Where the Rivers Meet

It's so beautiful to stand on the bridge and look out at the Withlacoochee River.

This is where the Withlacoochee River meets the Rainbow River and there are beautiful swirls of color in the water!

And today we had the treat of watching a River Otter swim.

He went under water for so long, we had trouble keeping up with him.

We never knew how far down the river he would go before popping his head up.

They are so entertaining.

Can you find him in the center of the photo?

Another fun sighting on this hike at Blue Run Park in Dunnellon was a pair of Great Blue Herons.

They were 'chasing' each other and putting on quite a show.
One of them swam through the water like a Swan....

so graceful!

The other one was 'king of the brush pile' and then flew up into a tree and 'honked'.

It was a beautiful day to hike with lots of neat sightings. January is a great month to spend in Florida.

Have you had a good week? Have you taken many photos?

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

ooooh the otter is so cute and yes they can be difficult to keep up with. like the dabbling ducks, you can try but you never know where they will pop up!!

i have never seen a heron relax/sit like that, they are always upright when i see them!!

looks like a good day for you. i always have a good week but we have had a lot of rain so i have not taken as many pictures as i would have liked!!! i am so lucky to have the songbirds come to me!!!

have a great weekend diane!! it's really warm here, 60's/70, we have some fun adventures planned!!!

Fun sights and I enjoyed seeing them via your lens. It has been a mostly gray week so not much picture taking.

Years ago I lived farther north and had River Otters on my property, so I can understand your elation at being able to watch these glorious creatures. I used to take a chair down and sit and watch them, all before the days of digital photography unfortunately. Then I met Miriam and traded otters for her, I guess. You will not have to make such a decision!

Lovely shots! The swirling water reminds me of paints on a palette and the birds, the drenched color of brushes.

Oh, that otter is so darned cute! And nice water shots. As you know, I adore the herons and I would like to think that one of those handsome fellows is my Harry!

Such beautiful photos! We won't see the herons and otters until this spring at the cabin so it's nice to see where they are winter vacationing. ;)

"Withlacoochee". I had to say that slowly. I guess it has some American Indian origins? Whatever, it looks a super place to watch birds and other wildlife. I rarely see otters nowadays so I enjoyed the fact you saw one so well.

You have the most amazing ability to be in the right place at the right time to photograph the wonders of nature!

And then you always know how to capture these sights so beautifully. You are one amazing woman, Diane!

Such wonderful pictures of the Withlacoochee River and that otter! Wow what fun that was! I would love to see him. The Great Blue Herons were wonderful too. Our resident pond Heron seems to have moved out for a while, and the Canadian Geese and some interesting ducks have taken over. Maybe the Heron doesn't like to share his pond with these "snowbirds" so he moved further south! Hopefully he will be back. I love to watch them. Your pictures are great!!

So beautiful! And how fun to see the otter! Both river and sea otters always seem like they are just out there having a grand old time. You just can’t help smiling when you see them.

aaahhh, this is where your Header picture comes from. What a beautiful river this is, and that sweet river otter is a pleasant sight. I like the picture of the Heron with his head up high. He looks so regal hehehe.
