We saw the most beautiful Red Shouldered Hawk at Blue Run Park in Dunnellon the other day!
And just as we starting snapping the pics, he swooped down and got a tasty tidbit for a mid morning snack!
Oh no....that's one of our baby turtles!
Do you think he's so rich he'll make turtle soup? (a line from our favorite Jane Austen movie Pride and Prejudice)
No he'll just pull it apart right in front of us
and eat it raw!
Quite an amazing sight to witness!
But don't worry, there are TONS of turtles at Blue Run.
RUN little turtle RUUUNNNN!!!
I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE
and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

...you captured some wonderful shots!
I didn't know hawks ate turtles. Great photos.
This is a really terrific sequence. Thank goodness you were there to capture it.
That is some wonderful pictures. I don't know if I could have watched him eat it. Yikes! The circle of life.
Hello,
What a sight to see, your timing was perfect. Great captures of the Hawk and it's turtle meal. Thanks for linking up and sharing your post today. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend. PS, thanks also for the comment and visit to my blog.
what an awesome sequence of pictures, the hawk is gorgeous....
awwww the circle of life, always hard to think about and even harder to see/watch!! poor turtle!!
have a happy weekend diane!!
Amazing photos!
I did not know that Hawks ate turtles, but I guess seeing turtles lined up on a log sunning themselves is too much for a Hawk to resist!
Have a great weekend!
perfect time for the turtle buffet scene. he is a beautiful hawk, love the first photo of him.. no different than us eating bacon for breakfast.
Fabulous photos! The hawk is quite handsome/beautiful!
We feel the same way about the turtles at our pond....they had better run too!! Those things can take over a pond in no time.
The circle of life...I think that I do like hawks better than turtles and handsome hawk has to eat...still, a bit gruesome. 🐢
Amazing!
Nature is like that... also the raptor must eat.
Great shots.
Awesome photos!
That must have been something to see and unexpected I'm sure.
Thank you for sharing with us~
What lovely shots, that is a beauty to behold
Thank you for sharing such interesting momment!
Sometimes nature seems so cruel but there is a reason for it all. The photos are AMAZING!
WoW! Diane that was an awesome site to see. Red tail hawks are not welcomed quests at the farm, they will devour a small lamb or chicken quick as a wink. Though they are beautiful birds. Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend.
Blessings,
Sue
Great photos of the hawk but feel a bit sad for the poor turtle but thats nature glad you were able th capture it on camera
Oh that is so cool. What a fantastic series of photos.
Such lovely looking Hawks, and you captured them so well.
WOW amazing photos. Happy that the hawk found a tasty meal but I feel a bit sorry for the poor little turtle
Great photos of the hawk doing what he does best! I love birds, but I must admit I worry when we have a hawk circling our property. Nature is lovely to observe, but can be quite alarming when viewed up close.
Diane - a wonderful series of photos … sorry for the turtle, but it is the circle of life! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Great capture! I know it happens, but I sometimes have to turn away! lol! Thank you for letting us know there are an abundance of turtles!

Your commentary is always grand, Diane...and the photos this week are phenomenal.
Thank you for sharing this with us birders at I'd Rather B Birdin' this weekend!
Ah, the circle of life! What great shots. Have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day!
The cycle of life! SOmedays, it's hard to watch. But it is the way of nature.

Great nature capture. Fabulous pictures.
Oh! What a thing to witness. There are cruelties in nature that we never see. The hunters and huntresses and the prey.
Great pictures. No turtle soup for me, thank you- xo Diana
Those are amazing pictures of the hawk, loved seeing these!! I never know WHAT IN THE WORLD you will come up with next, ha ha LOl One thing is for sure....it will be interesting, fun, beautiful, amazing, or all of the above, ha ha! sure hope y'all had a great weekend. We were awful busy and worked hard on projects, but also took a little walk about late today. It was chilly and I had to wear a sweater.
Oh, what a beauty of a hawk. He looks young. Oh no, he got the baby turtle! What a sight that must have been for you. I love to see all the critters on your hikes - it's so interesting. : )

Oh, I bet that made you sad. I remember watching a video of a child who had saved and kept alive a baby bunny. When he let it go into the wild, a hawk swooped down and carried it away! The poor child!! The poor bunny!! The grateful hawk.
So hard to watch, but it's the circle of life and all that... Really amazing photos, Diane! Thank you for sharing. Glad there are still many more baby turtles around.
Those were really some amazing close-ups of the hawk and his catch. We once witnessed a raccoon who had caught a turtle for its meal.
Check out those talons! Wow -- I wouldn't like to take that fellow on.
Maravillosas esas fotografías!!!
