"A New Year of Adventure"
It's hard to know where to start! The winter months in Florida are so perfect that we are either hiking or talking about where we'll go next! The first hike of the year, we went on a trail we've hiked before but we went farther than we've ever been. Of course we can't wait to go back and explore some of the trails we found at the turn around point.
So looking back....150 hikes for 2019!!! I didn't set a goal to hike a certain number of hikes. I just walked as often as I could and kept a hiking journal all year long with highlights of every hike. And took LOTS of photos which I've shared with all of you. I sure have appreciated your encouragement and support....and friendship!
We saw an unusual bird at the Pruitt Trailhead of the Florida Trails. (our first hike of 2020)
Greater Yellowlegs
Since this is about 15 or 20 miles from the Gulf Coast, we couldn't believe this shore bird was at the horse pond.
Such a beautiful bird!
Fun to watch...
And now we've seen it there 2 different times.
What a fun sighting!
Have you seen anything out of the ordinary this week?

Such beautiful photos of this bird - well done, you!
...I'm looking forward to seeing yellowlegs in Maui soon.
That beautiful bird is well named! Are you going to try to beat 150 or just move as the spirit leads? ☺️
yes we did see something very unusal but it is coming up in a post and I don't want to ruin the surprise. this really is a beautiful bird, love the feather markings
IMPRESSED with all those hikes. Wow
Hello. Congratulations on seeing that bird!
Happy New Year!
Diane, It is so fun to see different birds, we have never seen before. But it just about drives me nuts trying to find out what it is. LOL. MY daughter Kathy is a great birder. Se knows lots of birds and is always listening or looking for them on her walks. I enjoy walking with her, when I can. That is a ton of hiking, you can be proud of yourselves. Do you add up your miles. Blessings for many more fun and interesting hikes. xoxo, love, Susie
Hello,
You did a lot of hikes, 150 is great. Wonderful sighting of the Yellowlegs, I guess any bird can show up inland. I have not seen anything special this week, just my regular yard birds. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend. PS, I appreciate your visit and comment.
Lovely photos, as always, Diane. HAPPY NEW YEAR, my friend.
i have only seen rain and fog this week, nothing out of the ordinary!!! i LOVE that you keep a hiking journal and that you kept up with it!!
you pictures are gorgeous, i always wonder how those skinny legs hold up that chubby body, they must be so strong!! i see this shore bird, OR similar shore birds here during the summer!!
have a happy weekend!!
I'm always amazed at shorebirds who appear to be walking on stilts. Great photos today and looking forward to your next hike.
I envy all of your wonderful hikes and the amazing wildlife you see. Thanks for sharing them with us. xo Laura
Can't wait to see what you discover on your hikes this year. Happy and healthy adventure wishes!
It's always fun to see new birds. My favorite here in N.E. Illinois is to see the Sandhill Cranes in one of the Forest Preserves. Usually there are at least two pair, last year, only one----! They disappear late in Fall and arrive very early in SPring often when snow is still on the ground! Love all your photos!
Hello and Happy New Year to you!
150 hikes is quite and achievement! Well done! You have some really wonderful memories! Have a grand week!
Always a great bird to see. It is a common species here in spring and fall migration.
Hello,
Beautiful photos! The Yellowlegs looks very pretty.
Happy New Year!
Hooray for hiking! The yellowlegs is a fun bird- love all your photos. Anything unusual lately...hmmm...nope, mind's a blank.
That is an unusual bird indeed! Those yellow legs are amazing! Nothing new or unusual to note here but I am always happy that you take us along on your adventures!
This is a bird I've never even heard of before. Those legs sure are a bright yellow. I really enjoy seeing photos from all your hikes.
Diane, such long legs on the sweet bird! I can imagine watching him was delightful! xo
Wow! that's a lot of hiking! how exciting for you to see this neat bird! You always take such great pictures to share. xo
Great photos!
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
Cool looking bird!
The Greater Yellowlegs is a member of the same "Tringa" family as our similar Greenshank. Greenshanks often use inland lakes, ponds and flashes as well as their normal coastal habitats. Happy New Year Diane.
Good for you for the hiking. I cannot, with health issues. I do walkabouts, though. I love your critters!
What a beautiful bird. I don't think I've ever seen one. If I did I did not know what it was. I'm so glad you share your beautiful photos with us. Otherwise I would miss out on so much of nature's beauty. You have a super day, hugs, Edna B.
Both lesser and greater Yellowlegs are common inland here along the coast. Wait 'til you see them both in view at the same time...you will then see the comparisons. And I know you will, it's all about being in the right place at the right time. Congrats on spotting a "new" bird! And thanks for bringing them to our attention this week, at I'd Rather B Birdin
What a sweet bird - a small body with loooog yellow legs. And his beak is long too. What an unusually beautiful bird. It sounds like you are off to a good start with your hikes in the new year, Diane. : )

Diane, we had four merganser ducks on our pond over the weekend. A mama and a daddy and two babies. I will post a pic of them in my Friday Five. They were so cute....I thought of you as Marvin was trying to get some good pictures. They are fast swimmers.
What a great surprise! And a lovely creature, too.

That's an impressive number of hikes. The yellowlegs is beautiful!
A hiking journal -- what a great idea! I did the math and it looks like you averaged at least 2 hikes per week, some weeks more than that. That's a lot of exercise and fresh air -- so good for you! You are one healthy gal.
Preciosas fotografÃas!!!
your Yellowlegs found a perfect spot all to himself! Very nice sighting. I read and admire your goals for this year (the post below)....you are an inspiration.
