The Barred Owl meets the Eastern Bluebird

Well, I don't really think they met but I began this hike on the Florida Trails with Eastern Bluebirds flying along with me. And ended the hike very near the same spot but under a tree looking up at a Barred Owl.

Hubby gets credit for spotting this beautiful Barred Owl.

He flew across the trail very near where I spotted one a couple of weeks ago.

And when he landed in the tree, it was an easy walk to get close for better photos!

He was gorgeous!

But we noticed he seemed to have trouble keeping his eyes open.

Hubby walked on the other side of the tree for a different view and the sun was shining right on the owl. (hubby is at the base of the tree, owl near top)

And you know how it feels when you sit in the sun!

It's hard to stay awake, even with a crazy lady in a pink cap standing under the tree! (do you see a bike whizzing by in the background?)

It was exciting to say the least!

But let's not forget the Eastern Bluebird.

Time to slow down and enjoy the sights.

And even though I know this is a bluebird, aren't the colors different in this view?!

I mentioned in my last post that I am taking a break from my blog...for just a week or so. I'm going to miss visiting everyone but I am having some bad headaches and need to stay off the computer for a few days and see if it helps! Enjoy your week!

See you back in blogland SOON! 💜

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Owls sleep during the day.... they're nocturnal. That's why you hear so much beautiful hooting coming from the darkened woods, at night. I love that hooting sound... when all is still & it's dark. It echoes through the woods and usually you hear another owl (or two) hoot back. I love wildlife & Mother Nature! Thank you for your beautiful pictures & blog posts. We will all be here waiting for you when you are able to come back. God bless you with healing from your headaches. ~Andrea xoxo

The Barred Owl has doubtless spent the night hunting and probably has a full stomach. Time to snooze during the day to get ready for another night's foraging.

I love owls...they have such an interesting look. I am sure you read the story of the baby owl in the Rockefeller Center Tree that hitched a ride to NYC. Amazing.

What fantastic captures of the owl! I've never seen an Eastern Bluebird, not even when I lived up in Ocala. He's gorgeous too!

I LOVE the Barred Owl, and yes, you caught him napping. He's been up all night prowling around and daytime is his sleep time. It was nice of him to stay put and let you get so many nice pictures. What a treat! And that bluebird is also gorgeous! Yes, slow down and enjoy! Now, for you, I pray that you will find the source of your headaches and that resting your eyes from the computer for a while will truly help. Please keep us posted when you feel up to writing again. We will miss you and your beautiful pictures. Have a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving.

Of course, it's hard to him to keep his eyes open during the day! He's up all night...hunting, using his "silent-flying" wings, and that very sharp beak to rip and tear through his catch! You and your husband did an outstanding job with the photos...GREAT!...:)jp

Handsome owl, beautiful bluebird, cute lady in the pink hat...crazy cyclist. Take good care and I trust that less screen time (and more rest time) will help send those headaches packing.

These are fabulous shots of both. I thought the second one looked like he was bowing his head in prayer. Maybe saying his bedtime prayers before nodding off.

Please take care, the photos are lovely. I hope something resolves this issues you are having. I had headaches at one time...and found wine, pickled anything, chocolate, caffeine, hard cheeses, cured meats---and a few other things would trigger migraines. it was also connected with hormonal surges, but who knows, this was in my 50's and about my only symptoms of menopause. sigh...in these times it's hard to even think about going to the doctor. Hugs, Sandi

I think your owl just wanted his daytime nap after spending all night hunting and eating. It's a lovely bluebird too. I really wish you well with those headaches. Hopefully the rest from desk work will help you recuperate.

Diane, is your head any better?---thinking of you. My head hurt off and on all last week and then it just went away, for which I was very grateful. Hope you feel better soon. I love the owl pictures....great close-ups! That one side view with his head down, he looks like he's praying!!---so cute. Get better!! Not sure if you felt up to going out this weekend much, hope you did. With some cooler air here, we've been traipsing around the old plantations again. One of my most favorite things to do....we always see interesting things and I always LEARN SOMETHING. Ps if I have a bad headache putting ice cold rag on my forehead and/or closed eyes helps me very quickly.

What a magnificent OWL! He looks so grand, doesn't he? And it's always a joy to see those precious blue birds. I used to see them often when I lived up north. Yes, his feathers in back are a bit different than the ones I've seen.
I hope your headaches are getting better, Diane. And Happy Thanksgiving to you, my friend. : )

Dear Diane - I really love to see the sleeping Barred Owl, so charming. How lucky you’re to have taken such close-up photos. Bluebird is also cute. I sometimes have headaches at the back of my head, and besides, I feel nausea when using PC long hours. But I get along with the pains, which is not so sever, doing exercises and less time with computer. Hope you feel better now. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

What is it about road signs that lures birds to land on them. I have one of a sparrow sitting on a "no parking" sign. You have some really awsome photos and the owls are beautiful! Have a grand weekend!

Diane - how blessed you are to have seen this owl in your neck of the woods. They are such spectacular creatures! Yep, I think if I was sitting in the Florida sun, I would have a hard time staying awake! Thanks for reminding me to pop over and see the owl. A great part of my day! Hope your headaches are going away.
