What can I say! I read like some people watch TV. I pick up my book when I sit down during the day. And then I always read for a couple of hours before I go to bed. It’s interesting and relaxing. I check out books from my library and read most of them on my iPad Pro.
I like to read mysteries….they are my favorite genre. But reading mysteries is a little tricky. You can get some very scary psychological thrillers and some story plots that are downright disturbing. So I decided to read a couple of OLD books featuring Sherlock Holmes.
I read The Seven Per-Cent Solution by Nicholas Meyer and thoroughly enjoyed it. Easy to read….classic Sherlock Holmes.
Then I went back to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and read A Study in Scarlett. It seemed very slow and plodding to me but it was short and easy to read. Interesting to read the first book in the series and find out how Sherlock Holmes met Dr. Watson. I will read more of this series. I’ll just add one from time to time.
AND THEN….I read something that had GREAT reviews.
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
I don’t always care that much for a book that gets such great reviews with a cover that makes it look ‘chick lit’! But I was surprised! It really is THAT good! I won’t divulge any many details. It has lots of sad parts but it’s SO worth the read. I’m reading the next one in the series, After You and it doesn’t have as many good reviews but I’m going to ‘find out what happened next’. I fell in love with the main character in this series.
Don’t laugh….hubby came around the corner and caught me with 2 IPADS open and my phone in my hand.
So what’s on your nightstand?
Any mysteries you would like to recommend? I need a good ‘who done it’!

well, what's on my nightstand, pills. pills that are trying to correct the damage i have from MS, the damage that prevents me from remembering anything...which prevents me from reading. i use to love to read!!
i saw the movie "me before you" and i loved it. i was enlightened, not sad...i could relate to the story!! like the notebook, it is only sad if you focus on those parts. i see them both as love stories. i think the notebook was the greatest love story ever written!!

I am laughing at the photo of you with all your devices! Looks like me at times but there is a cat trying to sit on my lap also! You know I love to read and always have a book going. It is my favorite pastime for sure! Hugs!

Happy Wednesday and book day. I've 222 pages left in Brothers of Karamazov. Last summer, I took it to Russia to finish it, but the lighting in my hotel room was so poor that I didn't read while I was there. I misplaced it, and it recently reappeared, so I am finishing it up. I have been reading decorating and gardening books lately.
I rather read than any other form of entertainment, I read a book every 2 to 3 days. depending on the book. i have been guilty of sitting at the desk top, with phone and tablet at same time. i do that when the table makes me crazy and i research what it is on the desk top or vice versa. you would not like my thrillers, i love mystery but thriller type not Sherlock. as a child i lived for Westerns, read all of Louis Lamour and zane gray and any and all Westerns. went to historical romance, knights and armor type thing. loved King Arthur and Tarzan and any thing like those. i love action movies and books... the book you read, i saw the movie, my hubby love the movie to which was a shock to me, both those books are movies and well made. give me a choice of movie/tv/read and i choose reading. bob and i watch a movie every night or 2 hours of tv shows, like the voice and America's got talent. i would not watch them alone, but enjoy them with him
I usually read right before going to sleep, and when hubby is driving us places. I just started Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead - a fellow blogger recommended it but I don't remember who. I also picked up a Rhys Bowen book - always good for a light read. Happy reading!

Right now I'm reading The Run by Howard Fast.
Also just started Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson which I just brought home from the library. It is a mystery and I got into it on the first page. Will let you know how I like it when I'm finished.

you need more arms lol,, I just finished the ripple effect but I do see you like quite a few of the same books I do,, I read everday and go through a lot of books, some on audio but mostly large print,, reading is therapy for me, it calms me, and is a true pleasure,
I was a mystery reader but have moved on to Historical fiction. Some of the mysteries I was getting into were too graphic for me. I am reading The Forgotten Room and Gift from the sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh it is a peaceful very relevant book after all of these years. I still read a real book love the feel of a book in my hand.

