The Neighborhood Pond

I haven't shared photos of the neighborhood pond in awhile.

Mottled Duck (I think)

As a matter of fact, I don't go over there as often when we hike so much. But I'm sure I'll walk over at sunset more this summer.

This particular day, I had been to the restaurant to pick up 'take out' and the back of the restaurant is all glass looking out over the golf course and pond. And I saw something amazing! But I didn't have my camera with me. It was a flock of White Pelicans. So that's why I went back over there in the evening to see if they were still there. Keep in mind that we live less than 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico but it's still unusual to see Pelicans at the pond. And yes, we live close enough to walk to this restaurant. (I had a fish sandwich and hubby had a Reuben. We live on a golf course and there are some very nice amenities that come with that.)

So even though I didn't get pics of the Pelicans, I enjoyed the walk over there (and even talked with some neighbors that were walking in the cool of the evening).

And it was nice to stand under the shade trees,  looking out over the pond and watching the ducks.

Looks like a few young ones still with Mama.

And some others together as a family.

The sun was low and casting a nice glow on these.

The pond, a Grackle and a Red-winged Blackbird

When we woke up this morning, a flock of White Ibis walked through the back yard.

Ready for another round of golf!

We love living in Florida. It's not for everyone, but we love it year round!

Get outside and enjoy your day and the special place YOU live!

I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE

and I’d Rather B Birdin’.

Hello,
Neat sighting of the White Pelicans. I love the ducks and their cute babies.
The Ibis are always nice to see, they do enjoy finding bugs to eat in the grass. Great photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend!

if i was close enough to walk to take out food I would never cook. LOL.. we saw a sweet mama/daddy/juvenile mallard family on our walk, Beau walked with in 3 feet of them and did nothing... they got up and slowly ambled away making the sweetest sounds

I have always been drawn to ducks. I have no idea why, but they stop me every time. I love Florida too. I can't imagine anywhere else on a full time basis!

A very lovely place to spend your golden years - and what I love about the iphone is, I always have my phone on me, so I always have a halfway decent camera. Back in the day, as you know, if you didn't have your actual camera with you, any shot at all was missed. And all that film roll handling! Bleh!

Your neighborhood pond is very pretty!

White Pelicans do get around. I've seen them in small lakes in Orlando - which is also about 30 miles from the Atlantic Coast.

They are so much fun! You have great adventures.

You do see a variety of birds where you live. We seem to have an overabundance of robins. I saw more varieties when the birdfeeder was up. had to take it down when bears awakened. Just today though I hung a suet feeder in my sculpture garden bed. I think it's safe to do that now.

Those Mottled Ducks are quite attractive. We walk everywhere which is one of the advantages of living in a city.

Wonderful pictures of your pond and ducks, ibis, etc. Yes, we are blessed to live in Florida year round. It has its challenges like everywhere else, but I prefer our challenges to some that I've seen in other places. You do live in a lovely location! Thank you for sharing more of it with us!

Earlier today I visited a blogger who shared early morning in Florida and now I’ve seen evening in Florida. This is an example of what’s cool about the blogging community. It’s the second best thing to seeing the wildlife in person. Thanks, Diane.

It's hot over here! Fun to see the white pelicans (and I totally believe you, even without a picture ;>))).. Your neighborhood looks a really nice one to walk in, especially when it gets too hot to go for your usual long hikes.

We have driven through homes located on golf courses and wondered why anyone would want to live there. I always felt like flying golf balls would be bothersome. Obviously, it has quite a lot of perks that I didn't realize.

Those White Ibis are so interesting looking. And they sure are pretty with their long beaks and legs. The neighborhood pond is lovely. Sometimes all we need to do is take a walk around our areas to see special and wonderful things. Love the photo of the Mama duck and her little ones.

Have a great week, Diane.
