Gray is the ‘new’ black!

….or in my case, the new blonde!

So have you noticed? Were you just too polite to mention it?

It actually was an easy change for me.

dollscropIMG_0746

I’ve been blonde my whole life…lighter when I was younger and then dirty blonde as I got older. And living here in Florida, the sun bleached my hair out until it looked almost white.

So I thought….what the ‘hey’! Let’s see what it looks like. I had been putting a medium blonde rinse on my hair about every 2 months (and my roots looked very light) so it didn’t seem too radical to stop. So about a year ago I stopped. And now all of the color has been cut off.

So far my hair dresser, Pam says my blue eyes look even bluer and my husband has complimented me more on my hair than ever. And awhile back, a man behind me in line at the thrift store asked me about my hair. He wondered if I colored it and said he liked it. What a shock!

So now I can get out in the sun all I want and not worry about how much it bleaches out. The lighter the better, I think.

I would close the comments but you know I can’t wait to hear what you think. Do you like the before or after?

(I didn’t touch up these photos or even sharpen them…just cropped them)

Being blonde has defined me.

But time moves on!

(and this post may move on to the second page, too! hahaha)

Have a FUN weekend!

Hmm... think I'm going to be a wienie and say I like them both! Tell me-- do blondes have more fun? I've always been a brunette.

I really like the white, it is very pretty on you! I let mine go white after being black all my life. I am now thinking about trying blonde but Jim loves the white

I like the white, but then my hair is that color too and I hate messing with hair color.

I like the white! And so much easier - no more colorings, no more roots to worry about! I sometimes get comments on ymy hair from strangers too- isn't it fun?!

Montanagirl said...

My honest opinion? I really like the "after" look much better! Both are nice, but the after is my choice.

I love your hair both ways. It's that cute smile of yours, LOL. My personal preference is the white color. Not only is it attractive, but it will be easily for you to manage! I colored my hair in my 20s and finally gave it up because of the nuisance factor. Now it is a great salt and pepper color.

I love the after and, until you mentioned it, am ashamed to say that I had not noticed. It has got to be easier and you still read "blond" and I mean that in the nicest possible way. I can't wait until I get to be a blond. I've got some streaks, but they're not changing fast enough!

So far...so good! I don't usually comment on my own blog but here I am! I'm so glad I'm getting 'support' for the new 'silver' color! I REALLY don't want to ever color my hair again! It's been such a liberating experience! I feel FREE! Thanks for the sweet comments. Maybe I should close the comments now while I'm ahead! hahaha! HUGS!!!

You are so darn cute. How freeing to not worry about coloring your hair. I have this patch of gray/white that will keep me at the beauty salon for awhile more. I already am older than most of Josie's classmates parents by a good 8-10 years.

Have a beautiful Saturday.

no, i LOVE white and silver hair! i often compliment folks in the stores when i see them and their beautiful, natural color (or lack thereof).

I really like the after, but then again, you look great both ways. Love the sweet baby picture!

I LOVE "silver". Have been a silver since I was in my late thirties. Thanks to genes on my mom's side, we go white early in my family and talk about resistant to color. I had black hair. Just decided it was to expensive and a hassle to keep coloring it.
When I go to my kids events I am always asked if I am the grandma! Did I mention I love your look!
Enjoy,
Barb

You look beautiful in the after.. it looks more natural and does not age you in my opinion..really, you have such a bright and cheery face and the cut is great.. the color looks natural.. I say you did the right thing all around!

Diane, I LOVE the new look, but I'm guessing you knew which one I would pick - haha! I too was blonde all my life but get way more comments and compliments on my hair since it turned snow white. And, yes, I too have been asked if I dye it to get that color. I don't even think there is a way to do that.
Enjoy!!

I noticed your hair but just didn't think to comment on it! I love it, softer I think and just suits you! I wish my hair was lighter. It was always a med brown and has gotten darker as I age. I've just a few strands of grey here and there! Still it's my hair and I'll keep it! Love you Sis and you look marvelous!

Oh- We are SEESTERS!!!! I LOVE your hair- You look beautiful. What a darling baby picture, too.

