Hike #73 The Downy Woodpecker

This little Downy Woodpecker stole the show on this hike!

He just kept jumping from one limb to another

but always in view of the camera.

So I stood still and kept shooting!

I saw lots of Warblers

and Bluebirds too.

I always say, Bluebirds of Happiness when I see them!

Do you know what this odd looking pod is in the tree? It’s almost as big as a golf ball and appears to be growing on a tree, not on a vine. I’ve searched online but can’t figure it out.

It was a warm day with hardly any wind…

perfect for the bikes I saw!

There are paved bike trails and mountain biking trails at the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway.

Do you think we should take our bikes and ride one day?

The woodpecker is so cute. I have said it before bird watching is one of my favorite things to do.

bike rides are kool, but when hiking you can see so much more and stop to enjoy easier. Love the woodpecker today.

my friend told me I never see birds because I never stand still and I talk to much. she said to see them you have to pretend you are a tree... the fruit looks kind of like a pomegranate to me

Hello, Looks like a nice trail to ride your bikes. I love the cute Downy Woodie and the warblers. Could some kind of nut be inside the pod, not sure.
Enjoy your day!

That little woodpecker is so cute and I am certain he doesn’t make too much of a racket like pileated ones do. You do such a good job of documenting your hikes. I wonder about the pods, too. Hope someone knows the answer. Remember when we used to be able to find similar images via groogle images? Wonder if that can still be done.

I wondered if it was type of gall growing on that tree.

No wonder he stole the show! I think he's stealing my heart right here. Fabulous photos, Diane!

I would ride a bicycle down that trail. :-)

That woodpecker was quite the 'ham' when he noticed your camera!! If you ride a bike, you might miss something along the trail!! Thanks, always, for taking us along!!

i would not have recognized that bluebird....do they pale in the winter? Our bluebirds are REALLY blue when they're here. Cute little woodpecker and I was thinking the same thing about you riding your bikes but then you would miss a lot....the faster you go the less you notice. Could those be persimmons or 'paw-paws'...I found those here also and I think they are a type of fruit but I can't remember what.

Those Woodpeckers are such attractive fellows, aren't they? You got some nice pictures of them on your hike. And those little yellow birds are precious. : )

That little downy was a treat. I won't see warblers here for another 4 months, but I will be looking for them when I visit your state next month! :)

Love that your woodpecker showed off for your camera! I think you're a bird whisperer and wish I could take lessons from you in that skill.

Merry Christmas to you and your hiking partner!!
