"Antique Dolls" for Wednesday Wee Ones

Dolls from my childhood are antiques! How did THAT happen? I think I know...time passed...really really FAST!

I was fortunate to find a lady that wanted to sell her childhood dolls and I'm so happy to have them. I don't have much left from my childhood.

I've made up for it in recent years by amassing a nice collection of dolls. I don't play with them as much as I used to but I do like to rearrange them sometimes.

Toodles is from 1960, Betsy Wetsy 1958 and Cricket is a thrift store find so I'm not sure when she was made but she has a similar sweet face, don't you think?

I have a doll room and these three are all on their little bed reading their sweet books!

Most of you know that I collect old children's books too.

So even when it's too hot to hike, I have plenty of toys to play with!

Do you remember a doll you had when you were a child,
or a toy that was special to you?

Remember to 'Take Time to PLAY'!!!

I'm sharing these on Wednesday Wee Ones and

I’m joining Thankful Thursdays .

i agree that all of us should take time to play, play whatever we like to play. yours dolls are beautiful. i never had dolls like these, i had a bride doll and a baby doll and lots of teddy bears. several of those 12 inch tall dolls that had the crochets clothing that spread out around them. my aunt made them. i own no toys now though. i just came from Annie who said she and her hubby had put together 11 puzzles since Feb, due to extreme heat in Texas, so yes, they are playing. keep playing and sharing

What a nice collection! I had a doll named Dody. A couple kids were fighting over her and her head came off. So sad. Beyond repair. But I remember she had a soft body and thin rubber that was kinda like skin. Have a wonderful day, Diane!

What a lovely way to keep the child in you alive and well. I wasn't much of a doll person except for paper dolls. I was more into roller skates, bikes and hula hoops, LOL. Of those . . . I still have a bike :)

I did not have many dolls growing up, but I have Barbie and Madge. Wished I still had them. I do remember a brown haired Chatty Cathy. She was so cute.

Love your collection! Play is important!

I remember seeing your awesome collection of dolls and how nice to have a room just for them. It's nice to play around with them. You always seem to be doing something fun like the drawing and watercolors. Hope you have a nice day and the rest of the week.

I think it’s wonderful that you have so many things from childhood and I love your passion for toys! Your collections are amazing, I don’t have any toys from childhood, I didn’t have a lot of toys, not saying that in a sad way but I didn’t, I did have one doll that I gave too many baths to her and she got stinky so they threw her out, I played outside a lot and read, that was my childhood, I think that’s why I’m so fascinated with your toy collections, I love them.

Hello,

I did not keep any toys from my childhood, I did share with my two sisters.
I remember playing with the Barbie dolls. You have a cute collection of dolls.
Wishing you a happy day!

A doll room? Oh Diane, you are sooooooo lucky!
Yes, I have a doll from my childhood and many many toys! As you already said, yes, these are antiques! Time passes really fast! Hugs, my dear friend.

Oh, I have to post my donkey sometime. I thought about you when I bought him. Thinking "you are never too old for new toys." I only have my dog Patrick left from my childhood. He met up with a Dalmatian years ago and is a bit worse for wear, but smelling him, brings my childhood back. It's sort of a miracle. I've had him since I was four and I have no idea why I wanted to give him an Irish name. Or how I even knew an Irish name at that age.

I too love children's books and have quite a few, but I don't collect them the way you do.

I get a little freaked when I see dolls I loved and played with as a kid at antique stores! Yours are adorable!

I don't have any toys from my childhood but they would be antiques too. I remember a favorite doll I had. It was Chatty Cathy. My brother's friend broke her by pulling the string too hard and Cathy wouldn't chat after that.

They are so pretty and sweet. I miss seeing your dolls.

Oh my, yes! I have dolls!! Some from my childhood, and most from gifts/collection through the years. I keep thinking I will start giving away some of my dolls...but still can't quite bring myself to part with them. I don't have any little granddaughters (or even a daughter) to give them to, so I'm not sure what will happen to them. But yes, I have my Tiny Tears doll from when I was very little, and some Madame Alexander dolls, and several others. Yours all have such sweet faces!! Thank you for sharing with us today.