It is about the same color as my own-that white/blond like my Dad had except he had more "silver". Here it what is funny. A couple of years ago they tried me on a chemo drug (didn't work for cancer but worked for inflammatory problems). I was on it for about 3 mos but got off it because it made me sick. NOW-after that I have an area at the upper back part of my head that comes in dark, dark, dark...perfectly round like a saucer. I NOW have to have pure bleach put on that one spot about every 8 weeks and then it matches my other hair perfectly.

I have had people come up to me and tell me what beautiful hair I have, too. I don't mind being a "white blond" at all.

Ran errands all morning and just realized I hadn't hit send before I left- duh....blond for sure here! xo Diana

Your eyes do look bluer! I've been a brunette my whole life and gray is not a shade that goes with my skin tones...so I'll keep going to the hairdressers:-D

Beautiful in any color hair -- you are looking fine! (I stopped coloring my hair before I retired -- and I've been retired forever -- so this former blonde has been silver-white for a looooong time.)

I love it, it's a beautiful natural shade of grey, very very flattering.

You rock!

I love your natural color! I wish mine would go grey so I wouldn't have to color it. It's such a mousy color, otherwise. Sometimes I think it's getting darker, instead of more grey. I have gotten to the age where I don't care if blondes have more fun! But, I've always been some shade of blonde, naturally and then with the help of Clairol! LOL!

Diane,
I actually like the "after" look better. My hair is dark so have to dye it, but not that often. I love your short hair. It must be so nice to have in that Florida weather. I want short hair, but my hair is curly and would frizz up if I cut it short haha.

Have a fun weekend.

Love,

The main thing is that you have hair! Sometimes people get less and less hair and I just have real thin hair. And have for the most part given up pulling the grey hairs out...Nothing like going au natural!
You look nice either way...but at least you don't have to worry bout coloring it anymore!

Love the baby photo. Oh so sweet!

I love your natural color! If mine would grow out like that, I'd do it! I hate have to color the roots, but I have a dirt dishwater blonde with Gray. Yuck!

Sweetie, you look wonderful both ways..but of course I'm going to go for the white hair. I went through the same thing you did except ..well, my hair was a very dark, next to black shade..so..it was not easy. It's a wonderful thing to be let off that "hair coloring" wagon.
I've enjoyed every minute.
Yep..you look GORGEOUS DAWLING!!

I actually like both, which goes to show that it was fine to let it alone and stop coloring it. In the latest photo your eyes really do pop more / and if men including your husband are falling all over you because of your hair you know it's all good! :)

You look great! I had a teacher at Uni many many years ago and she had grey short hair like yours and wore beautiful silver jewelry and she looked gorgeous! I am 48 and sick and tired of dyeing my hair!AriadnefromGreece!

You are so lucky to have such beautiful white hair. I tried to let my hair go natural a few years back, but it was really ugly (and it was not just me that thought so) and so I went back to coloring it. It is so freeing to not have to color. You look so happy in the after picture and I actually like it a lot better than the before.

Well, my friend you are just beautiful and I think letting it go natural is a good choice for you because it is such a gorgeous color. I think that man behind you in line was flirting. :)

I think the new look is the better of the two! The hair is shinier & brighter ... maybe it's the lighting in the blond photo, but your hair there doesn't look as shiny & silky! Good for you for saying goodbye to colour. I started colouring my hair when my family started teasing me about the grey. But I've had enough, and I said I was going to let it go completely grey. My daughter said "Not before I get married!!" ... not that she's had a proposal or anything, but I guess she's thinking of her future wedding photos ;) You look great Diane! Wendy x

I love natural! You look wonderful and can carry both colors so well! Enjoy the less upkeep and being natural!

Poppy said...

Diane,

Love the silver and totally agree that it brings out the blue in your pretty eyes! Also, the cut really suits you, too. Not many can wear short hair so easily.

I have been naturally gray for about 20 years now, but my daughter demands that I keep colouring my hair chestnut brown, declaring that the white wouldn't look right on me. Personally, I am TIRED of colouring it, as it has become finer the last few years and all those chemicals can't be good for it.

Enjoy the REAL you, she's pretty as can be!

Diane...I started graying very early, but I guess I shouldn't say gray...because my hair is a very pretty silver color and I really like it. I, too, have had strangers stop me to say how pretty they like my hair is. So with that say...yes, yes, yes...you have very pretty silver hair too and it looks great!!
