Felburn Park and the 'flying fish'!

When we drove to the Gulf Coast last week, we took our picnic lunch to Felburn Park. More info HERE.

It's a state park and one of our favorites here in Florida.

And after we ate, we walked
the trail to Phil's Lake.

Then we spent some time looking out at the Cross Florida barge canal.

It was too hot to be out for very long. It was still in the 80s but the humidity was very high and there wasn't much of a breeze. No problem with bugs or flies here thankfully!

I'm generally a happy person and it's not unusual for me to laugh out loud.

And I had a lot to laugh about!

The Striped Mullet or "jumping mullet" were putting on a show.

More info HERE!

Hey! I think I see one over there!

And there's TWO!

It was funny to see them jump out of the water but it was just as funny to try to photograph them.

When you saw one jump, it was too late to focus in and take a shot.

So all of our photos were lucky shots!

We saw lots of beautiful wildflowers

and this amazing Mississippi Kite!

Mississippi Kite perched in a tree.

And then we saw each other too.
But don't ZOOM in so much!
Give me a minute to 'strike a pose' next time!

I'm joining Angie for Mosaic Monday HERE .

I’m joining Thankful Thursdays and

I like Thursdays HERE too!

Oh, a new park for us to visit!

Thank you for the beautiful images. Of course, all those jumping mullet have made me hungry. Grits and tomato gravy. Hushpuppies. Now you've done it.

Great shot of the Mississippi Kite! They don't usually show up in our area.

Enjoy the new week!

Oh those exotic looking flat-ish purple wild flowers! Soooo pretty.

With age, humidity takes its tole on me. It grew and grew, so that now, when a certain amount of humidity has arrived, I begin to feel as if I can not breathe. And that is very unpleasant.

That is when we have to turn on the A/C units.

Glad we have it but dislike having to close house up.

So, I'd not be a happy camper, living where you have to have A/C going all the time.

You love where you live and I love where I live. That is, I love the 4 seasons. I do not love the horrid Liberal Political atmosphere and etc.

Gentle hugs

Oh how wonderful!! To actually capture those flying fish in action is really neat! You did great!! And I love that both you and your hubby are taking pictures of each other! I didn't know he took pictures too! Do you ever post any of his, or does he do his own blog or something? That's neat. I love the flowers, and the Mississippi Kite too. We used to have a family of them here before our big tall dead pine trees fell down. They perched up in the top of them, but haven't seen them since the trees came down. I guess they found another place to perch! Great photos!!

I have always found Mississippi Kite to be an exceptionally elegant bird, all kites in fact. Sadly we don't have any here.

How fun to watch those fish. Good job on catching the lucky shots.
Love the purple flower in the collage of wild flowers. That is so unique. I've never seen anything like it.

Dearest Diane,
I have to LOL, too - my husband and I call taking pictures of each other "The Empire Strikes Back" ;-) ... And your flying fish photo campaign reminds me of my attempts to photograph a common swift in Mallorca or to get at least ONE clear photo of the MANY of these birds that flew overhead. In any case, I can well imagine that it was a great show by the mullets! And the Mississippi Kite is a wonderful sighting, too. I also envy you a bit because you include passion flowers and lantana in your WILD FLOWERS. Here they are potted plants that cannot overwinter outdoors. (But who knows, climate change will probably change THAT too...)
Hugs and all the best,
Traude

That fish is worth laughing over! I'd laugh when I'd missed shot #10. I've missed so many birds, too!

Those fish made quite the splash. It is definitely too hot to walk outside here right now and looks like August is going to continue in the 90s. Have a wonderful day. xo Laura

Diane - when we lived in Florida, I remember people feeding huge schools of mullet - they would thrash around in the water, competing for the food. I don't recall ever seeing them jump. That purple flower is so unique! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!

I love being able to tag along on your hikes and walks. But even more I am delighted that you are so healthy and able to do this what a joy! Good health is a treasure and a true blessing.

OH I'm so sorry you missed a lot of the mullet shots (I call them flying fish, although I know that is another fish altogether). *And* of course I'm joking because you got the lovely flowers and the absolutely wonderful kite shots, and the lovely people -- who cares about the fish. Plus you made me laugh thinking about taking pictures of where the mullet used to be! (I have SO many pictures of the Lake we used to live on here when I was trying to get pictures of pie-billed grebes. They always dived just as I snapped. (Somehow more disappointing than missing mullets ;>)/ Thanks for the beauty and the laughs.

Wow the pic of water splash!!!! fast shutter speed! I have one of those flowers. It is headed back to 100 next week but mercifully a slight break today at 78 because it was cloudy. Lots of bugs here in Colorado!

I could see how difficult it is to capture these jumping fishes in action. During a few backwater boat rides, I saw fish jumping over. The lake is stunning in its embrace of greener environs. Great kite capture! Have a wonderful weekend.
