I do hope they leave quickly for this mildness can't hold forever, Hugs, Sandi

I knew that was a Mourning Dove right away. I used to see them all the time up north. They are a very special bird, and I believe they are a bird of peace. They used to visit me often, and I especially loved it when I was having a bad day or troubled about something and needed peace. They always brought it. His little face on your photos even looks peaceful. Oh, what a special bird, indeed. Thank you for sharing, Diane.
