We’ve seen some huge Gopher Tortoises here in Florida.
Imagine our surprise to come across a baby on the Halpata Tastanaki Preserve trail last month.
Hubby had on his big size 12 hiking boots and almost stepped on him. Look how he tucked up in his shell.
We took a few photos and placed him on the other side of the trail in a safe place.
What fun to get this close to nature!
I’m joining Saturday’s critters HERE.

Hello Diane, what a cute baby turtle. I believe the Gopher Tortoise was having trouble in Florida, possible habitat loss? Great find and photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
Diane, I love that tortoise. So cute how he was all tucked into his shell. Good for your husband putting him out of harm's way. Hope you have a great weekend, Blessings, xoxo,Susie

Oh, how sweet, Dianae! I love baby tortoises...they're not quite so scary as those big ones! :)
Have a wonderful weekend further!

Oh, how sweet! I used to have a pet tortoise (Ben) when I was a child. I cried so much when Ben died.

Hope that you put him on the side of the road he was heading for! He's a perfect baby turtle. I'm sure that he has already had lots of adventures.
Sweet little guy. I hope he gets to where he needs to be. He must have been afraid of those big shoes.

I hope you're feeling much better now! I am way behind on blogging lately, it's just been so busy around here, but I did read about your fall and I was glad to read that nothing was broken! Take care of yourself and have a nice Sunday!
Cute little turtle!
Hi Diane,
Another nice hike! The best part of hiking is all the little surprises along the way! Nature sure does provide! The little turtle was very sweet!
Xo
Linda
Aww, how cute it that!!!
Oh- How cute is that! When our kids were little they picked a HUGE snapping turtle up and put him in our swimming pool when we lived in FL. Why they didn't lose an arm is beyond me. xo Diana
Oh my gosh, how sweet!
What a treat to find!
What a cute little baby. Wonderful pics!

I always feel like I'm on the hike with you. What a cute little guy you came across...my grandson would have loved this hike! XOXO
So tiny and cute.
Wow! He has a long dangerous road to become an adult.
He blended in pretty well with the trail--good eyes to notice him. He's so tiny!
How wonderful a find. I have a Box Turtle that I found as a hatchling. In 34 years on this land, the only one found as many are taken by Raccoon's when so little. One day Brooke shall be set free, but at going on about 7, she is still considered their fodder.
So cute, glad you spotted him before someone else may have stepped on him, I bet he feels safer where you put him :)
Awww, what a cutie, glad you saw him and could put him in a safer place.
What a cutie but just be careful as they can carry salmonella, I think.
What a little cutie!
Aweeee - adorable!!
BTW- Like the sea turtles --- wonder how many gophers make it to adulthood?
