Did you see the bear on the trail?

Well, no we didn't! But that's what a person on a bike asked us on the section of Florida Trails East of hwy 484. They had just seen it.  (the entrance to our trail below)

Oh my! Did we turn back? No, we went another mile or so. I would say it made me walk faster but I think it slowed me down with all the looking out into the woods to make sure I saw it before it saw me!

Always something exciting when you get out in nature. We know there are black bears in the woods where we hike but I don't really want to see one. I have enough of an imagination to make this log into a wild animal! heehee!

Some of the pretty things we've seen on our hikes this week.

Fall Colors!

End of summer wildflowers and lichen.

Horsemint and Goldenrod

These persimmons look ripe but they are high in a tree. Maybe the bear will climb up there and feast on them.

Bottom left is where we park for this trail.

A few oddities this week too! All were on cars except the blue balloon hiding behind a tree.

The weather's GREAT! Get out there!

(I sound like the weather channel on TV)

I'm joining Angie for Mosaic Monday HERE .

Also I like Thursdays HERE.

...I enjoy bears, alligators, snakes and the like from a distance. Fabulous collages my friend.

A lovely wander with you today, I wouldn't have minded seeing a bear either! Have a great week.

It's so nice to get out for those walks in nature. I'm so glad there weren't any bears around while you were out there. I hope you have a nice week Diane.

I think that log in the woods looks like a panther on the prowl! I rather meet a bear than a panther, but prefer neither. Beautiful collages, Diane. Yes, get outside - it's so wonderful to be in nature. Have a great week!

We did see a bear on a hike once in WV. It was a young one and at first we thought we were seeing a dog. No mama bear behind it luckily.
I enjoy your hikes with you.

You are very brave to take a hike with a bear around! We have seen bears on hikes years ago. One was up a tree. They are nearsighted and climb trees to get a vantage point. All of your photos are great of your lovely hike. We walked this morning in 58 degrees--Love this weather. Have a happy week!

I don't think the bear would bother you if you didn't bother it. Most animals don't attack unless they feel threatened. I think. Those are wonderful photos. Enjoy your day, hugs, Edna B.

You are very brave! I would have been shaking at just the thought of a bear that close! And the log that looks just like a sneaking up hungry panther would have sent me screaming! But you sure got a lot of lovely photos.

What a lovely walk you shared, we have black bear on our property, and occasionally see them, thank goodness no close encounters with them, I leave them alone and they leave me alone is our pact! ~Wink~
Thanks for sharing.

Hello,

I have seen bears in the wild, they usually run away quickly.
We have seen them up in the trees in Shenandoah, them climb easily. Looks like a pretty hike, lovely the flowers and butterfly.
Take care, enjoy your week ahead!

We see more bears in our town than out in the bush. They come to eat fruit from trees and to ransack unguarded trash cans. Our local Facebook message board often has bear alert warnings for people to take care of their things, pets and kids. We try to live with them, but if a bear becomes too habituated to city life it has to be either moved or if dangerous, put down. Such a sad thing. They were here first. - Margy

You certainly are adventurous and continued on to get some great photos. I on the other hand would have run as fast as I could out of there - probably never to return... Don't like bears!!!

Lovely photos of all the end-of-summer flowers!

I'm sure that bears that were sighted will find those persimmons as bears have a super sense of smell! Everyone who has apple trees here has had to remove all the apples asap as the bears have been out in full force climbing trees to eat them all and what they do not eat the deer come during the day to eat off the ground.

That log would have sent me racing back to the Jeep. Y'all are brave.

Gosh this post inspired me! It felt like I was out there with you. I was a little apprehensive about the bear but wanted to see it

I think I would be a little leery if I knew a bear had been spotted. It would be nice to see one but from a distance and when it's distracted and not looking at me.

Diane, I'm glad the bear stayed away. Love the color you found. Thanks for sharing and have a great week! Sylvia D.

Beautiful photos as always.
I'm sure that bear was long gone. The bears around by us are easily scared and run away!! For which I am happy!! :)

Lovely, as always!

What a story!
Normal bears will leave if they hear humans. There haven't been many bear incidents.

We have lots of black bears here and in one school that I taught at that was next to woods we had a special intercom code for gathering the kids in quickly. I have seen more than I want. They are usually just on their way but scary nonetheless and trust me I try to keep up. Don't want to be the last one walking.

When I walk into a mountain, “Beware of bares” sign frightens me. I act cautiously at first, but soon I find myself being absorbed in the beauties and magic of forests as is shown in your photos. Nara is famous for “Kaki”, persimmons. They’ll be ripen in a month.

Diane - If I had a quarter for every time someone said to me "did you see the xx?", I could buy more than a few cups of coffee - maybe more like a coffee plantation! Yes, seeing a bear has its pros and cons - always better from a (safe) distance. I love the orange fungi! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

Looks to me like a perfect outing!! And a beautiful area to walk...yes, I can picture that log as a critter!

I'm glad you had a good walk -- but I think I might have found another route, given the bear sighting!

Hi and thanks for visiting my blog today, nice to meet you. I love going for walks, but I would be terrified if there were bears. We have rabbits, deer and foxes, and sometimes wild pigs, but no bears! Thanks for sharing, Valerie

Love your hiking in the woods in the fall. I am missing my woods from Salt Springs, where we OFTEN had bears. We always carried a bear whistle with us, or we learned to make a LOT of noise when we thought one might be near. Oh, we do have some wild persimmons where we walk. Just don't try to eat one unless you KNOW it is VERY RIPE! YEs, let the wildlife have them!! Thanks for your wonderful fall pictures. We do have some beautiful wildflowers and other natural beauties here in Florida in fall!!

What a wonderful hike and walkabout for you. Girl, I would die of a heart attack if I encountered a beer. Where I live, there is lots of critters and black bear has been spotted not even a 1/2 mile from me in the woods. Lordy! I hope that you have a lovely day. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

So nice to be out in nature. Glad "the bear went over the mountain." :)
I especially admire the fall colours pics and the wildflowers.

Haha! That log does look like a wild creature! Maybe a panther getting up from his nap? 😜 Love your sense of humor, Diane! Btw, those rugs you asked about have a nice heavy rubber backing that keeps the rugs firmly in place. And they don't curl up on the corners after washing. They are our dream rugs!

That log was creepy. I think it was Big Foot laying down taking a nap and you disturbed him as you walked by. He was getting up to move to another place where it was quieter. The sound of your camera clicking annoyed him. That's the reason no one ever gets a picture of them. (No shortage of a wild imagination in my brain.)

Oh, I hope the bear gets those persimmons before anything else. I love persimmon cookies, and now I want some hehehe. Be careful of the bears.
My neighbor noticed a bear right near my house years ago, so you're right, there are bears who wander at certain spots in the woods! What a pretty orange butterfly you came across on your hike. And I love your red jeep.
So glad you can clearly see it if you ever need to quickly go. : )
