What's in the swamp?

The swamp is beautiful in Blue Run Park!

The Cypress trees are magnificent and on the surface of the water are thousands of duckweed plants.

It gives the impression that the swamp has slime but it is alive and well.

It was interesting to see the Green Heron in the swamp.

But what made it unusual was seeing it fly and jump from one cypress knee to another.

That's a cypress knee with the orange on top.

It's simply a structure growing above the roots and serves as a perch for all kinds of birds and critters.

We tried to keep up with this Green Heron.

But it finally said, HEY, you're crowding me and flew further into the swamp.

And this Wood duck seems to be saying something to the turtles.

Like.....TRY to keep up!

Talked to any birds this week?

Join us for Saturday critters and birds!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

You make a swamp look beautiful in your photographs.
No bulging eyes above the water is a pleasure to not see. :)
Heat has kept curtain closed from bird watching.

Hello,

I enjoyed your swamp images. I always love seeing the Green Heron. It is funny seeing the head on view of the Green Heron. Cute images of the turtles with the Wood Duck! Wonderful photos from your walk. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend! PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.

Alligators!

Yes, the swamp does look as if it is coated with slime, algae is probably the better word.
The green is a pretty gree, though.

You'd not catch me very close to that spot unless I was in a vehicle.

What great photos! You are amazing with your nature photography and I really appreciate it! I didn't know about cypress knees and I've never seen a green heron. YOu wouldn't think anything could live in that water. Are there any fish? I bet there's alligators though! Be careful...they're fast!

Beautiful shots of the heron. Swamps are intriguing. I think I might be afraid to go near one. I always think snakes are lurking. :)

your photos took me along on the trip. Wondering if the eco system of the swamp creates mosquitoes or keeps them down with birds and critters to eat them?

I've never seen a swamp. This is so interesting.

And, yes, yesterday a pair of ravens were sitting in in my backyard for a very long time. They nuzzled each other, and looked like they were having a deep conversation about life. I went away and when I returned later, they were still there, so I said, just that: Are you still here?

Those are some GREAT pictures of the Green Heron and the turtles and the duck. Love them all. Amazing that they love that slimy looking green swamp! I don't think I'd want to get that close! Be my luck to fall in and the gators would think this was their lucky day! LOL.

Hi Diane. I'll be ready for you to pick me up at 0600. Be sure to wear your racing suit as I'm s fast driver. Meanwhile those Green Heron are cool guys and we could do with some to clean out our own swamps. Take care of my Jeep.

Beautiful photos, Diane. I love the green colour of the swamp in the first photos, almost milky. I spoke to a dark-eyed junco this morning who was in my garden under the hydrangea bush and welcomed him back - they tend to go elsewhere in the summer and return in the fall. I asked him if it wasn't a bit too early for him to be here. He just gave me a saucy look and hopped off.

The swamp looks like a peaceful place to visit. You have captured the birds beautifully, especially the Green Heron!

I have not spoken to any birds this week but I did speak to a black snake and a nest of wasps (don't ask what I said!!).

The green surface of the water is a strange sight. I've been to that location and marveled at it. I have to say I prefer clear spring water so I know what's down underneath.

What a cute little Green Heron. Love the close up of him. That's a terrific picture. I like the one of his hair sticking up hehehe. Those turtles are quite a sight too! The cypress knee is interesting, and it is a nice place for the birds to rest on. That's a cool one of him looking straight on. : )
