I'm going to describe this past week as 'exciting'!
Eastern Meadowlark
We worked on some projects and when everything came together, we went hiking!
Palm Warbler
Some of the usual tasks went undone but isn't it nice when you have interesting places to go and don't have time to tackle all of the 'ordinary' chores.
(possibly a female Blue Grosbeak)
And that brings me to the bird trees.
Phoebe
We've found over the years of hiking that birds flock together along the trail. All different types of birds and all flitting around from tree to tree in one area!
And right now we are seeing some familiar birds return to Florida.

We are also seeing some we are having trouble identifying.

They don't always make it easy either! lol
We connect my computer to our big screen TV to view our photos. And then we sit with our collection of bird books but still have trouble making a positive ID on some of them. Especially the Warblers.

I would love to have a good ID for the Warbler above!

I'm sharing what we saw on just one hike at Halpata Tastanaki Preserve from the Pruitt Trailhead.
We got a quick photo of these Sandhill Cranes at the end of the hike! Do you see them above the tree line?

I read hurricanes can push birds where they aren't usually seen. Birds watch other birds to ID food sources. Sort of like seeing a lot of semis at a restaurant shows you the food is good there.
Yes, the birds are leaving daily. Can't wait for the vultures to go. Glad that they are arriving there daily. I like thinking of them having a nice time in Florida over these cold fall and winter months up north. Those sandhill cranes are def flying under the radar.

Great idea to put your photos on your tv, and be better able to identify them.

I don't know if you have birds we don't have or I'm just totally non-observant! But I always see wonderful ones I've heard of but not seen before on your posts and your pix are always great!
i do see the cranes, it is a nice image!!! i can't help to id the warbler, i hope someone else can. what a great outing you sure did see a lot of exciting birds.

Neat photos--and I too have trouble sometimes figuring out birds even with 2 bird books!!!! And I have my computer hooked up to my TV screen too--have been doing that for about 10 years now--so much nicer than trying to see and do things on a small 14 inch computer screen!!!

Such beautiful birds!! You do get some great pictures of them on your walks. I'm not sure about that last bird. He almost looks like some type of Vireo because of the eyes. But I'm not sure. I haven't seen a Meadowlark in so many years. They are so beautiful, and I love to hear them sing. Thank you for sharing these beauties with us!!

The bird you are unable to identify is a Common Yellowthroat. It is not in full breeding attire at this time of the year.

Those Warblers are difficult to ID. I'm glad you got help from reliable sources. That would count me out, and I usually ask Phil for help. :=) Beautiful capture of the Eastern Meadow Lark, and Common Yellow Throat, and also the Cranes that you just managed to capture before they flew out of sight. Dusting can wait, but you may not see the birds you saw on your hike again, so the outdoors was, and I guess will always be a better choice.

I really enjoyed seeing all your photos of the beautiful birds in Florida from your hikes. I just arrived (in Florida) and look forward to an in person view myself, but I am never able to capture the good photos the way you do!
So many beautiful birds, thank you for sharing these great photos. You reminded me of the Western Meadowlark, such a beautiful bird that used to come here for the summers and sing beautiful songs for me. I haven't seen it for a couple of years now. Most birds and animals have disappeared due to our, by now, pretty scary drought.
I'm a little late with my visit as my Internet has been down all day Sunday. But I agree with Common Yellowthroat. I also agree that IDing your North American warblers is much more difficult in autumn than in the springtime.

Wow so many bird photos here. I love warbler and yellow throat a lot. I could not get proper photos of them here.
I love seeing the cranes above the trees. I had never seen a Sandhill Crane until this past summer, when we saw them in the Arctic, where they breed in summer. Beautiful birds.
I am hoping you weren't impacted by the typhoon that hit Florida which we saw on the TV news. We have extensive flooding on our eastern seaboard right now. It is good to forget the chores and get out and about. Enjoy your week ahead, stay safe.

Bird trees are great when you find them. And you found some good ones!
The bird in images 2, 6 and 7 is a Palm Warbler. They present a challenge as during migration we see two subspecies: "Yellow" and "Western". Yours is the "Western" in non-breeding plumage and looks pretty plain except for that yellow under its tail. A good tip that it may be a Palm Warbler is to watch for its almost continual tail-pumping.

Hi Diane! All very pretty birds and I'm sure they had a beautiful song, too! I am not good with bird ID--I downloaded the Cornell Ornithology Bird app on my phone, but don't get good enough photos to ID what I see on the app...lol! We see mainly crows and magpies here this time of year.
I always enjoy seeing your bird photos, but the photo of the cranes are truly something else! :D
