It's so beautiful to stand on the bridge and look out at the Withlacoochee River.
This is where the Withlacoochee River meets the Rainbow River and there are beautiful swirls of color in the water!
And today we had the treat of watching a River Otter swim.
He went under water for so long, we had trouble keeping up with him.
We never knew how far down the river he would go before popping his head up.
They are so entertaining.
Can you find him in the center of the photo?
Another fun sighting on this hike at Blue Run Park in Dunnellon was a pair of Great Blue Herons.
They were 'chasing' each other and putting on quite a show.
One of them swam through the water like a Swan....
so graceful!
The other one was 'king of the brush pile' and then flew up into a tree and 'honked'.
It was a beautiful day to hike with lots of neat sightings. January is a great month to spend in Florida.
Have you had a good week? Have you taken many photos?

...it looks like a great day for a swim!
Oh my gosh Diane. These photos of the heron are absolutely perfect compositions!! Wow. Artfully created.
ooooh the otter is so cute and yes they can be difficult to keep up with. like the dabbling ducks, you can try but you never know where they will pop up!!
i have never seen a heron relax/sit like that, they are always upright when i see them!!
looks like a good day for you. i always have a good week but we have had a lot of rain so i have not taken as many pictures as i would have liked!!! i am so lucky to have the songbirds come to me!!!
have a great weekend diane!! it's really warm here, 60's/70, we have some fun adventures planned!!!
Fun sights and I enjoyed seeing them via your lens. It has been a mostly gray week so not much picture taking.
Wonderful photos!
Years ago I lived farther north and had River Otters on my property, so I can understand your elation at being able to watch these glorious creatures. I used to take a chair down and sit and watch them, all before the days of digital photography unfortunately. Then I met Miriam and traded otters for her, I guess. You will not have to make such a decision!
Hello,
What a great sighting of the river otter. They are cute playful critters. Wonderful captures of the GB Heron. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend. PS, thanks so much for the visit and comment on my blog.
Lovely shots! The swirling water reminds me of paints on a palette and the birds, the drenched color of brushes.
Looks like you had a enjoyable day! Love the Blue Herons, I love to watch them, too. They always entertain me on Kentucky Lake.
Oh, that otter is so darned cute! And nice water shots. As you know, I adore the herons and I would like to think that one of those handsome fellows is my Harry!
a river otter is so beautiful to look at in the wild and the heron! I am thrilled with their recordings!
greetings Elke
I don't see Otters here - interesting critters!
Love to see Great Blue Herons!
Such beautiful photos! We won't see the herons and otters until this spring at the cabin so it's nice to see where they are winter vacationing. ;)
Great wild life photos Diane. I wonder how the heron sounded. Blue skies, makes me smile. I like to watch otters. My daughter takes me to a little Zoo near where she lives. They have otters. Blessings, stay safe. xoxo, Love, Susie
January is my favorite month of our FL year, Dec and Feb are close seconds. these photos are ALL Amazing!!!! that otter makes me feel JOY just looking at the photos and I wish I could see him/her
I just looked at my otter trailcam video. There is a pair on our local lake, and someone has been posting images.
The heron, of course, are gone.
Wonderful photos.
What a great hike. You see so much wonderful wildlife. xo Laura
Wonderful pictures of the heron and the otter. You are right about January being such a great month in Florida. So many more ducks and birds to watch.
I love the bird photos and the ones of the Otter. I'll be in Florida in March and I'm hoping to take some wonderful photos too. You have a super day, hugs, Edna B.
I wish I could spend January in Florida. It looks absolutely beautiful there.
Very cool that you have river otters to see and enjoy. Beautiful photos from a beautiful hike. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.
Glad you got some good hiking in. I love to watch the otters;they fascinate me with their antics. They remind me of playful pups.
Your other pictures are wonderful-as they always are. xo Diana
You've taken some excellent shots. Can't even pick a favorite!!
You find the best places to see our beautiful Florida nature! I haven't been out to take many photos at all but I certainly look forward to hiking along with you in your blog! Thank you!!
Such beautiful places to see......
lovely wildlife. We have otters but sadly, I rarely see them. And I have never got a sht of them. Beautiful birdshots.
Alluring images on river, the Otter and Heron makes me superb.
Love all the photos but the otter is very special for me as I have never seen them. Keep well Diane
Did I mention how I love the photo compositions?!! Indeed I did. I'll say it again....
Thanks for sharing with us at I'd Rather B Birdin' this week!!
"Withlacoochee". I had to say that slowly. I guess it has some American Indian origins? Whatever, it looks a super place to watch birds and other wildlife. I rarely see otters nowadays so I enjoyed the fact you saw one so well.
Absolutely stunning nature shots and love your creative header ^_^

Your photos are so spectacular, Dianw, and just think you get to see these beautiful creatures in real like.
Blessings,
Sue
You have the most amazing ability to be in the right place at the right time to photograph the wonders of nature!
And then you always know how to capture these sights so beautifully. You are one amazing woman, Diane!
Such wonderful pictures of the Withlacoochee River and that otter! Wow what fun that was! I would love to see him. The Great Blue Herons were wonderful too. Our resident pond Heron seems to have moved out for a while, and the Canadian Geese and some interesting ducks have taken over. Maybe the Heron doesn't like to share his pond with these "snowbirds" so he moved further south! Hopefully he will be back. I love to watch them. Your pictures are great!!
What a good and enjoyable day you had.
I loved seeing all of your photographs.
My good wishes for the coming new week.
All the best Jan
Hi,
I love otter. We had two follow our canoe. It was so much fun to watch them play.
I always enjoy your posts. Have fun on your hikes.
Love, Carla

So beautiful! And how fun to see the otter! Both river and sea otters always seem like they are just out there having a grand old time. You just can’t help smiling when you see them.
aaahhh, this is where your Header picture comes from. What a beautiful river this is, and that sweet river otter is a pleasant sight. I like the picture of the Heron with his head up high. He looks so regal hehehe.
