The Wood Storks at Halpata Tastanaki Preserve!

Last week I thought I had seen Wood Storks on the Gulf Coast but they were White Pelicans...hundreds of them!

Wood Stork

This week we drove over to Halpata Tastanaki Preserve and looked over head to see a dozen or so Wood Storks flying over....maybe more! lol

It was a beautiful day for getting out on the trails.

The weather was nice and we only saw 2 other people while we were there and they were nice too!

Wood Storks glide overhead with such grace.

They aren't quite as beautiful up close but they are some of the most graceful birds in flight.

We walked to Owl Woods and there were log trucks loaded and ready to leave. They don't clear cut this area but they take out some trees now and then for the health of the preserve. They are also getting ready to do some prescribed burns. It's a beautiful place to hike and so well taken care of. During the pandemic it was one of the few places open to us for hiking in our area. I loved the place before but this made it even dearer to me.

No....we didn't mean to dress alike! How embarrassing! lol

I'm writing this a couple of days ahead of time and hope and pray the hurricane will pass us by. I'll give you an update when I can and hopefully I'll be joining in on the linky parties and commenting.

Have a wonderful weekend! Get outside and have some FUN!

Update : we are fine after the storm. We had a lot of wind and rain but no damage to our house. Our prayers are for everyone dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Nicole.

...do these storks deliver wooden babies?

LOL about dressing alike. We have a couple that she always co-ordinates their outfits. We always make fun of them..usually to their faces. lol. Yep- I am wicked like that.

Beautiful walk again. I am not sure I have ever seen a wood stork. Storks really are graceful in flight though. What a great park for you!

Have a wonderful weekend, Diane. xo Diana

Nicole is supposed to arrive here tonight. We do not need rain and we don't need wind. Go away, Nicole! Glad that you made it safely through.

Those storks are amazing. And a well tended forest is a lovely thing.

Beautiful photos of these storks and pelicans flying overhead.
Good to hear you didn't have any problems from the hurricane.

Very wise. Yes, recent events have made everything much dear and clearer. Thank you for sharing

DO the storks have a bird call or are they silent?

Marcia said...

Got an error message after posting a comment. My question was whether the storks made any calls?

I laughed at your comment about dressing alike. Once in awhile it happens to us, too, and I feel quite conspicuous. Gorgeous shots of birds overhead. Nature is so beautiful, and it's important for everyone to spend time outdoors enjoying it as much as possible. Have a great week.

Good News that you are fine after the storm. Praying for all the others and for the areas that have to deal with Nicole as she moves along.

I had to chuckle, because I kept wondering if I would see a stork holding a little bundle with a baby in it. Hee Hee!

Yes, we were certainly blessed that Nicole did not bring much damage, but definitely brought us a lot of much needed rain! Those Wood Storks look so lovely in flight, but you are right, they aren't the most attractive birds on the ground. LOL. What a treat to see so many. Oh, and how neat to see the logging trucks and the logs up close. They are each so unique, aren't they? Wow, another of God's special creations! Thank you for sharing the beauty around you.

The wood storks look beautiful in flight and have handsome feather patterns; cute how you dressed alike.

The flight shots of the storks are quite wonderful. As for dressing alike, I can assure you that it wouldn't even occur to me that you had, and I suspect many others wouldn't notice either.

Glad to hear you made it through the storm ok. That's too funny that you and your husband dressed alike.

Hello,
Wonderful captures of the Wood Storks, they are one of my favorite Florida birds. I think they are cool looking. Looks like you had another great hike.
So glad you were safe from the hurricane Nicole. We had a lot of rain from that storm yesterday. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend.

Such a beautiful graceful bird and you go some really good flight photos. We see them in South Florida on my walk very occasionally. In fact, I think I only saw a group of them 2 years ago .

Hello Diane :=)
Oh my! Your stork captures are fabulous. They look very graceful in the outstanding sky shots. I like the photo of the cut wood loaded onto the wood trucks, and the different circle patterns they show.
Enjoy your weekend-
All the best.

Your wood storks are gorgeous. I am pretty sure that I have never seen one in the wild.

I'm glad that the owl preserve is well taken care of.

I'm glad no damage was done to your house from the hurricane. I like those logging trucks. I see them daily around here. And the Wood Storks are such graceful birds. Looks like it takes no effort for them to glide in the air.....but I'm sure it does. Can't imagine flying for such a long time without rest, it's so amazing.

Have a peaceful and lovely weekend.

Glad you made it through the storm. Love the bird photos!

I don't have that problem of those two species looking alike in flight. Neither of them occure here in rainy, cold and windy England. And here I am at 0850, looking along the road looking for the red Jeep and it's not there!

It's great to read you had no damage from hurricane Nicole.
Exceptional images of the stork in flight!!

What a terrific area to wander around in!

Hard to believe such large birds can soar so gracefully.

When you see them up close, I happen to think they have a really handsome profile, and that bald head enhances their elegance. --- Oh, wait. I was looking in the mirror. --- Never mind.

Have a great new week, Diane!

Hi There, Glad to read that you made it through the storms.... It's been a rough year for so many.

Do you ever get back to Carolina? We are not traveling as much these days... Gets harder for us OLD folks. ha

What do you mean it was embarrassing to dress alike????? George and I get tons of attention doing it... IF we quit now, people wouldn't know us.... ha ha ha

So thankful you survived the hurricane okay, it sure has been a strange year for hurricanes! What a blessing to have such a beautiful nature preserve close by to enjoy. Logging is such a necessary thing to properly care for the forests. The birds you saw are amazing! So incredible to see the beautiful wildlife! Many blessings to you :)

Dear Diane, first of all, I'm glad you didn't have any damage from the hurricane! The wood storks are a sight to behold - I would love to see pelicans just as much :-) There are no pelicans and no wood storks where I live, but (in the right season) white storks and great egrets or gray herons sometimes fly over us. They are such elegant fliers, too.
All the best
and have a wonderful time!

A beautiful set of photos, well done.

I know that feeling all too well, 20 years ago my Mum passed on very suddenly. She was living with us at the time as my father had also died suddenly 8 years preciously. During the time she lived with us she had also become my very best friend. I still miss her so much.

Take care and remember all the good times, they will make you smile.

Have a good week, t'other Diane
