Books for Fun!

These aren’t what we normally review.

booksIMG_6241

But I have to say, I was thrilled to find them at the thrift store for $1 each and I’ve enjoyed looking through them and reading stories I haven’t read in years.

They even have dust covers!

The Blue Fairy book by Andrew Lang was published in 1959.

The Red Fairy book was published in 1960.

The stories are a joy to read and the illustrations are delightful.

I’m joining Ricki Jill for Literary Friday.

How long has it been since you read wonderful classic stories like these?

(and how much longer can I stay in ‘fairyland’?)

Oh what a find. I would love those for my little granddaughters. We live in fairyland. Tomorrow we are going on a six garden fairy garden tour. I never grew up. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Diane,
Yes you have to love thrift stores and old children's books. I think that should be a law.
I still wish you could read "Hetty her first 100 years". I see you can still get old copies on amazon for not much.
I might go to the thrift later today.

I loved fairy tales for a very long time. My 3 year old granddaughter is getting into them now and it's fun to revive the old stories for her. Those books look wonderful. Great find!

How fun! (And stay in fairy land as long as you want!)

I love finding old books at the thrift store that I enjoyed as a child. The children nowadays don't know half of those great stories.

What a wonderful find. Last year I re-read Little Women when I won a give away from Ricki Jill. I've got lots of Trixie Beldon books that I should re-read. It seems I liked mystery stories way back then too :)

Great finds. Been way too long since I've read any of the books. Maybe I'll renew my friendship with them with Sean, my 9 month old grandson very soon. How are you dear friend? I've been so busy have not had time to catch up on all going on with you, till now. Have a great week end.

If I may say so rather than staying in fairyland, you can take regular trips there anytime you feel like doing so. This way you will still be able to go hiking around Florida, chase fences, craft ans sew beautiful things, review books, take amazing pictures, spend time with your love ones, blog and have fun in fairyland ;-) I have got the feeling I'm forgetting something.
Take care!

I'm sure that I'm dating myself, but I haven't ever read or even heard of those stories! But then again, it was published before I was even born. Glad that you found some nostalgia as you re-read them.

oops! I take that back. I have read Jack and the Beanstalk. Didn't see that one in there.

Oh I have a post on my Graceful Touch blog about Fairy Tales! LOL! I was shocked at how scary and...well I was glad my mom didn't read me some of those Grim Fairy Tales. I have some of my Mom's and they are illustrated beautifully though! We wrote some Holy Tales for our writers group! That was fun and everyone had something different to share! :)
