Literary Friday ‘Holiday Decorating’!

The first thing I do to start decorating is put my Christmas music books on the piano!

(and it wouldn’t hurt to practice a bit! haha)

I don’t have many things from my childhood but I do still have my Golden Book hymnals!

If they look old…they are! heehee!

They bring back so many happy memories!

I have my Christmas music books on the piano now.

My most favorite Christmas carol is Silver Bells

but I enjoy playing them all at this time of year!

I’m joining Ricki Jill for Literary Friday .

(are these literary, Ricki Jill?)

What is your favorite Christmas carol?

(and can you play the piano or sing?)

Your childhood golden books are precious. Enjoy this magical season ahead! Josie and I will need to pull out some of our favorite Christmas books this weekend too.

I love your little Golden Books Diane. They are sweet keepsakes for you. I used to play the piano years ago but leave that up to my hubby now. I do sing in our choir though and have been in choirs since I was a little girl. I'm an alto although started as a soprano and switched when in my teens when I realized I really couldn't hit those high notes. :) Hugs, Pam

I wish I had some of my older music books but they must have got lost in one of our moves. I enjoy playing Christmas carols too, my favourite is O Holy Night. Too bad I can't sing! :-)
Your childhood books are sweet Diane.

How great to have your "old" books. They're so cute. Isn't it funny to see your handwriting too? I have some interesting signatures in some of my "old" books.

That's a great idea for Christmas decorating!

That's wonderful that you have your childhood books! I have a few of mine and really treasure them. I also use old song books to decorate my piano -- they are actually little pamphlets that were given out by businesses and have Christmas carols in them and the most beautiful covers and illustrations :)

Of course your song books are literary ... and wonderful treasures to have. I shared an old childhood favourite of mine last week. The only way I can carry a tune is in a bucket!!! But that doesn't always stop me from singing along with the CD's.

What wonderful memories you must have with your childhood books. I seem never to have had any. Maybe that's why I so love to have books now.

Love your Little Golden Books - I have the Hymns one although it wasn't mine, it's thrifted.

I wish I could play the piano, I did take lessons but not for long enough....

Ohhh!! I remember the gold bindings on those books. Alas, none have been saved!! So precious!

Sweet Christmas Carol books! Yes, I play the piano and sing...usually all alone and behind closed curtains. Ha! How about you?

I like Dwight Yoakum's version of Silver Bells. It's such a happy song.

I love to listen to Christmas music. I have been playing Christmas music for several weeks....I love "do you see what I see" and "walking in a Winter Wonderland"... I guess I really do not have a favorite.... I do not play....one of my greatest regrets...Have a great one. Blessings!

Oh my goodness, those Golden books and your music books are gorgeous! My hubby sold the old piano when we had to move. I am still sad, I have no musical talent whatsoever but the kids loved it! Sigh! Love, love, love, this post!

I won't say they look old, they look well loved.

I also decorate with great books from my childhood.

I have a bunch of Christmas books I set out at Christmas too. I really like your music book in the photo that is second and third from the bottom. It reminds me of one I had as a child. I loved it! I still have it but it's starting to fall apart. I just may set it out anyway. Happy Holidays!

Your little Golden Books looked well loved, not old. I don't play the piano, but always enjoy Christmas music. My fav is O Holy Night...you don't want to hear me sing it though, lol.

I cannot play any instruments or sing at all, which is too bad because I love music but I am decidedly tone deaf. It is hard to pick a favorite Christmas song but "So This Is Christmas" and "silver Bells" are pretty high on my list.

My mom used to drive me nuts with Silver Bells. We grew up in a small Alabama town outside of Birmingham, and she's always sing "It's Christmas time in the city, and in the country, too!"

:/

I can play the piano, but I absolutely cannot sing….but I'm not tone-deaf….there's just a disconnect between my brain and voice!

I sold my piano because I rarely played it, and I wanted more room in our home for my art studio, something I do enjoy!

My favorite Christmas songs are O Holy Night and All I Want for Christmas Is You. :D

This post has made me smile this morning…I love the little Golden books!

Thanks for linking-up to Literary Friday!

RJ

I think it is special to have a selection of books you unpack just at Christmas time. We used to do this when the girls were young, they must be still packed away somewhere I guess!

I can remember gathering around my Grandma's piano and listening to her play. Unfortunately I can't play and my singing is nice to dogs, however my mum can play ANY instrument and she doesn't read music! She listens to something, sees someone play an instrument and it just sticks. Fantastic! xx

The Little Golden Books DO bring back wonderful childhood memories! They must have used the same illustrator for all their books -- the girls and boys have the cherry cheeks and large eyes - always perfect looking!! But love the books!

What an easy decorating tip--I could do that. I can play the piano, but don't sing on key which doesn't bother me but really bugs people around me if I try to sing. My favorite carol is Joy to the World.