Diane, I love those innocent baby faced dolls. It's fun to see hw you arrange them and dress them. Speaking of the time passing....I got a photo today of my sweet Emma Pooh giving a thumbs up pose with her driving beginners in her hand...where did that time go ? I actually cried. LOL. Ted got another good report from his drs. :) Blessings, xoxo, love Susie

You have a wonderful collection and I much prefer them to the 'grown up' dolls. They are just sweet faced and innocent looking. I had a small Susie Walker that I still have and keep it on a shelf. It is the only toy/thing I have left from my childhood. xo Diana

I remember my Tiny Tears. I was probably 7 or 8. A long time ago. Your dolls are precious!

I remember Betsy Wetsy. I also remember that grocery stores sold dolls oddly enough and one of my favorites...a walking doll almost as tall as I, was a great love. I think it is wonderful that you have given these dollies a good home.

Well Dear Friend, I see we have something else in common, we love and collect dolls, and children's books, my first doll as a child was a Madame Alexander doll, Oh how I love to play with her, thank you for the reminder to play, I stay so busy these days that I haven't read a book or visited my dolls, but I do walk by them each day and say hi.
Thanks for sharing,
Blessings,
Sue

Your dolls are so sweet. Mine (aka "My Staff") are all sitting atop a storage unit in my sewing room, watching my every move and discussing things among themselves.

Lovely dolls. I don’t have any from childhood but remember well the Christmas I got the Eaton’s famous Brides doll with combable hair!

I just love these. I have some old dolls tucked away in closets. Nice to see yours. Thanks for linking up.

I remember Betsy Wetsy too. I also had a doll named Chatty Cathy. There was a tiny tape recorder inside of her, so you could record yourself saying something, then Chatty Cathy would repeat what you said!

Your dolls are adorable!! I wish I still had mine, but I do not. I had all kinds of paper dolls too. As for books, I loved to read Nancy Drew Mystery stories. That takes me back about 75 years!!!! Have a nice evening. Love from Aunt Helen

Hello Diane my friend, I love love love your doll posts! Such sweet dolls and I love how you dress and pose them. If I had someone wanting to sell me their old dolls, I would jump on that also. I just love the little bonnets!--why don't we see sweet little bonnets on babies anymore?? I miss those. Guess it's not "in style" anymore. Love that you have them on your dolls. My girls were born so long ago, THEY WORE bonnets......ha ha ha ha LOL! Of course our son didn't....but they all got nice white leather Stride Rite walking shoes at about one year of age or so, it was a classic tradition. I don't think they even make those anymore?? Maybe the doctors said they weren't good for feet or something, I don't know. Hope you have a lovely weekend! It was cool enough for us to take an hour long walk last evening, so happy for that, but the heat is supposed to be back by Sunday on Father's Day. Oh, PS...I love your old children's books too! You and I collect so many of the same things.

I forgot, you asked about dolls we played with. I had Barbies, a brown hair Chatty Cathy, a soft rag doll and I loved my Baby Brite, she came with a little high chair and bed and maybe a bathtub? I adored my dolls and played with them until I was way up in age. We still played with Barbies up to Jr. High. I doubt if girls still do that? LOL

You must have been very happy to find the dolls. I loved dolls as a child but don't have any from my childhood. These days I don't collect anything (except books and paper, lol). I'm trying to downsize.

I am sure you were so happy to find the dolls. I played with Barbie dolls with my sister. We grew up in an old farm house. We had a room all to ourselves that was our Barbie room, we turned it into a Barbie city. :-)
It was great fun. I have my original Barbie.

I absolutely love these dolls. You have them all displayed so sweetly to. I didn't have my computer for a bit so Doll Daze has been delayed, but I really plan on getting it back on schedule. I always enjoy seeing your beautiful dolls Diane. I'm glad we have kept a blogging friendship as long as we have. Our dolls is what seemed to brought us together. I am blessed to know you. Shelley
