Amazing Sights at Blue Run!

We took a trip over to Blue Run Park for an afternoon hike and saw so many amazing things in a 2 hour hike!

This Green Heron stood out with it's bright colors in the dullness of the swamp.

You had to look at the right spot to see him!

Later I turned to ask my hubby something and saw this Black-Crowned Night Heron.

He was hard to spot.

He hides among the low branches on the river side of the trail.

Later we were lucky to see another River Otter.

He was the blackest color and some of the photos came out dark blue. (there appears to be a leaf on the back of his head)

We saw him dive into the shallow water and come up with something in his mouth.

But it's hard to tell what he had caught. It didn't really look like a fish but seemed too big for a crayfish or frog.

And it looked white! He gobbled it down before we had a chance to take more photos.

What a day we had! LOTS of neat sightings! Many of them 'out of the ordinary' which makes it even better!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

the otter would make my day!!! I wish I were close enough to hike with you. Bob can't hike anymore and I will not go by myself. all my friends can't hike either... we have otters in the park 2 miles from home, I saw them a couple of times, but only at day break. once we were driving by the park on the way to YMCA at 5:20 am, and one of them came racing out of the park, and across the road in front of us. I screamed as I stopped is that the OTTER? no photo.

Hello,

What a great day and awesome sightings. I love both the Green Heron and the BC Night Heron. The river otter sighting is cool, they are usually shy and hard to find here. Wonderful photos and walk.

Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend. PS, thank you for the visit and commenting on my blog.

A day spent with herons and otters sounds like a great day to me. I am always a little perplexed by people who claim never to see anything. They either walk around with their eyes closed, or more likely seldom get out into natural areas where these joys are found.

I have never seen one that color Diane, Thanks for sharing. We always look for our gray heron at the oond at home. He is very shy. If we try to get a photo, he flies away!

I would love to see otters! We have muskrats here that I see occasionally, but they are quick to dive under the water.
Love the Herons! Great photos!

I posted a comment then remembered I have to use Google Chrome now to get my comments to post on some blogs. So frustrating. Love the heron. I do not believe I have ever seen one that is that color!

I tried a few times earlier to leave a comment, and I don't think they went thru. (At least I did not get the approval message)

So, I'll try again...your photos are absolutely wonderful Diane.

That last shot of the otter makes it look like he has a bird in his mouth. They are fun to watch when there are two or more playing. Looks like you had a great hike!
