"Happy New Year" How about a HIKE?

Well, what did you expect from me for the new year! I can hardly WAIT to get in that first hike!

I used my 'time off' from blogging (and the computer) to make some longer hikes and take a few days trips. Our goal for this year was 150 hikes.....and we beat it by a few!

157 HIKES for the year 2021!!!

I know not everyone can get out and hike but I hope you can find a way to enjoy nature in the year to come. Packing a picnic lunch or a snack to enjoy at a park or on an old logging road can be enough!

A few 'highlights' from the past two weeks has to include this rare sighting.

We know there are lots of wild boars out on the Florida trails but we rarely see them.

We were on the back side of the loop at Halpata Tastanaki Preserve when we saw what we think are Papa Hog, Mama Hog and baby hog!

Of course the baby was the cutest!

And they were far enough away that we didn't get scared. (I didn't get scared!!! lol)

But just as soon as we lowered our cameras we watched in amazement as about 7 or 8 more ran across, lickety split! No photos of them of course! But they were something to see! And we walked up to their crossing to see all the hoof prints.

I'll round this out with a beautiful Northern Harrier that we saw that day....

and wish you a healthy and happy year to come.

I loved this quote even though I don't hike 'mountains' here in Florida! But maybe it just goes to prove that you don't even need a mountain or heavy boots or even walking sticks. Plan a hike....take a drive...get out in nature and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Nothing, except a moose or an alligator, would be more terrifying to me than seeing wild boars. Some of their colonies are huge!

We regularly have a hog hunter at Tenoroc. There are waaayyy too many wild hogs on the property. They do so much damage with their digging. Nice sighting though! I haven't seen any at work but the State hunter is usually lucky. Thanks for sharing your hikes with us! Happy new year! xo

Oh my, those wild boars are something, aren't they? I've never been that close to them, but have seen them alongside the road a few times on route 40 east near Silver Springs...a whole big family of them, probably like what you saw. That was quite a sight for you to see, and I'm glad they just kept rooting on across the road and didn't get too excited about you being there. That Harrier is amazing too! I wouldn't have known what that was! Thank you for sharing it with us. 157 hikes is quite the accomplishment! Wonder what you'll do in 2022? Happy New Year, and Happy hiking!

I agree with Vee! I'd be VERY afraid of wild bores. !!!!!!!

Not hikes for us. But getting moving, in some way, daily, is our plan. Today, it is like March here (AWFUL!!!) so we can walk, if only a little. If the weather does not cooperate, we find an alternative.

We have noticed that the Lowe's store is huge! Walking along the perimeter of the building materials section, one would not run into many shoppers. And weekdays, they open at 6am!

No we'd not get there then. But early. So it is a possibility. -smile-

Happy New Year

When the boars showed themselves did they make a lot of noise?

It's not really hiking weather here and won't be for awhile. Hope with more snow I can use my new snowshoes though.

Congratulations on 157 hikes! Whoo hoo! Boars would scare me! We went on a hike today in the snowy woods. Temperatures are rising and our lovely snow will soon be a memory so we wanted to take advantage of it. Keep on hiking!

I don't think I'd like to run across a wild boar!!
Great photos and congratulations on beating your hiking goal.
Happy New Year.
My first walk of the year this morning was in the rain.

Wild boars! Wow! I'll bet if they feel threatened they could be pretty mean. Love the bird at the end. And the Seuss quote. Hope you have a wonderful 2022.

I really do like your first quote about it being impossible to walk in the woods and be in a bad mood at the same time. Bush walking can eally lift your spirits. 157 walks - that is impressive! I wish you many more for 2022 and a safe and happy 2022 for you and yours.

Irma said...

Congratulations on capturing your walks!
It is wonderful to walk, I do that every day about 8 kilometers, I can't always be in nature, but in my own hometown it is also wonderful to walk.
Greetings Irma

Oh, I love the Dr. Seuss mountain quote. My son just took a walk through the woods, and it had just snowed. He walked about 5 miles, and by the time he got back, he was a bit tired. It's hard to tread in the snow, but he said it was beautiful, and saw some deer. What a sight to see those Wild Boars on the trail. and then to see EIGHT of them running across the path! Isn't that baby one sweet? I like your first quote too - that's so true. : )
