Time to get the blankets out for the winter time weather! Even here in Florida! It’s what we consider COLD here today! Only in the high 50s with a HIGH wind!
My girlfriend, Marfi came up with this idea to do posts every week in November with a book and a blanket. Her blog is HERE and she’s even having a giveaway this week.
I bought this Bob Timberlake ‘Cardinal’ throw at a consignment shop a couple of years ago and it’s perfect to snuggle up with.
I got the book at a thrift store awhile back and I’m going to start reading it this week. I love this author so I know I’ll enjoy it.
And recently I found another Matt and Shari book. I was thrilled! Their show Room by Room was my very favorite program when I first started watching HGTV. I wish they had more decorating and craft shows now, don’t you?
This looks like a cute project. So many of their ideas are still popular and in style.
I’m joining Thrifty Things Friday!
Also Katherine’s Corner,
Jann for Share Your Cup
and Home Sweet Home.
Do you have a favorite throw
or lap quilt for the winter time season?
UPDATE:
I don’t know if anyone will come back to look at this update but I really wanted to add some of the names of the HGTV shows that were mentioned in the comments. It seems like we ALL miss the decorating and craft shows that made HGTV so popular in the beginning. It would be great if they brought these back…shows like Room by Room, Carol Duval, Kitty Bartholomew, Decorating Cents with Joan Steffend, Peter Walsh, and ' Aleene's creative living'.
Dorothy’s comment I so agree with, “I miss Carole Duval and her Christmas Specials!”
And one more that I just thought of, Christopher Lowell. I learned a lot from his show!
And I liked Lynette Jennings, too, Becky! She was such a beautiful lady with style.
Any others that you can think of?
Wouldn’t it be great if HGTV heard us?

Don't you just miss Matt & Sherri? And Kitty Bartholomew? Those were the days!
I used to watch Room By Room too but no longer have cable :(
Even though you might think differently because I live in Canada, about the only time I use a blanket is when I go to bed. I have throws in the livingroom and family room but very rarely ever use them. Keep warm! Hah!!
I love the idea of a blanket and a book ! It is chilly at my house too!
I do miss Matt and Sherry and the other garden and craft shows that HGTV used to run. Add a cup of not tea to your book and blanket and you have a great evening.
Love your blanky...I have met Matt and Sherry in person and got a picture with them. I absolutely loved that show and the one with Joan Stafford(decorating cents)...I miss the good old days of HGTV. Some times if Ted and I are out and it's cold, I'll say I need a cappucino and a blanky.:):) Blessings for a good day. xoxo,Susie
Seeing the book with Matt & Sherry was a Blast from the Past! My girls and I watched it every Saturday night; commenting on the styles and the ideas. Add some cookies to the cup of tea, book and blanket--I'm in! XOXO
It's very chilly here, but I'm heading out the door soon to do a little browsing at flea markets/antique shops. I always love finding a great book! Room by Room was one of my favorite shows. I wish they would bring back some of those programs instead of showing House Hunters and some others over and over again! Enjoy your blanket and book!
When I had cable tv I was hooked on those shows, and Carol Duvall (I just found one of her books!) and Peter Walsh and his organizing/redecorating shows.
I also like Susanna Kearsley but have not read her books for a while. I took on Cozy Mysteries for the summer.
My favorite throw or comforter - I have several. The warmest one is a lap throw filled with faux down, a think a fiber fill? It was my dad's for dialysis and I feel connected to him when I settle in under it.
It's the best time of the year to snuggle with a comfy blanket and a good book!! I just came across your blog and I invite you to link up to our blog hop-link party! We are hosting for the first time and want to meet new blog friends! Hope to see you there!

