Attention to detail

Sometimes I hike. When I'm on a good trail and feel like stretching my legs and setting a good pace.

Other times I take a nature walk.

'Attention to detail' is the ability to observe, analyze and comprehend even the most minute aspects of a situation.

Halpata Tastanaki Preserve gives you the opportunity to 'hike' and 'walk'.

I stopped under the big Live Oak tree that shades the trail about a half mile from the trailhead.

It's a good place to take a drink of water and look up into the massive branches of this tree for birds.

But this time something else caught my eye.

Then when I zoomed in with my camera I saw even more.

A perfect feather!

I thought at first it was a nest but I think it a branch that some big bird had lunch.

And if that wasn't enough to slow me down...

there were dozens of tiny frogs crossing the trail.

This one was so wet that it picked up little bits and pieces of the seashells that cover the trail.

Boy, is he going to be in trouble when he gets home.

He's so dirty and messy!

It was a beautiful day on the preserve and perfect for a nature walk!

A blog friend asked me how long I hike. Always longer than 1 hour and up to 2 hours, depending on how much nature I stop to observe!

We survived Hurricane Helene without any damage to our house. There are lots of branches down in the back yard but so far everything looks fine. We are keeping everyone in our prayers today. It was scary to hear the high winds and rain last night at about bedtime. But it's a beautiful sunny day today! Take care and be well!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

  and Mosaic Monday HERE !

That feather discovery is so lovely and the frog parade a great deal of fun! I'm so very glad you didn't get damage from Helene. It had to be scary. I hope the clean-up doesn't take too long.

Hello Diane
The feather is from a buzzards tail as I have one in a cabinet where I keep tiny bird sculptures, which I will share on Saturday's Critters. I think you are right Diane, the buzzard ate some chicks. The tiny frogs are cute, but why one is covered in stones is a mystery! I'm glad you survived the hurricane :)
All the best

Good to hear you survived, the frogs survived, apparently, the bird did not survive. What amazing sights when you pay attention to the details.

This is really a fascinating post with all the frogs!! The big oat tree is beautiful. Good to hear that you survived Hurricane Helene without any damage. We have relatives in areas that have lost power and had lots of flooding.

I loved the details of your walk,
I have visited your blog in the past.
In Brazil, my state had a major flood and there were
sentences of deaths.
I am glad the hurricane did not hit your house. All these disasters
are very sad.
Have a good Sunday,
Janice.

What a surprise you had with your beautiful post. (I came here to visit via Eileen by critters). Let me introduce myself first. I am Tine and I come from the Netherlands and I have been reading and following you for a while (url is in my reading list) and now I am leaving a comment.(i has lots of blogposts i read) I love nature and I also write about it on my blog mixed with poems from another life on a different blog. And I am very happy that the storm did not affect you because I saw the images on TV and that was quite bad. My thoughts are with all of them there. Furthermore, I thought your walk was very beautiful and certainly your photos. Greetings, Tine

great pictures, Diane! I've been trying to leave you comments all last week on the previous post, but it wouldn't let me, just kept saing "error". I am hoping this time this one will post! I love that second picture, of the trees!! Glad you didn't get any bad damage from Helene. She was a monster. We have alot of big trees down, but we are safe and fine, and our home and animals are safe and fine, so we are grateful!! Take care and enjoy Fall, it's still MUCH TOO HOT for me here, hoping for some cooler breezes soon, the hurricane only brought heat and no cooler temperatures. Hugs!

And to think that there are those who never get out and enjoy nature at all! I don’t know what they do with their lives! Glad that you survived the hurricane with minimal damage. Looks like so many others have had their lives changed forever.

Good to hear your home did not receive damage from the hurricane! Your phrase "Attention to detail" reminds me of a commercial that was on TV years ago promoting Travel Alberta, the theme was "Remember to Breathe" which in essence meant "Attention to detail". I have learned to do this while hiking and walking and it has transformed my experiences to a whole new wonderful level!

Lovely to see your feather and frogs from your walk. It's good news that you were not too badly impacted by Helene, so terrifying for those that are and as you say, our thoughts are with them. Happy wanders to you this week, enjoying the little things in life!

Diane - so relieved that you are safe and without any damage to your home. The pictures and videos of destruction elsewhere is almost beyond belief.

Loved your photos of the frogs, especially the one that will be "in trouble" when it gets home! LOL!

I had to check on you and am glad you didn't receive any damage during the storm. The branches can fall in the back yard all they want as long as they stay away from the house! Keeping everyone safe is all that matters.

The next post should be you out picking up the branches and making a big bonfire complete with roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. I can't lift the branches but will be glad to help eat the hot dogs.

Glad you got through Hellene unscathed!!
I like your style on your walks. You inspire me with your observations skills.
Thinking about it, my hikes are between one and two hours now.

So glad you had no serious damages from Helene. This is such a lovely post. -- my "hikes" are pretty much always nature walks really. I stop and observe (and it's good that there is always something to observe when I need to stop anyway because I'm not getting any younger these days somehow). I love the picture with the feather.

Thanks for taking me on your nature walk. The frog was a funny one.

Nature. Hiking. Done together = perfection.
Great pictures which certainly make us want to get out there, anywhere!

Very good news you had no damage. Same here, especially the branches in the yard. Which are now piled by the curb. My back hurts.

Wow... what lovely rememberings, dear Diane, brought me your post. In my childhood, on holidays at the Fichtelgebirge by the grandparents I collect frogs, mices and other insects. Your post, the captures are wonderful in the mood. Thank you for sharing. :)

First of all, I am glad you are safe from the horrible hurricane.
I'm glad you were paying attention because the details you found are so interesting. Love that striped feather and the wee (messy) frog.

Dear Diane, I am so glad that you survived Hurricane Helene without any damage to your house. When I heard about the storm, I immediately thought of you. There are really bad storms all over the world at the moment - nature is unleashing enormous forces to show us that climate change does exist, regardless of what some politicians say. We just had this flood disaster in mid-September (storm Boris), which caused a lot of damage, too, but fortunately also not to our house or garden (apart from a few broken branches).
You show us the much more beautiful part of nature in your post. You discovered a charming ensemble of feathers, branches and leaves, it looks like it was arranged by an artist. (And maybe that was the case - nature is a great artist.) Who knows, maybe the little frog is also a performance artist? But it drags itself more than its colleagues... I keep hoping that as many amphibians as possible survive the dangerous path they take on their migration.
All the best and happy October days,
hugs, Traude
