Jungle Trekking

Florida can look and feel very jungly (is that a word?) at this time of year.

Everything is green and lush and some of the vegetation reaches out and tries to grab you when you walk.

We really enjoyed the boardwalk at the Withlacoochee Gulf Preserve.

The drive out there was a one lane dirt road which makes you wonder what you've gotten yourself into.

But we only saw 2 other vehicles the whole time we were there and they were both parked. (we didn't meet anyone on the narrow road...whew!)

The boardwalk itself is just like new and absolutely beautiful!

Lot of overlooks and benches and information along the way.

Lots to learn!

And what views!

The visitor center was not open (except for the screened in lower level) on the Sunday we were there but it's very nice too.

We walked and walked and enjoyed our Sunday morning until we got off onto the grassy trail.

The bugs were awful! Flying all around, trying to get in your eyes and mouth! The only thing I can say that was good about them is they didn't bite! We were surprised. It still wasn't pleasant to be in a swarm of non biting insects though! heehee!

It was a beautiful day and we'll go back again soon! (preferably when there's a breeze)

I have, but I had to make an escape because the bugs were terrible and they were biting. I must get out again in just a few minutes and I'll be using bug repellant.

What a wonderful place to walk! Sorry about those pesky bugs! I walked the beach this morning, it was lovely and there was a wonderful breeze.

Hello,
It is a pretty walk, I like the scenery and the cute dove.
The bugs can be very annoying. Take care, have a great new week!

That looks like a great place to walk, except for the bugs! The deer flies and horseflies are coming out now, and they love to fly all around you while walking. Last evening I got a few deerfly bites when I went outside in our yard, so I guess I won't be doing that again for awhile! Anyway, that looks like a great place. Maybe in the fall...

What a nice walk you had! I love all the pictures you posted. I would have loved to join you. (Except for those bugs. Yuck!)

Yes I agree sometimes Florida is definitely jungly. Beautiful photos as always. Thanks for taking us with you.

Looks beautiful there. I wouldn't like the bugs too much though.

What a lovely place for a walk, except for the insects! Are there alligators? It certainly looks very jungely. Stay safe, happy travels, and thankyou for visiting my blog this week.

Diane - that is a significant boardwalk - someone put a lot of hard labor into it! The "off-road" bugs don't surprise me much. In Montana, as soon as we get out of the open and into the woods, it is skeeters everywhere and even ticks! This week, we have been walking the beaches of Cayman - delightful! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

Bugs can be so annoying! Florida is filled with beautiful walks - more than I would have imagined, but you have opened my eyes to so many of them. And yes, I've taken some great walks this week - with friends on a wide open beach, by myself in our neighbourhood that includes walking through some wooded trails. Walking is good for me mentally and physically.

I am glad to see that some things never change. I dropped away for a while--a year--but hopefully I can get back into the swing of things. Your adventures only get better, especially now in a new red jeep.

What a wonderful place to explore! That whole area is so lush and beautiful.

Let me think: "Urbany and malls filled with shoppers" or "Jungly and filled with a different sort of wildlife"?

No-brainer for me!

Bugs - it's why I always take Gini along. She is MUCH sweeter!

The last picture of the dove looks quite a bit like our Mourning Doves. I love them because they are gentle and don't bother anyone else. Mine are ground feeders and have finally begun eating off of the floor of our deck so I can watch them from the kitchen window. I throw feed out whenever I am washing dishes.

From your photos, I'd guess the swarming insects were worth it. What a lovely boardwalk and scenery! I've been doing a little gardening...not a lot of stamina these days!

Hi Diane. "tropical" is the word I would use to describe your walk along those paths and boardwalks. I would have had the time of my life along there with so many places to stop, look and listen and to take photos. Sorry, I forgot to include some pictures of our Jimny Jeep in Greece for you.

Those mourning doves are so precious. I saw one yesterday on my front lawn picking up things and flying away. And she kept coming back and doing it again. I'm wondering if she's collecting things to make a nest. Looks like you had a nice jungly hike. I like that clean walkway you are on. And the benches are nice for tired people to rest.

I have not got out for a nice walk this week, but we do ride our bicycles nearly every morning, shortly after breakfast, before the sun gets too hot. Florida is beautiful at this time of year.

Jungley sounds perfect! Only 5 months until my next Florida trip...

this looks like a great spot to walk, in the "jungly"!! fabulous to have that nice boardwalk to hike on, you guys look great in your pictures!!

i always enjoy benches and overlooks, alerting you to great spots for taking pictures. what i don't enjoy are bugs, i know they are necessary but often ruin everything!!

i LOVE your "new to me" header picture. i missed you seeing the dolphins!!

I'm afraid of wild bugs, yet I enjoy watching them. It's a fantastic boardwalk that winds through the woodland and marshlands. Beautiful images.
Have a nice weekend

Love the hike -- and I'm really sure jungly is a word, because I use it all the time (as you say, especially this time of year here in florida!)