A book and a blanket sounds like a great way to spend a day to keep warm and entertained. I have a fleece throw with butterflies on it, well used during the winter months. I've not heard of Matt & Sherry but I do miss many of the previous shows from HGTV.
I've never watched 'room by room'
I do remember watching ' Aleene's creative living'
Did you ever see that one?
I have a navy blue velour blanket that is warm
As soon as you touch it.
That is my absolute favorite blanket... Unfortunately,
It's not very chilly here at the moment.
Our high today will be 82, but once the sun goes
Down, we cool off pretty good;)
Thank you for visiting and participating...
Your blanket looks super cozy!
It has been in the high 30s for the last two days with a light mist. I so don't want to turn my heater on.
It blanket and light the fireplace time at least for the next few days.
Smiles, Dottie
Haha, wimps! It was 28 here this morning when we got up at 5:30 a.m. And it's a balmy 31 degrees now. Thank goodness for flannel sheets at night, LOL! I use a lap robe all year long. It's a wonderful handwoven one purchased in Ireland many years ago.
I really miss the craft shows on HGTV. They used to have a lot of them, and I was a faithful viewer. But now it all seems to be about real estate and they are boring! So it's not a channel I even flip through anymore.
Aww I love the idea of book and blanket always...
Sweet hugs x
i've had 2 fires this week and had to turn on the heat here in texas, too. and i got out my throw for the couch. :)
The Book and a Blanket idea is a good one!
Gorgeous blanket! Have a cozy afternoon with your book!
The log fire gives out so much heat that we don't need blankies,besides...the cats have them all!
Jane x
Why, yes, I do! It's the most ugly, beige fleece one could ever imagine, but cozy to the max. Love your cozy throw and pretty, too! Thanks for your sweet comment today...much appreciated and wouldn't it be fun?!
Hi there, I haven't heard of that author, Kearsley, I am going to try her! And yes, I used to love the crafting shows on HGTV, wish they hadn't gotten away from those.. I miss Carole Duval and her Christmas Specials!
Have a great WARM weekend!
Dorothy
I used to love watching Room by Room with Matt and Shari. HGTV is just not like it used to be, is it? Thanks so much for popping in to see me and I'm glad you like my felties. No, I don't have any patterns. I found my inspiration on Pinterest looking at felt ornaments and just copied the ones I liked.
be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I use a blue throw when I get the chance to snuggle on the sofa.
I use to love watching Matt and Sherry on HGTV!!
I always liked Room by Room too. I love your book and a blanket! I have my favorites that I like to curl up in. I just picked up a couple of new thrifted books. Maybe I'll do a post like that one of these days.
I have a crochet blue, brown and cream throw that I love. I found a great Christmas quilt with trains on it for Tiger. I will give it to him this year.
I still love home/craft project shows. My husband and I are addicted to hgtv. Some of my favorites blankets are the crochet blankets rescued at estate sales.
It seems everyone here misses the craft shows on HGTV like Matt, Sherry, Kitty, Carol, and Joan. Maybe we need to start telling the channel that - I am tired of real estate shows. It was so chilly here in South Carolina, I went back to bed with a good book and a quilt or two.
Oh-to be in the 50'S!!!!! lol
I am not happy at all with HGTV anymore. I don't watch it like I once did-it is not nearly as good- xo Diana
A book and a blanket does seem appropriate in this cool weather we're having in AR too. It doesn't stay warm like FL but it usually doesn't get this cold this fast! LOL! But it's warming up again I hear. I've not heard of that authoress but I belong to Good Reads too so I'll have to look her up since you like her. Where do you live when you're not in FL? I thought you lived there all year. Love the prairie and hiking pictures too!
Oh my I love Joan Steffend so much. She did the White House Christmas special a few years and I really miss her! Thanks for linking to TTF!
I rarely watch HGTV anymore once it turned into selling homes. It is just too much of that. I wish they would come back to the craft shows and decorating your home ideas. Especially for the holidays.
Stay warm!
hugs,
Pat
Oh I used to love the shows on HGTV..but they just aren't as good now. I haven't been able to find any craft shows at all.
Whew... 50 here this time of year is warm wind or not!
It's supposed to warm up by Sunday but it has been frigid. Love your birdie blanket.

I loved Kitty Bartholomew. She was so creative. Wonder what happen to her????

