Reverse ‘Tweaking’!

Step into the garage and we’ll do a quick project.

Oh….sorry….I didn’t take pics of the in between and lucky for you, there’s no audio recording of me struggling with silk leaves and Fall candles splitting in two.

You’ll just have to use your imagination like I did. Stick the Fall leaves here, there and everywhere in the vine and then place the Fall candle on these spikey things.

HHHmmmmm….you say the leaves were falling every which away in your imagination? And the candle split in 3 or 4 pieces? Funny, that’s what I imagined, too! hahaha!

So we’re back to square one.

A wire looking candle holder bird cage thingy that looks like it has possibilities….like the possibility that it is going back to the thrift store.

(and no, I haven’t thrown anything away…YET!)

Any ideas?

Florida’s Gulf Coast

We took a little day trip to the Gulf Coast last weekend and it was so nice to get out and see the sights.

It was hard to choose just a few photos to share.

I took a couple into Picmonkey and put a weave on them to make them look like art on a canvas.

Answers to some Questions

What is the meaning of life?

Or maybe what is this squirrel holding in his arms?

I LOVE all of my comments and I’m so happy when someone takes enough interest to ask me a question. I’m just not always very good at remembering to answer that question. I usually think, I’ll answer it when I have more time…..not sure when that will ever happen! haha!

So here goes…..

Do I make the dolls I have? No, I buy them. I’ve shopped at a HUGE doll shop in Greensboro,NC called Doll Market and that’s where I’ve bought most of them. I also visited the Lee Middleton store and Lloyd Middleton shop and factory (when he was alive). And yes, I still have all the dolls I’ve shown on my blog over the years. I have over 100 dolls.

When do I have time to read? I read every night for 2 or 3 hours before I go to bed. And when I am reading a really good book, I pick it up and read some during the day, too.

How much did the books cost at the book sale? I bought 20 books for $13. (they were all $1 each except a few of the children’s books were 50 cents)

How many bookcases do I have? 9 large bookcases and 8 shorter bookcases.

Are the children’s books in the bookcases from my childhood? No.

Do I ever read them? Yes.

Is there a character from Toy Story on a shelf? Yes, Jessie…the cowgirl. Is that a Greek doll in the other corner of that shelf? I think it is Little Red Riding Hood.

Are the ice skates in my size? No, they are size 5…a little small for me.

Can I ice skate? OH MY NO!!! I can’t even roller skate! I just wanted the skates to put with some greenery at Christmas for decoration.

Are there places to ice skate in Florida? YES…quite a few.

How many thrift stores do I shop at? 3… but I don’t go to garage sales or estate sales.

WHEW!

If you’re still with me now. Here’s the answer to the second question. (you’ll have to figure out the first one on your own)

I got the idea to do this from Nana Diana. She answered questions on her blog! But she is MUCH braver than I am. I didn’t agree to answer any and ALL questions! haha!

Literary Friday “Book Sale Books”

Our local library started their Fall Book Sale yesterday and I was in line when it opened.

 

It’s always so much fun to look through hundreds of books, with dozens of people.

We have a BIG coffee table so I thought I would spread my ‘new’ books out to see.

I still managed to miss a couple. (I got 3 Janet Evanovich books that are already on the shelf)

And I bought 2 books that I am taking back! lol

So do you think I checked out a book to read this next week? Of course I did!

My blog buddy, Laura at I’m so Vintage mentioned this author a few days ago and I wanted to read it next. Thanks girlfriend for the recommendation.

And here’s a sneak peek at the pumpkin I made.

 

It just doesn’t look right to me and I’m not going to cut my velvet until I figure out a better way to make one!

A ‘Quick Little Project’?

How can a little project take all afternoon?

I had some pretty tapestry fabric that I bought in the remnant bin at a fabric shop to make new scarves for our night stands.

Here’s the beige one in the ‘before’ photo.

(I made these a long time ago)

I’m pleased with the way they turned out and happy with the pretty red it brings into my bedroom for Fall.

But why did it take all afternoon?!

Maybe because it was fuzzy! I had fuzz all over everything, including myself!

I had to wash what I was wearing, clean and vacuum the sewing room (wearing another outfit! lol).

So my little project took all afternoon to accomplish.

Wifey found the skatesies…Hubby ‘made’ the lacesies!

You can tell by the title that we spend too much time together! And we go a little bit crazzzie!

But you can imagine how EXCITED I was to find these gorgeous ice skates at the old junky thrift store. (I haven’t done a post on that store yet)

I had hoped to find some good roller skates to store in my box but these were even better!

Of course I didn’t pay a whole lot for the skates and they really needed new laces.

Hubby bought red parachute cord and made new laces for them!

Are they AMAZING?

(this is not a rhetorical question…hee hee)

My hubby is pretty amazing, too!

Happy Autumn comes to Florida

Even though it’s still hot here and the air conditioner is still running, I’m ready to decorate for Fall.

I worked on a shelf above some of my vintage children’s books and made a little ‘owl vignette’.

Literary Friday is Mysterious!

I’ve been on a mystery kick and checked this book from the library just because of it’s cover and guess what? It was very good AND very funny! It only took me two nights to read it and I loved the main character. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Last night I started this mystery. It’s a little more involved and will be great to read this weekend.

Mice and Pumpkins…Mice OR Pumpkins!

I was supposed to make pumpkins this week!

I have the most beautiful piece of brown velvet that I got at the thrift store last week. But instead, I sat down and made another mouse! lol

He’s holding his very own pumpkin, too!

(hey I got a pumpkin into my post! lol)

And I started crocheting tiny hearts.

They are fun and I’m going to make more!

But right now….

I have a velvet pumpkin to make!

I had so much fun visiting the ladies at Crossroads Thrift Shop last week!

 

(I actually went TWICE! lol)

They were celebrating their one year anniversary and serving snacks and even a full lunch every day!

When you stop by this shop, there is always a pot of coffee and drinks ready AND snacks!

It was fun taking photos of the store

and they had their new brochures to share.

So what did I buy?

All of these neat things and a few more goodies that I’ll share later.

 

Thanks to all these lovely ladies for always making your shop the friendliest place in town!
