It hasn’t felt much like winter here but the trees are loosing their leaves at Blue Run Park in Dunnellon.
It takes a frost and some cooler temps for the trees to change color here in Florida. The Bald Cypress is the tree that looks the most beautiful.
“Although many conifers are evergreen, bald cypress trees are deciduous conifers that shed their needlelike leaves in the fall. In fact, they get the name “bald” cypress because they drop their leaves so early in the season. Their fall colors are tan, cinnamon, and fiery orange.” Quote HERE!
This Anhinga is perched on Cypress trees and you can see the how pretty they look just before they go ‘bald’!
Even the back of his neck looks neat!
We also saw a Juvenile White Ibis on this hike and that was exciting!
He will eventually look like this, all white!
Let’s keep hiking this year!
You never know what we might see!
I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE
and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Do trees ever lose their foliage in Florida? I would have flunked that question prior to reading your post. Yes, keep hiking...
Enjoyed the hike and the info about the trees. Also loved seeing the birds.
Hello. You have so wonderful birds there. Have a great weekend!
I sure enjoyed seeing all the green. Looking forward to spring. Also liked seeing the birds. Nice post!
Love the pictures. Fall does come just way later than the rest of the country and just enough for me.
I enjoy seeing your critters! Very nice reflections in the first photo.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Nice pics, love the ibis. It's always fun to go birding or looking for animals.
Wow, aren't the ibis birds beautiful! Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photos with us!
Another good Florida post. I think most people don't realize that there are any deciduous trees in FL. I love the cypress trees and have canoed through the cypress 'swamps' years ago with all the water polished cypress up around me. xo Diana
So glad you saw these on your hike.
Our weather is windy, cloudy and really cool today....
I am soooo ready for summer.
Frost in Florida? Well I never. That young White Isis is very striking. i didn't realsie what is was until you told us Diane.
I guess even Fall is relative, depending on the latitude. A friend of mine owned a place in Florida many years ago, and White Ibises would make holes in his lawn almost every night, foraging for grubs. He said he could put up with the holes because he loved to see the birds. Now you know why he was my friend!
The white ibis is so smart!... and after all so is the young one.
Have a nice Sunday!
I wish I could just step into some of your photos...sure a sight for sore eyes.
It's interesting what you see on your hikes. Wonderful photos, so nice to see. Thanks for sharing your hike with us.
I so wish we could hike. You'll have to do it for those who cannot!

...an Anhinga is something new to me. Neat feathered friends.
Diane, I don't think I've seen an Anhinga before. I thought it was a peacock at first!
Sure a big and pretty bird.
Coffee is on
Hello Diane!
Such beautiful birds you find! Great captures and gorgeous pictures!
Like the reflections in the lake! Thank you for sharing!
Enjoy your day!
Dimi...
Cypress trees have to be my all time favorite tree in the South. They're beautiful as are your anhinga photos. Love them there immature & adult ibis too. (It was a pleasure having stop by Hootin' Anni's this morning)
And, my thanks goes out to you for sharing this all with us birders at I'd Rather B Birdin this weekend.
Ps...thanks for visiting Hootin' Anni's also Diane.
Great photos and beautiful birds.
I look with admiration at your post. For me, winter, snow and cold.
Greetings.
Beautiful photos, every one of them.
Thank you for "taking" me on this hike with you. My health hasn't been the best lately and this was a nice treat as I love nature and the outdoors. :-) Hope you have a wonderful evening and a great week ahead.
Blessings,
Jill
Thank you for sharing your Florida pictures with us. Loved the anhinga pics!
Diane - wonderful photos - I especially like the first, with the reflection … classic Florida river scene! Please do keep hiking! Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
Beautiful trees and wonderful sighting of birds on your hike!
That first picture is really pretty. And what a lovely bird the White Ibis is. Isn't that something that they are grey and eventually turn all white? I love those little white flowers on your collage. They are a dainty and pretty one. You come across many peculiar and awesome birds on your hikes. It's a treat to see them all. : )