Hi Diane! Fun post! And I agree with you and everyone else. HGTV has turned into a real estate show! I liked all those shows mentioned, too. Christopher Lowell was the second decorator I saw, and the first was Lynette Jennings. Do you remember her? I guess she was on that same channel. Her style wasn't really mine, but I learned a lot from her.
oh yes it would, I miss them too!!
I really liked Lynnette Jennings ...she taught me how to reupholster my hassock and now it needs help again. I also liked Christopher Lowell even if I blame him for the Volkswagens I have for furniture. Time for an update any day now.
Snuggling up with a book and blanket - one of life's simple pleasures :) Happy weekend to you, sweet lady!
I remember all those shows, but I don't watch HGTV as much as I use to...it isn't the same anymore.
Hugs,
Cindy
Oh my goodness! I so agree! I miss all those shows! HGTV changed so much as did Food Network. Those crafting shows were such amazing tutorials. LOVE THEM! Now the only thing I watch on HGTV is House Hunters cause I like to see houses in different states. However even that is getting old..frustrates me when people are complaining they may have to paint a room or pull out a rug! hahahaha Maggie
What a pretty throw that is!! :)
I may well curl up with a book and a blanket later having read this post.
Hi there, YES it would be so great if HGTV would bring back those kinds of shows again! I've heard other women say this too.
And guess what book just came in with a bag of donated books to the library? It wasn't "The Firebird", but it was "The Rose Garden" by Susanna Kearsley!! Now I can try out that author! :-)
Have a great weekend my friend,
Dorothy
Matt and Shari!! I remember...I loved watching them! Thanks for that memory! :)
My favorite old HGTV show was HOME with Mary Emmerling. I did love all of the others too, of course!
I love your Cardinal throw.
I came to HGTV late so didn't get a chance to see those shows (although I know who the people are). But there were a lot of good shows when I first started watching that aren't on anymore.
I don't have a blanket, but a quilt I curl up with when I am reading. It is chilly in my house and I need something.
I do a lot of reading with my book club friends and once a month we get together over brunch and coffee to discuss the book we just read . We recently read a good one called The Light Between Oceans. very interesting. It brought up many emotions, as I read it.
I do use blankets to cuddle up on chilly day to read too. I love the barn cabinet idea you showed what a cute idea.
We don't own a television so I rarely watch HGTV, but I remember Kitty Bartholomew and Carole Duval. I go to HGTV when I am on a machine at the racquet club walking to nowhere. I never seem to find the great shows that I used to see there.
I remember Room by Room! I loved HGTV back then...Kitty Bartholomew, Mary Emmerling, I miss those shows!
Blessings,
Cindy
I used to love Room by Room. Don't watch too much HGTV anymore. Love your throw. I use my quilts for my throws. xo Laura
I do have a favorite warm and snugly blanket, which I've been using quite a bit!
I used to love Christopher Lowell! He was so entertaining!
Susan
Hi Diane, what a great idea for a book and a blanket. Love your throw with the cardinals. I enjoyed that show Room by Room too. Also Decorating Cents was a good one. None like those anymore.
And you don't see much decorating with vintage. I miss those programs.
Thank you for stopping by and your kind comment.
Have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy your book too.
Hugs

Hi Diane..
I love your afghan..it looks so cuddly and warm.
My bedroom furniture is by Bob Timberlake and it's gorgeous! Looks like something that would be in a cabin in the woods. You've seen in on my blog probably.
I miss all of those shows so much, now it's all about real estate and home improvement. Carol Duval, Aleene's Creative Living and Lynette Jennings were the shows I loved the and that got me started crafting years ago. Please listen HGTV! Enjoy you snuggly blanket and your book, Deb
yes I miss those shows as well
Love a book with a blanket...and a movie too. ;) My husband and I were talking about making a movie room when we move to our permanent home.
I remember Matt and Shari, cute couple, and Christopher Lowell was a favorite too. My favorite designer on HGTV is Candice Olson host of Divine Design. I think her work is spectacular. Also like Dear Genevieve and Property Brothers.
Always fun stopping by, friend.
xoxo
a book and a blankie is always a good combo. add a feline and you've got the perfect mix. ;<)
happy weekend Diane.
Oh yes, the good old days for us all. Such a sweet time to reflect upon. I have some treasured quilts that were Mom's that I have saved and finally decided to use:)
Hugs,
Jemma
I know Marfi too! OK gotta say this since you brought it up. I use to watch HGTV all the time when they had the crafting and decorating shows but not now. Everything is about buying and selling houses and I never go there anymore. My QTT was on book reading too.
Have a good one, Lynnie
I too no longer watch HGTV..I Loved the old shows more than I like these rehab shows...I wish they would at least put on maybe a throw back show where once a day/week they spotlight one of the past hosts doing something today...I'd watch for sure...How about you?????
We used to do a program in one of the schools I worked in called Books and Blankets. It would be on a Friday evening once a month and the kids would come in their pyjamas and with their favourite blanket to listen to stories, then watch a movie (with a popcorn treat of course). It was lots of fun.
I miss any type of gardening show and I think the G in HGTV should be taken out ... no Gardening shows at all!!!

Oh my sweet friend, we had snow today! Thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop. ♥
I loved "Room by Room" and Carol Duvall's show--they were the best!
Oh yes I so miss Carole Duval's christmas specials. where are the craft shows?? Room by Room? loved them all. you would think they would bring them back for a christmas special or something.
I had to put a blanket on the bed but now it's back to our normal Florida weather.. color me happy :)
This cardinal throw is lovely. It looks so warm and cozy. It's just one more thing we have in common, my friend. I like cardinals too. I just bought a black top at Kohl's with a red cardinal on it. It's such a pretty bird to me.
Love,
~Sheri
I have never watched this, but I love curling up with a blanket! In fact I have one on me know as I type on my laptop. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Whenever I use the word fabulous I think of Christopher Lowell. I do miss those shows.