I read Me Before You and then we watched the movie. I have the two sequels on my Kindle but haven't read them yet.
My Kindle goes everywhere with me -- it is hardly ever out of reach. Like you, I pick it up and read it whenever I have a few minutes and always for an hour or so before bed. My IPAD or PC after supper time keep me awake but the Kindle works just like a regular book -- relaxes me and I enjoy it and I sleep well. Right now I'm reading Sue Grafton's last book "Y is for Yesterday". So far, I think it is one of her better ones and that makes her way-too-early death even sadder.
The Sherlock stories are slow reading compared to nowadays that is for sure, but I'm glad I did it. I have a personal goal to read (the many) books that I have heard of and know a bit about but have never actually read. Sherlock fit into that goal perfectly -- I ordered the complete stories for my Kindle when we saw Sherlock was on NetFlix .... I'm glad I read the book first, it made the modernized series more interesting.

Good for you! I also so the movie Me Before You. IT was excellent . I seem to read in spurts....mostly in the summer. The last book I read was Lost Girls....
I've always liked James Patterson books. They are fast reads and thrilling. I think "Along Came a Spider" was his first book. I also liked Patricia Cornwall early books -- Bone Yard and Body of Evidence. Her protagonist is a woman coroner who solves the crime.

I like Deborah Crombie "KIncaid and James" mysteries (Brit), the "Maigret" books by Georges Simenon (French), Cara Black's Äimee LeDuc books (Paris), Louise Penny mysteries (Canadian), and Jacqueline Winspear and Susan Eila MacNeal (Brit). I've also recently discovered the Avery Ames mysteries (can't remember the author but they are fun and not gory) and the Classic English Mysteries (set in 30s) by Poisoned Pen press if you are into vintage. (And there's always Agatha and Dorothy Sayers and Margery Allingham and Ellis Peters!)
As you know my husband reads all the time. He likes mysteries as well, but he reads other books as well. We all have loved Sherlock Holmes. I like the picture of you with you ipads and phone. Blessings!
I love all the sappy Nicholas Sparks books and movies. Read all of them. I have been trying to get caught up on my sewing and by the time the days winds down I am so tired that I can barely keep my eyes open. I do love a good mystery, but haven't read one in a very long time. Nice picture of you multi tasking.
I love to read and my favorite is a series by Alan Bradley. The first book is entitled, "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie". A great mystery series. Thanks for linking up today!

I haven't read a good mystery in a while. I like Karen Robards, Nora Roberts and John Grisham. On my nightstand is a great auto-biography I just found, titled, 'Call the Nurse - True Stories of a Country Nurse on a Scottish Isle'. It's very good - I've been reading long into the night. I cant believe we both just posted posts about BOOKS! LOL---we both share such a love of books and reading. As you can tell from my post, I adored mysteries when I was a young girl, those ones you see pictured and of course all the Nancy Drew books, I loved them so much. I favor history books and historical fiction nowadays and probably the closest to mystery now would maybe be Diane Chamberlain, have you read her? Love her books. Some of Karen White's are kind of mystery....maybe more "mysterious" would be a better way to describe hers. Like you, I read every night before sleep. What's on my nightstand? A pile of books and my reading lamp {{smiles}} I just finished "If I Live" by Terri Blackstock and WOW! What a book! It's the last book in her "If I Run" series and the series is definitely a good one to read, but definitely start with the first book since the story goes through all three books.

I pulled up my Kindle...I have 1536 titles on it ... a long TBR pile.
I'm reading Fireflies right now by PS Bartlett...reminds me a little of Michener's Centennial. Has some craft issues, but the characters are wonderful.
I love that photo! If only I could concentrate enough to read something all the way through, I keep getting Kindle samples but not much grab my attention. I think I did a book review in school on the 7 Percent Solution. Great movie as well. Me Before you is on my list of Amazon Prime movies to watch but I got up to the accident which I know was in the beginning but it was too sad. You can't go wrong with Finnick O'Dair and The Khalisi though.
Love mysteries, too. I'm finishing Plague Land -- set in England at the time of the Plague by S.D. Sykes. I found it browsing the mystery shelves at the library. It's dark, but drew me in and I like the main character very much. I was happy to see there's a sequel waiting for me. Next up is Donna Leon's Earthly Remains.
I read The Seven Per-Cent Solution a couple of years ago and it enjoyed it thoroughly. I also like mysteries, the old fashioned kind, not gory or scary or dark. Give me a nice country setting, a vicar, a library, a locked door, and I'm happy.
